FG clarifies Tinubu’s absence from UN General Assembly

The Federal Government has clarified President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s absence from the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, saying Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead Nigeria’s delegation.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

According to Idris, Tinubu mandated Shettima to represent him at the General Assembly, where the Vice President will deliver Nigeria’s national statement and participate in high-level meetings and bilateral engagements with world leaders, international organisations and development partners.

He said Nigeria would therefore be fully represented throughout the high-level session, adding that Shettima would act with the full mandate of the President and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The minister said the Vice President’s engagements in New York would advance Nigeria’s priorities on peace and security, economic development, climate action, reform of the global financial architecture, sustainable development and international cooperation.

Idris said Tinubu was currently on annual leave, adding that the President’s decision to mandate the Vice President to lead the delegation was neither unusual nor a diminution of Nigeria’s diplomatic standing.

The minister also acknowledged recent public commentary by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a United States-based lobbying organisation concerning Tinubu’s absence from the General Assembly.

He said political opposition and public debate were legitimate features of democracy, but urged political actors to distinguish between verified information, political opinion and speculation when discussing matters concerning Nigeria’s international relations.

Idris reaffirmed Nigeria’s longstanding relationship with the United States, covering trade and investment, security cooperation, energy, democratic institutions, regional stability and people-to-people ties.

He said the relationship would continue through established diplomatic and governmental channels.

The minister urged Nigerians and the media to rely on verified information when discussing Nigeria’s international engagements.

He said Nigeria’s interests would continue to be advanced at the General Assembly and that efforts to strengthen the country’s relationships with international partners would continue.

10 Best Gift Card Trading Apps in Nigeria to Get High Rates

What Makes a Gift Card Trading App in Nigeria Worth Using?

Before jumping into the list, it helps to know what separates a good platform from an average one.

Rate transparency. A trustworthy app shows you the rate before you commit, not after you have already sent the card details.

Payout speed. Nobody wants to wait days for money that should reflect almost instantly.

Card variety. The more gift card brands an app supports, the less likely you are to be stuck holding a card you cannot sell.

Trust and support. Real customer support and a track record of paying users matter more than flashy ads.

None of these factors work in isolation. A platform can offer a great rate but take days to pay, or move fast, but only for a narrow list of card brands. Weighing all four together gives a clearer picture than focusing on rate alone. Keep these points in mind as you go through the list below.

1. Cardgoal

Cardgoal has built a reputation among Nigerians who want to sell gift cards in Nigeria without the usual back and forth. It stands out as the best app to sell gift cards in Nigeria for a few clear reasons.

Referral bonuses: Users earn extra when they bring friends onto the platform, turning every referral into real value.

Daily coins and rewards: Cardgoal rewards active users with daily coins, adding an extra incentive beyond the trade itself.

Trade rewards: Every successful trade adds up, giving consistent users more reasons to keep coming back.

For anyone comparing options, Cardgoal consistently comes up as a platform that combines fair rates with a rewards system that actually gives something back. The app is built for people who want to trade once and come back again, not a one-time exchange with no follow-up value. Between the referral bonuses, daily coins, and trade rewards, active users end up earning more than the rate alone would give them elsewhere. It is worth checking today’s rate on Cardgoal before settling on any other platform on this list.

2. Cardsoon

Cardsoon is another platform Nigerians use for gift card trading. It focuses on keeping the process simple, which appeals to users who want to get in, trade, and get out without extra steps. It supports a reasonable range of gift card brands, though users comparing rates across platforms should still confirm the current offer before selling. Some traders mention Cardsoon as a backup option when comparing rates before deciding where to trade. Along with gift card trading, Cardsoon allows bill payment and airtime purchases also.

3. Tbay

Tbay has carved out space among newer traders. It is often mentioned for being easy to navigate, especially for people trading gift cards for the first time. Tbay’s onboarding process tends to be quick, which helps first-time users get through their initial trade without much confusion. It is a reasonable starting point for anyone still getting familiar with how gift card trading apps work in general.

