‘Today Azerbaijan holds a leading position in the region with 100% broadband internet coverage. The country also ranks among the frontrunners in the field of digital identity,’ President Ilham Aliyev stated in his address to participants of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) World Telecommunication Development Conference, Azernews reports.

The head of state highlighted that the biometric digital signature system ‘SIMA’ has already been adopted by 3.6 million users and integrated into more than 80 state information systems. ‘It is no coincidence that Azerbaijan has been placed in the highest category group of the United Nations E-Government Development Index. Our goal is to enter the top 40 countries in this index within the next five years,’ President Ilham Aliyev added.

A mine incident occurred on November 17, 2025, in the Bala Jafarli village of the Gazakh region, near the border with Armenia, Azernews reports, citing the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA).

The agency reported that its employee, Imamverdiyev Samir Mubariz oglu, born in 1988, was carrying out official duties when an anti-personnel mine exploded.

“As a result of the incident, the injured employee’s right leg was amputated at the ankle,” the report stated.

Imamverdiyev was evacuated to the central hospital of the district. His condition is satisfactory, and his life is not in danger.

Turkiye’s Ministry of National Defense has extended its congratulations to Azerbaijan on the occasion of November 17 – National Revival Day, Azernews reports.

According to a post shared on the ministry’s official social media account, the message stated:

*”We congratulate our Azerbaijani brothers, who 37 years ago advanced toward independence with the spirit of national revival and achieved great victories in Garabagh, on National Revival Day. We reaffirm that, under the motto ‘One Nation, Two States,’ we will always stand united and together.”*

Gaetano Donizetti’s opera “The Elixir of Love” (L’elisir d’amore) has been showcased at Baku Music Academy’s Opera Studio, Azernews reports.

“L’elisir d’amore” is a comic opera in two acts by Gaetano Donizetti with a libretto by Felice Romani, based on a French libretto by Eugène Scribe, based on Daniel Auber’s “The Love Potion” (1831). The opera premiered under its original Italian title, “L’elisir d’amore,” on May 12, 1832, at the Teatro della Cannobiana in Milan.

Donizetti later wrote two slightly revised versions. “L’elisir d’amore” is one of Donizetti’s most popular and widely performed operas, blending humor with dramatic elements.

The opera tells the story of a simple, sincere young man, Nemorino, who falls in love with the beautiful and wayward Adina. To win her heart, Nemorino acquires a “magic love potion,” which turns out to be ordinary wine. Comic misunderstandings, love, jealousy, and cunning-all intertwine in a lively and touching story full of music, humor, and human warmth.

The production was directed by Ukrainian director Mykola Tretyak and staged by Honored Artist of Azerbaijan Hafiz Guliyev.

The opera was presented in Baku by the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, under the artistic direction of People’s Artist Fakhraddin Karimov.

The roles were performed by Honored Artist Farid Aliyev as Nemorino, and Aydan Guliyeva, who debuted as Adina, as well as Honored Artist Anton Fershtandt (Belcore), People’s Artist Akram Poladov (Dulcamara) and soloist Nina Makarova (Giannetta).

The professional performance of the choir, directed by Honored Artist Sevil Hajiyeva, left the audience in awe.

The performance revealed the full grandeur and charm of the classical Italian operatic tradition, warmly received by the listeners.

A civilian was injured in a landmine explosion in Azerbaijan’s Aghdara district, Azernews reports, citing a joint statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor General’s Office, and the Mine Action Agency of Azerbaijan (ANAMA).

The incident occurred on November 16, 2025, in the liberated Sirkhavand village. According to official information, 35-year-old Natiq Namig oglu Aliyev, a resident of Barda district, sustained leg injuries after stepping on an anti-personnel landmine in an area that had not yet been cleared of mines.

He was promptly transferred to the Barda Diagnostic Center for medical treatment, and his condition is being monitored.

The Aghdara District Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the incident.

Authorities once again warned citizens to strictly follow safety protocols, heed mine hazard signs, and avoid entering potentially contaminated or unfamiliar areas. ANAMA and security agencies emphasized that entering uncleared territories remains extremely dangerous.

Active participation of young people and their digital literacy are vital for achieving sustainable development goals in Azerbaijan, said Hande Harmanci, Head of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) office in Azerbaijan, during a session held in Baku as part of Global Youth Day, Azernews reports.

Harmanci highlighted the importance of the 2026-2030 Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework between Azerbaijan and the United Nations, noting that the framework places special emphasis on innovation, decent work, and people-centered digital services. ‘The 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted in 2015 are not mere slogans. They serve as a roadmap for eradicating poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring a prosperous life for all. These goals can only be achieved with the active engagement of young people,’ she said.

She emphasized that digital transformation plays a central role in unlocking youth potential. In this regard, the UN supports programs in Azerbaijan aimed at increasing digital equity and accessibility of services. ‘The UN brings together government, private sector, universities, and youth organizations to build sustainable partnerships. We focus particularly on villages and underserved regions. Our goal is to ensure equal access to digital services, promote innovation, and create decent work opportunities,’ Harmanci added.

‘Relations between Azerbaijan and the Central Asian states are of a special nature,’ President Ilham Aliyev stated during the 7th Consultative Meeting of Heads of State from Central Asia in Tashkent, Azernews reports.

‘We are united by centuries of shared history, spiritual and cultural heritage, brotherhood, friendship, and solidarity. We have not only preserved these ties but also given them new momentum, characterized by strategic partnership. We are actively expanding our cooperation in all directions,’ the head of state added.
