Obinim Warns Florence To Stop Discussing Their Marriage

Founder of the International God’s Way Church (IGWC), Bishop Daniel Obinim, has cautioned his estranged wife, gospel singer Florence Obinim, against discussing their marriage during media interviews.

The warning follows Florence Obinim’s recent appearance on Peace FM, where she spoke about their relationship while promoting her new song.

In a viral TikTok video shared on June 26, 2026, Bishop Obinim urged his wife to focus on her music instead of their marital issues.

‘When you go for an interview and you’re asked about your marriage, say that’s not your reason for being there. Stop talking,’ he said.

According to the preacher, Florence’s comments, even if they are not insulting, expose him to public criticism.

‘You are pushing me. If you continue, I will also talk, and it will not be good for you,’ he warned.

He further cautioned that continuing to discuss their marital issues publicly could create division within their family.

‘Your children will rise against you. Your children will no longer be united, so keep quiet,’ Bishop Obinim added.

The couple’s marital challenges have dominated public discussion in recent weeks, with both Bishop Obinim and Florence Obinim making public comments about their relationship.

Ghana Set For Colombia Showdown In World Cup Round Of 32

Ghana will face Group K winners Colombia in the Round of 32 at Kansas City Stadium on Saturday, July 4, after the Black Stars edged into the knockout stage as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams.

Colombia progressed unbeaten after topping Group K with seven points from two wins and a draw.

Néstor Lorenzo’s side impressed with a balanced campaign, conceding just one goal while producing clinical displays in attack, with Luis Díaz and Jhon Durán playing key roles.

Having already secured qualification, Colombia rotated their squad for their final group fixture against Portugal.

Ghana’s journey to the knockout stage was far more dramatic. Carlos Queiroz’s men finished third in Group L with four points, following a victory over Panama, a hard-fought goalless draw against England, and a narrow 2-1 defeat to Croatia in Philadelphia.

Although Colombia enter the contest as favourites after an impressive group-stage campaign, Ghana have already shown they can compete with elite opposition.

The Black Stars frustrated England in a 0-0 draw and pushed Croatia close despite defeat.

With the group stage now behind them, both teams know there is no margin for error.

Colombia will be aiming to continue their strong form and equal their run to the quarter-finals at the 2014 World Cup, while Ghana will look to spring an upset and keep their dream of a deep tournament run alive.

Celebrate Me Now, Not When I Die – Obaapa Christy

Gospel singer Obaapa Christy says she wants to be celebrated while she is still alive and not when she is dead.

She made the claim during the launch of her upcoming concert, Royal Praise, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

The veteran musician said she does not want people to wait until she retires or dies before appreciating her contributions to gospel music.

‘People should celebrate me now. They shouldn’t wait until I retire or leave this world before appreciating what I have done,’ she reportedly said.

According to Obaapa Christy, many musicians dedicate their lives to inspiring people, but they must receive the recognition they deserve while still alive and not only after they are gone.

Suspend All High- Profile Visits To Black Stars – Sammens

Media personality Samuel Attah-Mensah, popularly known as Sammens, has called for an immediate halt to politicians and celebrity visits to the Black Stars camp.

His call follows the increasing visitation by some high-profile Ghanaians to the Black Stars training camp to either share a word or serenade them for their previous success, a situation many have called for a stop to.

Sammens, on his X page, called on the managers of the team, Ghana Football Association (GFA) to put a stop to these visitations as it may shift the focus of the team in the FIFA World Cup tournament.

‘Black Stars!! Enough of the visits by Politicians and State Officials to your camp. In fact, let’s suspend all these high-profile visits and let them focus 200%. Everybody wants to go and address the players. Boi33 boi,’ he wrote.

His comments follow a wave of viral visits to the team’s camp, including from entertainers like King Paluta and actor Yaw Dabo, as well as political figures like Ibrahim Mahama. Several celebrities also engaged with players on camera.

Critics argue the frequent attention has distracted the squad and contributed to a dip in focus since the 2026 World Cup began.

Sammens insists the team needs less noise and more concentration if Ghana is to make a real impact in the tournament.

Manaf Salutes Ayawaso North NPP After Vetting

A former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ayawaso North Constituency parliamentary candidate, Alhaji Manaf Mohammed, has described the recently concluded work of the Elections Committee in the electoral area as successful.

