AFFA, UEFA hols seminar on protection of children’s rights in football [PHOTOS]

A seminar on “Protection of Children’s Rights in Football” has been held for the players of Azerbaijan’s U-15 national team, Azernews reports.

The event was co-organized by the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA)

The seminar, which took place at the National Teams’ Training Center, was to ensure the safety of children and adolescents in the football environment, prevent cases of violence and abuse, and promote principles of ethical behavior and inclusivity.

The seminar was led by the project’s mentor and project-based learning expert, Ofeliya Gafarova.

She conducted interactive discussions with the players on the protection of children’s rights, a safe sports environment, respect within the team, and responsible behavior.

The event was organized using practical and interactive methods. Participants explored the topic more deeply through situational tasks, group discussions, game-based activities, and an online quiz.

Formed in 1992, the Azerbaijani Association of Football Federations (AFFA) is the governing body of football in Azerbaijan.

The Association is responsible for overseeing all aspects of amateur and professional games in its territory.

It runs numerous competitions, the most famous of which is the Azerbaijan Cup. AFFA is a member of both UEFA and FIFA.

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is one of the six continental governing bodies responsible for overseeing association football.

UEFA was formally established on 15 June 1954 in Basel, Switzerland, following discussions among the football associations of Italy, France, and Belgium.

European teams have enjoyed significant success on the global stage: five UEFA nations, including Germany, Italy, France, England, and Spain, have collectively secured 12 of the 22 FIFA World Cup titles.

These same countries are also home to the continent’s major football leagues, commonly referred to as “Europe’s Big Five”: Spain’s La Liga, England’s Premier League, Germany’s Bundesliga, Italy’s Serie A, and France’s Ligue 1.

New book presented within Kelaghayi Days project [PHOTOS]

The presentation of Vagif Osmanli’s book “Sazin, sözn k?lagayli Glls” has been held within the framework of the “Kelaghayi Days – 2025” project, organized by the Mirvarid Dilbazi Poetry Assembly Public Union and the Ganja City Centralized Library System, Azernews reports.

The event began with a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs.

Speaking at the event, the chairperson of the Mirvarid Dilbazi Poetry Assembly Public Union, poet and publicist Gullu Eldar Tomarli, provided detailed insight into the purpose and content of the gathering.

Vice-President of the Javad Khan History and Culture Foundation, Muzadil Hasanov, stressed the importance of preserving, promoting, and passing on national and spiritual values to future generations:

“For years, the National Pasture Festival we have organized has been a service to our cultural heritage, a platform where our customs and traditions are displayed. It is important that we remain united and supportive of each other on this path,” he said.

Fakhri Akifoglu, head of the AF Carpet House, presented a valuable exhibit to the Kelaghayi Home Museum.

Kelaghayi designer Elnara Akhundova, poets Malak Ismayil and Seadet Qarib, as well as martyr Rashad Alakbarov’s mother, Naila Alakbarova, also spoke about the significance of the book.

Note that November 26 is celebrated as Kelaghayi Day in Azerbaijan. In connection with this occasion, a Kelaghayi Festival will be held at the Rashid Behbudov State Song Theater.

For Azerbaijani women, the traditional silk headscarf known as kelaghayi has long been an essential part of their wardrobe.

More than just a fashion item, kelaghayi offers protection from the elements, keeping cool in summer and warm in winter thanks to the natural properties of silk.

Kelaghayis come in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and styles, each adding a unique flair to the wearer’s look. The most iconic motif used in kelaghayi design is the buta, a flame-shaped, twisted teardrop that symbolizes divine fire, a sacred element in Azerbaijan since ancient times. The scarf’s borders and sometimes the central area (known as khoncha) are adorned with geometric and plant-based (nabati) patterns.

Each region in Azerbaijan has its own distinctive style of kelaghayi. For example, the Shah buta, buta, and khirda buta designs are typical of kelaghayis from Shaki and Basgal.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the kelaghayi holds deep cultural significance. There are many rich traditions tied to this exquisite headscarf.

Young unmarried girls typically wore bright-colored kelaghayis shades like yellow, pink, gold, or purple, while older women favored darker tones.

As part of engagement customs, once a girl agreed to a proposal, a woman from the groom’s family would present her with jewelry wrapped in a red kelaghayi.

During the henna night of a wedding, the bride’s head was covered with a kelaghayi before henna was applied to her hands and feet. Grooms and their closest friends also wore kelaghayis around their necks and tied them to the wedding car’s mirror as part of the celebration.

One of the most cherished wedding traditions involved gifting trays brought by women attending the ceremony, often included a kelaghayi, considered the most precious item. In some regions, this custom still lives on.