4. TradeCard

TradeCard has a following among users who trade frequently. Its interface is built around repeat transactions, which some traders prefer over apps designed for one-off sales. The app keeps a transaction history that regular sellers find useful for tracking past trades and rates over time. This makes it a common pick among people who treat gift card trading as a recurring source of extra income. TradeCard also provides a travel eSIM which can be funded directly from the app.

5. Cardtonic

Cardtonic is one of the established names in space. Its longevity in the market has made it a familiar option for people who have been trading gift cards for years, and that track record still counts for something when trust is a factor. Newer users sometimes pick Cardtonic simply because they have heard of it before, even without comparing rates first.

6. Prestmit

Prestmit is known for combining gift card trading with other financial services on one app. Users who want a platform that does more than just gift cards often mention this one. Beyond gift cards, some users turn to Prestmit for other exchange-related needs, which adds convenience for people who do not want a single-purpose app.

7. Gift Cards to Naira

As the name suggests, this platform is built around converting gift card value straight into naira. It appeals to users who want a no-frills exchange process without extra features competing for their attention. The straightforward focus means less time spent navigating menus and more time spent on the actual trade.

8. JaraGift

JaraGift is a gift card trading platform that helps Nigerians convert unused gift cards into Naira. It supports popular brands such as Amazon, Apple, Google Play, Steam, Sephora, Walmart, Nike, and eBay. Users can submit their cards, check the available rate, and receive their payout after verification. The platform also offers features such as transaction monitoring and two-factor authentication.

9. Vivakard

Vivakard is a gift card trading platform serving users in Nigeria and Ghana. It supports more than 50 gift card brands, including Amazon, Apple, Steam, Google Play, and other popular options. Users can select their card, check the current rate, and complete the trade through the platform. Vivakard also offers referral rewards and customer support for users who need assistance during a trade.

10. Timucard

Timucard is a gift card trading platform available in Nigeria and other African markets. It supports popular gift cards such as Amazon, Apple, Steam, Google Play, Xbox, PlayStation, Netflix, Nike, and Sephora. Users can upload their cards, complete the verification process, and receive payment after the trade is approved. The platform also provides real-time rates and supports multiple African markets.

Tips to Get the Best Rate When Selling Gift Cards in Nigeria

Choosing the right app is only half the equation. A few habits can help you get more value out of every trade.

Check the live rate on the app before you commit to anything. Rates shift often, so what you saw yesterday might not hold today.

Popular brands like Apple, Amazon, and Steam tend to attract better rates because demand for them stays high. Less common brands can take longer to sell or fetch lower offers.

Avoid trading during odd hours when support teams are less active. If something goes wrong with your transaction, you want help available quickly.

Keep your card details ready and accurate. Typos or blurry receipt images are one of the most common reasons trades get delayed.

Compare more than one platform before you settle. A quick check across two or three apps can reveal which one is currently offering the better deal for your specific card. This small habit can add up to real savings over time, especially for anyone who trades gift cards regularly rather than just once in a while.

Choosing the Right App Comes Down to What You Value Most

Every platform on this list offers a way to trade gift cards in Nigeria, but they are not all built the same. If steady rates, daily rewards, and a referral system that pays you back matter most, Cardgoal is worth trying first. Download the app, check today’s rate, and see how fast your first trade goes through.

City Boys Movement engages minister on Tinubu’s education reforms

The City Boys Movement has engaged the Minister of State for Education, Prof Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, on key education reforms being implemented by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The engagement was led by the movement’s North-West Zonal Coordinator, Contact and Mobilisation, Yusuf Gidado, during a high-level strategic meeting with the minister, where issues affecting students, families and underserved communities were discussed.

According to a statement issued after the meeting, discussions focused on improving access to tertiary education funding, strengthening basic education and expanding technical and vocational skills development for young Nigerians.

A major area of focus was the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), with Gidado and the minister discussing efforts to implement and expand the scheme to reduce financial barriers confronting students seeking higher education.