He thanked all who partook in the filing of nomination forms, vetting of candidates, and balloting for positions in Ayawaso North for a work well done.

‘I want to use this opportunity to thank the Committee for their excellent work, professionalism, and commitment to a transparent process,’ he said.

He also extended special commendation to ‘Constituency Chairman, Chairman Kelly, Augustine Ofori Gyebi and the 2nd Vice Chairman Manaf Ayitey for going unopposed.’

Their acceptance by the rank and file of the party, he said, ‘is a clear vote of confidence and a testament to your leadership.’

He congratulated all aspirants who have successfully sailed through the vetting. Stepping forward to serve, he said, is itself ‘an act of courage and love for our constituency.’

‘As we begin campaigns, I urge all candidates and supporters to conduct their activities with decorum, respect, and unity. Let us campaign on ideas and records, not insults,’ he added.

He called for mutual respect among opponents because, as he put it, ‘after elections, we must still build Ayawaso North together as one family under the NPP flag.’

‘I wish you all the very best. May Allah grant us peaceful and successful constituency elections that will strengthen our party for victory 2028 under the leadership of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,’ Alhaji Manaf said.

Transfer Kwadwo Safo Trial To High Court – Adwoa Safo To AG

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has petitioned the Attorney General (AG) to transfer the trial of her brother and eight (8) others related to her shooting to the High Court.

The petition submitted by her lawyer, Gary Nimako Marfo, argues that the Adenta Circuit Court which is currently conducting the case does not have jurisdiction to conduct the trial given the charges levelled against the accused persons.

Adwoa Safo survived a dramatic shooting incident at her younger brother’s house on June 21, an incident that spread on social media like wild fire, further sparking rumours of divisions within the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.

Reports say she has undergone two separate surgeries at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra and may require a further procedure abroad in the coming days or weeks.

The police have arrested her younger brother and eight other individuals in connection with the incident which has sparked public concerns after multiple videos of the shooting incident circulated on the internet.

Kwadwo Safo Akofena and eight other individuals have been granted a bail of GHS500,000 each over a shooting incident that left the former MP sustaining multiple gunshot injuries.

The nine were hauled before court charged with multiple criminal charges, including use of offensive weapon, possession of offensive weapon, prohibition of vigilante groups and activities, discharging of firearms in public, and causing unlawful damage.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charges and the court granted them bail of GHS500,000 with two sureties each while the police conduct further investigations into the case. They are expected back in court on September 30.

The accused persons are Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, Tamaklo Safo Jehosaphat, Kwabena Safo, Benjamin Amoakwa Sam, Enock Badu, Richard Ayitey, Gideon Safo, Nana Kwaku Afriyie, and Kwadwo Safo Koomson.

Police say seven of the accused persons are said to be personal bodyguards of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena.

Petition

But the former MP, through her lawyer, is asking the Attorney General to transfer the case from the Circuit Court to the High Court due to jurisdictional issues.

The petition pointed out that Adwoa Safo sustained very serious injuries on the left side of her face, back of the head, left ear, lower jaw and traces of gun bullets stuck in the skull of the head.

It also notes that police investigators identified visible bullet marks on the former MP’s vehicle.

The petition dated June 25, 2026, noted that the offence of intentionally and unlawfully causing harm with the use of an offensive weapon is a first-degree felony that ought to be tried before a High Court and not a Circuit Court.

‘Respectfully, the offence of intentionally and unlawfully causing harm with use of offensive weapon is a first-degree felony and is triable on indictment before the High Court, not the Circuit Court. The Circuit Court therefore lacks jurisdiction to entertain the matter, let alone consider an application for bail in respect of the accused persons,’ the petition notes.

The lawyer further argues that it is legally untenable that the police put the accused persons before a Circuit Court which ‘lacks jurisdiction to entertain the matter, let alone consider an application for bail in respect of the accused persons.’

The petition is, therfore, urging the Attorney General to ‘call for the docket, review and have the case filed at the High Court for the matter to go through full trial in an expeditious manner.’

Mahama Plans 5-Year Term For Prez, MPs, DCEs

President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that his government is considering constitutional reforms to extend the tenure of key political office holders from four years to five, arguing that the current term is too short to allow governments to effectively implement their development agenda before facing another election.