Azerbaijan has been renowned as a hub of kelaghayi production for centuries. Cities like Tabriz, Ganja, Shamakhi, Shaki, and Nakhchivan were once famed for producing high-quality silk scarves.

Among them, Basgal, a picturesque village near Shamakhi remains the most celebrated. It is home to the Silk Center and the Kelaghayi Museum, where visitors can explore the history and craftsmanship behind this traditional art form.

Shaki, another major center, was known as the heart of Azerbaijan’s silk industry and once housed the world’s largest silk factory in the 19th century.

Even today, Basgal continues to produce the most valuable kelaghayis, typically ranging from six to seven exclusive designs.

The creation of a kelaghayi is a highly intricate process, requiring the collaboration of skilled artisans, including tailors, fabric dyers, pattern designers, and ornament artists. Weighing just 125 grams, each scarf takes about two days to dye and decorate.

In modern times, the ancient kelaghayi has found new life in the global fashion scene.

Designers around the world draw inspiration from its vibrant patterns and cultural symbolism. Visitors can admire these stunning silk scarves not only at the Kelaghayi Museum in Basgal but also in national museums across Azerbaijan.

Mercedes plans new models in Korea by 2027

Mercedes-Benz plans to launch at least 40 new models in South Korea by 2027, marking the automaker’s most ambitious product roadmap in the country. The move highlights Mercedes’ deepening collaboration with Korean component suppliers, including Samsung and LG, Azernews reports, citing Korean media.

To further strengthen ties across Asia, Mercedes will open a procurement hub in South Korea on January 1, 2026.

‘Tech-savvy Korean Mercedes customers and fans truly appreciate both sides of the Mercedes brand: innovation and technology,’ said Mercedes-Benz Chairman Ola Kallenius during a press conference on Friday in Incheon.

‘You will not find a Mercedes anywhere in the world without a piece of Korea in it.’

During the conference, Mercedes unveiled four strategic models, including the latest all-electric GLC, the CLA, and two concept cars: the AMG GT XX and the Vision V.

The all-new electric GLC, the first model built on Mercedes’ dedicated EV architecture, is positioned to set a new benchmark in the midsize segment. The CLA was described as the most intelligent, emotionally resonant, efficient, and versatile model in Mercedes’ history, featuring the company’s in-house operating system with generative AI, designed to redefine the driver-vehicle experience. Both the GLC and CLA will be available in all-electric and hybrid variants and are expected on Korean roads in 2026.

The Concept AMG GT XX previews Mercedes’ upcoming four-door high-performance EVs built on the AMG electric architecture. The prototype has already demonstrated its capabilities by setting 25 performance records, including covering 5,479 kilometers (3,404 miles) in a single 24-hour run last August.

The Vision V, a chauffeur-driven limousine show car, is designed for clients seeking a private-lounge experience on wheels.

Kallenius also emphasized Mercedes’ commitment to strengthening partnerships with Korean companies, meeting with Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong and LG Energy Solution executives. Discussions included potential collaborations in battery supply and next-generation EV technology.

‘I had a very productive meeting with our valued partners at LG and Samsung,’ Kallenius said. ‘We explored how to push technological boundaries and create a leap forward into the future.’

‘Alongside global champions like Samsung and LG, we work with dozens of other partners in Korea, a market that has now reached a high level of maturity.’

Industry analysts note that Mercedes’ Korea-focused strategy reflects a broader trend among premium automakers: leveraging local tech expertise not just for component supply but also for AI-driven in-car experiences, EV innovation, and next-generation battery technology, signaling that South Korea is becoming a key hub for the future of mobility.

Baidu to launch Kunlun M100 AI chip in 2026

Chinese technology company Baidu plans to launch its next-generation Kunlun M100 artificial intelligence chip in 2026, Azernews reports.

The Kunlun M100 is expected to deliver significantly optimized performance compared to previous models.

Additionally, Baidu intends to release an even more powerful M300 training and data-output chip in 2027, further strengthening its AI hardware portfolio.

Baidu’s Kunlun chips are already widely used in China across sectors such as internet finance, energy, transportation, and education.

In August, Baidu’s AI-powered servers featuring Kunlun chips won a major tender from the mobile operator China Mobile, marking a key milestone for the adoption of Chinese AI chips in large-scale infrastructure projects, according to reports.

Baidu began developing its own chips in 2011, and in 2021 it established a specialized subsidiary, Kunlunxin, to focus exclusively on AI chip research and production.

Industry analysts suggest that Baidu’s Kunlun chips could position the company as a strategic competitor in the global AI chip market, which has been traditionally dominated by U.S. and European manufacturers. This reflects China’s broader push for technological self-reliance in critical high-tech sectors.