The meeting also considered measures to promote girl-child education and inclusion, particularly through targeted educational programmes and skills acquisition pathways for out-of-school girls and other marginalised young people across the North-West.

Participants further discussed curriculum and basic education reforms, including improvements in foundational learning, vocational skills acquisition and community-level educational outreach aimed at bringing educational opportunities closer to underserved communities.

Gidado said the engagement was part of efforts by the movement to obtain first-hand information on government initiatives and communicate such opportunities effectively to communities at the grassroots.

‘Effective grassroots engagement requires us to listen, learn, and directly connect our communities with verifiable government initiatives,’ he said, adding that the movement would continue to promote awareness of federal government education programmes across the North-West, with a commitment to translating national policy into measurable community awareness and grassroots development.

NSCDC names 24 arrested personnel, to fly flag at half-mast

Three more personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been arrested and detained in connection with the deaths of 37 artisanal miners.

The latest arrests bring to 24, the number of officials of the Corps now behind bars.

NSCDC Public Relations Officer Babawale Afolabi made this known in a statement yesterday, saying the Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, has ordered that the service flag of the Corps should be flown at half-mast for three days across various formations in the country in honour of the deceased.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier directed an independent probe of the incident, with assurance that those responsible for the deaths would account for their deeds.

Afolabi added that the Commandant General of the Corps also assured that due process, transparency and accountability would be strictly followed in the investigation of the arrested personnel.

He gave the names of detained personnel as Subaru Aniviye, John Chagwa, Obafemi Elvis, Stephen Tsado, Oluwadare Sunday. Annas Lamino,

Usman Ndamaka, Aminu Garba, Musa Marafa, Isah Sulaiman, Hassan Muhammad, Alhassan Muhammad, and Aliyu Sallah.

Others are Abdullahi Sale, Mohammed Sonfada, Mohammed Jiya, Sale Adamu, Haruna Muhammed, Baba Muhamma, Isah Sanusi, Liman Abubakar, Bala Usman and Ahmed Wushishi.

The statement by Afolabi reads in part: ‘In a swift and decisive joint operation conducted in conjunction with the Commandant General’s Special Investigation Squad (SIS), all officers and men of the Niger State Command linked to the gross misconduct have since, on the 17th September 2026, been taken into protective custody at the National Headquarters, Abuja, where they are undergoing rigorous interrogation and administrative disciplinary action, to make them available for the Presidential Independent Investigation Committee and other investigation panels for further investigation and possible prosecution.

ý’In solemn demonstration of our grief, institutional remorse, and absolute disapproval of this incident, the Commandant General has ordered that the NSCDC flag be flown at half-mast across all formations for three (3) days, starting from Sunday (yesterday) to signal our collective mourning and our unwavering resolve to purge the system of bad eggs.’

ýThe Corps spokesman quoted the Commandant General as saying that ‘as a Corps built on integrity, professionalism, discipline, and absolute respect for the rule of law, we do not condone unprofessional conduct, high-handedness, or any action that undermines the fundamental rights of citizens or the sacred trust reposed in us.’

Ambassador Ohakim, Ikpeme hail Falconets despite Colombia loss

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Poland, Chioma Ohakim, and the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) Acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, have hailed the Falconets for their courage after their 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup exit, a stoppage-time goal by Valerin Loboa handing Colombia victory in Sunday’s quarter-final in Lódz.

Ohakim consoled the downcast players and officials in the dressing room of the Stadion LKS Miejski.

‘The result was unfortunate because you played your hearts out. Everyone who saw the match can testify to your determination and desire to make it to the semi-finals. Nigerians in Poland are very proud of your efforts,’ she said.

Ikpeme said the girls were not disgraced, praising their energy and vibrancy.

‘You gave your best out there, and the NFF and every Nigerian watching saw that you held nothing back. You did not take the Colombians for granted and you certainly did not play with any form of complex.

‘It is a game you could have won easily if you had been able to convert some of the numerous chances that you created, but that is sport. Please don’t be disoriented by the result.’

