MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) located east of Mindanao has entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Sunday morning, the state weather bureau said.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in an advisory, the LPA entered PAR around 8 a.m.
It was last located 845 kilometers (km) east of Northeastern Mindanao.
“[The LPA] now has a “high” chance to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours,” said Pagasa.
Once it develops into a tropical depression, the weather system will be assigned the local name “Verbena.”
Should it continue in its forecast track, the storm is expected to mostly affect the majority of Visayas and Southern Luzon. /das
