President Christodoulides participates in European Political Community Summit in Yerevan

Cyprus President, Nikos Christodoulides, participates on Monday in the 2026 European Political Community (EPC) Summit to be held in Yerevan, Armenia.

A press release issued by the Presidency said that Christodoulides will have a coordinating role, in a plenary debate of the EPC on European security, with the participation of the leaders of Britain, France, Italy and the President of the European Commission.

This is the first time that Cyprus has taken on a special role in a plenary of an EPC Summit. In addition to the introductory speech, President Christodoulides will make the closing remarks, it is noted.

Defence and security issues are key priorities of the Cyprus EU Presidency with actions aimed at strengthening the EU’s deterrent capacity, the press release added.

Cyprus President will also participate in a thematic discussion on European connectivity and economic security, as well as in separate multilateral meetings on Moldova and on the fight against drugs in Europe.

On the sidelines of the Summit, President Christodoulides will hold bilateral meetings with heads of state and government as well as heads of international organisations.

He is accompanied in Yerevan by Deputy Government Spokesperson, Yiannis Antoniou, Deputy Director of his Diplomatic Office, Nektarios Soteriou, and other officials.

President in Athens for DEFEA conference, meetings with Commissioner Kubilius-Dendias

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides departed from Yerevan to Athens for a defense industry conference and meetings. In Yerevan he participated in the European Political Community Summit.

A press release from the Presidency says that the President will address on Tuesday morning the DEFEA (Defence Exhibition Athens) Defense Industry Conference.

On the sidelines of the Conference, President Christodoulides will have a bilateral meeting with the Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias and with the European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius with whom he will discuss Cyprus EU Presidency actions on defense matters.

In Athens, President Christodoulides will be accompanied by the Minister of Defense Vassilis Palmas, Deputy Government Spokesperson Yiannis Antoniou and other officials.

Cypriot Pelendritou wins silver medal in Paris Para Swimming World Series

Cyprus Paralympic swimmer Karolina Pelendritou secured on Saturday the silver medal in the 100m. breaststroke, in 2026 Para Swimming World Series in Paris.

She set a better record compared to her race a year ago in a similar race, at IDM Berlin, a press release says.

Three-time gold medalist Paralympic champion finished in the final with a time of 1:23.28, while she qualified with 1:23.04.

Last year, in Berlin, she participated only in the 100m. breaststroke qualifying, finishing in 1:24.06.

Russian Daria Lukianenko won the gold medal and Ali Diehl from Canada won bronze.

Later on Sunday Pelendritou will participate in the 50m. freestyle.

Omonoia Nicosia secures 22nd Cyprus Football League title

Omonoia Nicosia secured the 22nd league title in their history on Saturday evening, beating Aris by 3-0 at the GSP Stadium to win the Cyprus League by Stoiximan race with four match days to spare.

The result confirmed the club’s return to the top place in Cypriot football after five years.

Celebrations errupted after the final whistle and later continued at the club’s headquarters on Papanikoli Street, Nicosia, where fans gathered to welcome the team.

‘I’m very happy for the Omonoia supporters. We waited five years and achieved this in a very convincing way,’ club president Stavros Papastavrou said.

‘Our next big target is the Champions League league phase. It won’t be easy, but we’ll do our best’, he added.

Head coach Henning Berg said the title was the result of a collective effort. ‘It was a team job from everyone, staff and players. We’re happy to be champions; we’ll look at Europe later.’

He added that ‘the president laid the foundations, while Simos Tarapoulouzis is doing an excellent job, many people contribute every day.’

Omonoia Nicosia will represent Cyprus in the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League.

President travels to Yerevan for European Political Community Summit