The two-time runners-up dominated set-pieces and created the better chances in a goalless first half. Portugal-based forward Janet Akekoromowei rattled the crossbar from the edge of the box in the 19th minute, and defender Tumininu Adeshina’s effort was tipped over by goalkeeper Luisa Agudelo in the 38th.

Nigeria continued to push after the break, with Tosin Rafiu and Akekoromowei testing Agudelo, but lacked a clinical edge. Coach Moses Aduku introduced Winner Onajite David for Queen Joseph and Precious Oscar for Favour Nkwocha.

The game turned in the 77th minute, when Kafayat Mafisere was shown a straight red card for a foul on Samantha Rodriguez. Loboa then latched onto a through ball in the second minute of added time. Captain and goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma blocked her first effort, but Loboa followed up to score from the rebound and send Colombia into the last four.

Troops rescue 23 kidnapped victims, arrest four suspects in Sokoto

Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 23 kidnapped civilians and arrested four suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group in separate operations across Sokoto State.

The operations, conducted on Sunday, also resulted in the foiling of attempted terrorist attacks in Wurno, Sabon Birni and Isa Local Government Areas.

The Media Information Officer of the JTF North-West, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.

Danja said troops responded to an attack on Sabon Gari in Wurno LGA after terrorists invaded the community and opened sporadic fire, forcing residents to flee.

According to him, the troops engaged the attackers and forced them to retreat, while six kidnapped victims were rescued.

‘During the operation, troops rescued six kidnapped victims. One civilian who sustained a gunshot wound during the attack was evacuated to a medical facility for treatment,’ he said.

He said troops also acted on intelligence about an attempted terrorist movement along the Sabon Birni-Takatsaba Road around Chabe Biyu in Sabon Birni LGA.

Danja said the troops laid an ambush along the terrorists’ route and engaged them upon sighting them, forcing them to flee.

‘Troops engaged the terrorists with firepower on sighting, forcing them to flee in disarray,’ he stated.

In Isa LGA, the spokesman said troops responded to a distress call over terrorist activities along the Isa-Kwanar Isa-Shinkafi Road.

He said the troops engaged the terrorists, who subsequently withdrew, adding that a search of the area led to the rescue of 17 kidnapped civilians.

‘One of the rescued victims, who sustained a fracture, was immediately evacuated to the General Hospital, Isa, for medical attention,’ Danja added.

Meanwhile, four suspected Lakurawa members were arrested in Illela LGA following intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorists allegedly driving rustled cattle from Sarma Village towards Illela.

Danja said troops established a snap checkpoint along the route, leading to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of six cows.

He said the suspects and recovered livestock were in military custody for further investigation, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the group.

The military spokesman said the operations demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led and proactive operations by Sector 2 OPFY in disrupting terrorist activities, rescuing kidnapped civilians and restricting the movement of terrorists.

He said the troops remained committed to sustaining pressure on terrorist elements and protecting communities across their area of responsibility.

Tinubu warns against police capture by political interests ahead of 2027

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has warned that the Nigeria Police Force must not become an instrument of any political interest as Nigeria heads into the 2027 general election, insisting the force belongs to the nation, not to any political actor.

He gave the charge at the sixth annual Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO) in Owerri, themed: ‘Developing a Nigeria Police roadmap for effective management of election security.’

Representing the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, Tinubu said police impartiality was fundamental to public trust and the credibility of Nigeria’s democracy.

‘The police must be seen not as an instrument of any political interest, but as a national institution serving the Nigerian people and protecting the constitutional order,’ Tinubu said.

He said every Nigerian, regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, religion, social status or geographical location, must feel protected by the police, and charged the force to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and impartiality in its electoral duties.

He promised full support for the Police ahead of the general election, saying the Federal Government would continue to support measures to enhance the force’s operational capacity, professionalism, welfare and institutional effectiveness.

According to the President, next year’s election demanded intelligence-led operations and close coordination among security and electoral stakeholders.

‘The Federal Government expects the Nigeria Police Force to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and impartiality in the discharge of its electoral responsibilities,’ Tinubu said.

He commended Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for efforts to reposition the force, while acknowledging the sacrifices of officers battling kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, cultism and armed robbery across the country.

Also speaking at the event, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, explained that his administration’s decision to host the retreat for a third time and to continue committing state resources to security, despite policing being constitutionally a federal responsibility, was shaped by the trauma of April 5, 2021, when armed men attacked the Imo State Police Command Headquarters and the Owerri Custodial Centre, forcibly releasing 1,844 inmates.

‘Security ceases to be an abstract subject the moment fear begins to alter the ordinary rhythm of life, and the institutions expected to protect society are themselves under attack,’ Uzodimma said, adding that his administration could not treat insecurity as ‘somebody else’s assignment.’

He said prolonged insecurity carries a high economic cost, shrinking economic activity, driving businesses to shut down and pushing residents to relocate, which is why his administration has tied its security spending to its wider development agenda.

In his welcome address, IGP Disu unveiled a six-point agenda to guide police deployment for Nigeria’s 2027 general election, covering early intelligence gathering, rigorous training, joint command with sister agencies, rapid communication, partnership with the public and strict political neutrality.

Under the roadmap, the IGP directed that flashpoints and criminal networks be mapped immediately, with credible intelligence reaching commands in time for action. He warned that ‘a polling unit where these citizens feel unsafe is a polling unit where the election has already failed,’ referring to women, the elderly and persons with disabilities.

Officers would be trained in crowd management, the protection of electoral materials and personnel, and human-rights-compliant policing, while joint exercises with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other agencies would establish clear lines of command before incidents occur.

Disu also raised concerns about election disinformation, directing that fake results, forged police statements and inflammatory videos be monitored and countered swiftly, with those who incite violence online facing prosecution.

Citing lessons from the recent Osun State governorship election, which he described as largely peaceful despite isolated cases of voter intimidation and inducement, Disu ordered a review of the Force’s intelligence, response times and training gaps.

He warned that any officer who takes sides, harasses voters or colludes with political actors during the elections would be investigated and punished, and directed all Commissioners of Police to publish official contact numbers for public access.

Disu tasked the retreat with producing a practical framework for training, deployment and command structure, insisting it must not become ‘another document on a shelf,’ and set a deadline of October 12 for a finished roadmap and an election-security taskforce.

He closed his address with a call-and-response charge to officers, urging them to be ‘Neutral. Prepared. Present. Accountable’ as they return to their commands.

On the Force’s operational scorecard, Disu said police have arrested 1,643 suspects and rescued 1,066 kidnap victims since his assumption of office in February, giving a breakdown of the eight-month tally: 251 terrorists and suspected bandits, 343 murder suspects, 566 armed robbery suspects and 483 suspected cultists arrested, alongside the recovery of 947 firearms and more than 22,000 rounds of ammunition.

He acknowledged the figures offered little comfort to Nigerians still living under the threat of kidnapping, banditry, terrorism and communal violence. ‘Numbers do not console a grieving family. We will not slow down on these threats because an election is coming. We will fight them and secure the elections at the same time,’ he said.

The IG paid tribute to officers who died in the line of duty and pledged improved welfare for their families and serving personnel, noting the retreat coincided with the International Day of Peace, marked globally under the theme ‘Invest in Peace -For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day.’

The opening ceremony at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre, Owerri, was attended by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), representing President Bola Tinubu; Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma; a representative of the Senate President; military and security chiefs; and captains of industry.

Organised annually by Lenders Consult in collaboration with the Force Headquarters and other sponsors, CARSPO provides a platform for police management and security stakeholders to chart a way forward for effective and accountable policing. Disu thanked Uzodimma for hosting the sixth edition of the retreat, commended Lenders Consult Nigeria Limited for its support, and praised Tinubu for backing the Force with improved welfare, equipment, recruitment and funding.

In their goodwill messages, former Inspectors General of Police (IGPs) Mike Okiro (rtd) and Usman Alkali Baba (rtd), along with the Police Service Commission (PSC), tasked the force with developing a standing roadmap covering issues ranging from criminal sponsorship of banditry to artificial intelligence- generated disinformation ahead of the general election.

Okiro said the country’ s security architecture was under severe strain, adding that unresolved allegations linking political, military, traditional and business interests to the funding of banditry and kidnapping had eroded public trust and complicated intelligence gathering.

He urged the retreat to confront the issue candidly, proposing that any roadmap should rest on three pillars: inter- agency synergy under a unified, police- led command structure involving the Army, the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

He warned that police officers must resist political inducement, and that welfare and accountability for deployed personnel must take priority.

He called for closer international intelligence- sharing with INTERPOL and foreign counterparts to counter cross- border arms flows and offshore disinformation campaigns, and warned officers to prepare for fake news, AI- generated deepfakes, drone use by non- state actors, attacks on INEC facilities and attempts to kidnap candidates. He urged clear procedures for arrest, evidence preservation and prompt prosecution of electoral offenders.

Baba drew on his experience overseeing the 2023 general elections, which involved more than 176, 176,000 polling units and 93 million registered voters, and described it as one of the most complex security operations in recent history.

He attributed that outcome to planning, partnership through the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, and professionalism.

The retired police chief said the approach reduced ballot-box snatching and disruption compared with earlier elections, though attacks on INEC facilities, isolated violence, and misinformation persisted.

Baba called for a standing roadmap that institutionalises lessons from the 2019 and 2023 general elections and off-cycle polls in Kogi, Imo, Edo, Ondo, and Osun states, and that embraces intelligence-led, data-driven deployment.

He identified vote-buying, drone use, and AI-generated fake news as emerging threats, and named disinformation on WhatsApp, hacking of INEC and party databases, and election-themed financial scams as the main cybercrime risks. He said the police would work with INEC, telecommunications operators, and social media platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp, and TikTok, to take down false content, and called for the protection of women, persons with disabilities, youths, and ad hoc INEC staff.

Representing the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Commissioner (PSC) Hashim Agungun (rtd) and DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd) commended Disu for reforms, including intelligence-led and technology-driven policing, strengthened internal accountability, community engagement, and the establishment of a Violent Crime Response Unit. He said the force had prioritised officer welfare through housing, healthcare, and prompt payment of insurance benefits, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, and had intensified training on the Electoral Act and rules of engagement for officers on election duty.

Lakanu cited the recent Osun State governorship election as an example of the force’s improved planning, including the strategic deployment of senior officers to protect voters, INEC personnel and electoral materials. He said the commission, which is constitutionally responsible for the recruitment, promotion and discipline of police personnel other than the Inspector-General, remained committed to supporting the force’s professionalism and public accountability.

Speakers urged that the retreat’s outcome translate into a practical, costed and time-bound roadmap owned by police commands, rather than end as a ‘talk shop,’ ahead of the 2027 polls.

AGF urges court to dismiss El-rufai’s N1b suit

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) has urged a Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a N10billion fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-rufai.

The AGF, in a counter affidavit, argued among others, that El-rufai’s suit is lacking in merit as there are no legal and evidential justifications to support all claims and reliefs he is seeking.

Fagbemi also argued that the suit constitutes an abuse of court processes because the ex-governor has two pending suits on same subject matter before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He denied being privy to the facts of the case, contending that the first and second respondents – the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) – acted within their statutory functions.

The AGF stated that the items seized from the El-rufai’s house by the ICPC and IGP were seized to enable them to conclude investigation on the ex-governor.

El-rufai, in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/345/2026 wants the court to, among others, declare that the invasion and search of his residence at House 12, Mambilla Street, Aso Drive, Abuja, on February 19 at about 2pm by the and ICPC and the IGP amounts to a gross violation of his fundamental rights.

He equally wants an order directing the ICPC and IGP to forthwith retum all items seized from his premises during the search, together with a detailed inventory.

The ex-governor is also praying for an order awarding him N1billion as general, exemplary, and aggravated damages.

The ICPC and the IGP have equally filed separate counter affidavits ik which they praying the court to dismiss the suit for lacking in merit.

In its counter affidavit, the ICPC said it received a petition against El-Rufai and acting on the petition by commencing an investigation, leading to the search at his residence.

It argued that its operatives acted under a valid search warrant issued on February 18 and executed on February 19 between 1:37pm and 3:56pm at 12 Mambilla Street, Asokoro, Abuja.

The states that its officials were accompanied by men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), adding that the exercise was witnessed by El-Rufai’s wife, Hadiza and his son, Mohammed.

The IGP argued,

in a counter affidavit, that that the police has the statutory power to detect, arrest, investigate and prosecute offenders.

The police further argued that the search carried out at El-Rufai’s residence was executed pursuant to a search warrant issued by a competent court of law.

It disagreed with the ex-governor that that search warrant was invalid, insisting that it was a genuine court order.

It said that its officers who carried out the operation, complied with all applicable legal procedures in the execution of the search warrant.

According to the police, the applicant is trying to use the honourable court to shield himself from the security investigation and prosecution in the court of law.

When the case was called on Monday, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted a motion by the AGF, which was moved by Maimuna Lami-Shiru, the Director, Civil Litigation at the Federal Ministry of Justice.

In the motion, the AGF sought an extension of time to deem his counter affidavit properly filed and served.

Justice Abdulmalik has adjourned till October 27 for hearing.

Earlier, the judge granted the request by former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji for the release of his international passport to enable him embark on a foreign medical trip.

Nnaji, who is facing a six-count criminal charge before the court, had his international passport confiscated as part of the conditions attached to the bail earlier granted him.

His lawyer, Ogwu Onoja (SAN) had while moving an application he filed for the ex-minister, said his client requires the passport to enable him travel abroad for medical treatment.

Justice Abdulmalik after granting the application, adjourned till October 26 for trial.

Nnaji was arraigned before the court on July 13 on a charge, marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/389/2026, filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).

He is accused, among others, of engaging in corruption, fraud, confering corrupt advantage upon himself, giving false information by allegedly making and presenting false certificate of national service, university degree certificate.

Onoh urges APC leadership to clarify Wike’s political alignment

Former Southeast spokesman for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Denge Josef Onoh, has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership to clarify the political status and activities of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement made available to journalists in Abuja, Onoh said the emergence of the Rainbow Coalition and its political activities required clear direction from the President and the APC leadership.

He said the coalition should clearly define its relationship with the ruling party, particularly as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

According to Onoh, the coalition’s reported plans to support candidates for governorship, Senate and House of Representatives seats could have implications for the political configuration of the APC and the wider opposition.

He said the development was significant because of Wike’s political experience and his current position as a member of the Federal Executive Council.

Onoh also drew parallels between Wike’s current political activities and the political strategies President Tinubu employed between 2010 and 2015, when political structures outside the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) contributed to the realignment that eventually produced the APC.

He said Nigerian politics was driven largely by interests and long-term calculations, arguing that political developments ahead of 2027 could also shape alliances beyond the election.

Onoh said the possibility of further political realignments ahead of 2031 made it necessary for the APC to clearly define the roles of political groups and individuals associated with the party and the Federal Government.

He also expressed support for the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, on maintaining the cohesion of the APC and its structures.

Onoh said the APC had sufficient structures and political machinery to pursue its electoral objectives without relying on parallel arrangements.

He urged President Tinubu and the APC National Working Committee to engage Wike on his political alignment and clarify the relationship between his political structures and the ruling party.

According to him, such clarification would help strengthen party cohesion and provide greater certainty as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gather momentum.

With just two weeks left to the finale, the competition is getting intense.

Ten housemates remain in the house, all battling for immunity, privileges and ultimately, the grand prize.

As Head of House, Keivo will most likely enjoy immunity from eviction this week, access to the luxury HOH loft, and other perks attached to the title.