According to him, the planned reform would affect the offices of the President, Members of Parliament (MPs), District Chief Executives (DCEs) and Assembly Members if approved through the constitutional review process.

President Mahama announced the proposal during a stakeholder engagement in the Central Region as part of his two-day Resetting Ghana tour, where he outlined a number of governance reforms his administration intends to pursue.

‘We’re changing the term of office from four to five years for President, Members of Parliament and DCEs, as well as Assembly Members,’ the President said.

He noted that the nation’s current four-year political cycle places immense pressure on governments, leaving little time to fully execute policies before attention shifts to electioneering.

‘Within Africa, it is only us and Nigeria that we run the four-year term of office. The four years are not enough. When you come you have to put in place your government and before you start working the four-year period is here and you have to go for an election,’ he disclosed.

President Mahama stated that many African countries have adopted five-year political terms, which provides governments with greater stability and adequate time to implement programmes and deliver on their electoral promises.

‘Several countries in Africa do five years and we want Ghana to follow suit,’ he added.

The proposal also comes amid growing political speculation that President Mahama may seek to remain in office beyond his current tenure through constitutional reforms.

His latest remarks are likely to fuel those discussions.

U-17 Social Media Ban: MPs Back CRI Call

Child Rights International’s (CRI) proposal to restrict children’s access to social media is gaining support in Parliament, with lawmakers from both sides of the House backing calls for stronger online safeguards for minors.

The latest endorsements have come from the Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Mathew Nyindam, and the Member of Parliament for Twifo-Atti-Morkwa, David Vondee, who say stronger regulation is needed to shield children from harmful online content while preserving the educational benefits of the internet.

The support follows a recent study by Child Rights International, which called for legislation restricting access to social media platforms for children below the age of 17 and the introduction of mandatory age-verification systems to reduce children’s exposure to harmful online content, cyber abuse and sexual exploitation.

Speaking to the DAILY GUIDE, Mr. Nyindam said social media had become an important source of learning and communication for young people but warned that unrestricted access exposed children to pornography, online fraud and other inappropriate material.

‘We are in a technological world today where social media is taking over from the traditional media. There are a lot of people, including children, who learn many things from social media. But there are also negatives, and children can easily be exposed to harmful content if there are no restrictions,’ he said.

The Kpandai legislator said he supports the introduction of age-verification systems to ensure underage users are unable to access restricted online content.

‘There must be some kind of verification. If you are below the legislated age, you should not be allowed to access certain sites,’ he stressed.

Mr. Nyindam, however, said any restrictions should be targeted at protecting children rather than limiting adults’ access to online content.

He also urged the government, parents, schools and technology companies to work together to improve children’s online safety.

‘We must protect our children, but we should not completely close the internet to them because many things are now learned and taught through social media and digital platforms,’ he added.

Mr. Vondee also threw his weight behind CRI’s proposal, describing stronger controls on children’s social media use as necessary to protect their moral and educational development.

‘I agree that social media control is paramount to the growth of our children. The abuse of social media and the negative effect it has on our children is noticed across the globe,’ he said.

The Twifo-Atti-Morkwa MP, who serves on Parliament’s Information and Communications Committee, said many children are being exposed to immoral and sexually explicit content online, with negative consequences for their behaviour and academic performance.

‘Some kids use social media and visit sites that are immoral and sexual. These don’t prepare them well. The mind usually practises what it consumes. Many of these kids are occupied by these bad thoughts, and they don’t stick to their books, making them lose focus,’ he stated.

Mr. Vondee called for stringent measures to regulate internet access for minors and said children below the age of 18 should be prevented from accessing inappropriate online platforms and content.

‘There must be tough measures to ensure kids below 18 are controlled in their internet usage,’ he stressed.

He also pledged his support for any legislation introduced in Parliament to strengthen online child protection.

‘It’s a call I’d support when it comes to Parliament,’ he said.

Child Rights International has argued that excessive screen time, unrestricted access to social media and growing exposure to sexual content are placing children at risk.

The organisation is urging the government to enact legislation restricting social media access for children below the age of 17, introduce mandatory age-verification systems for digital platforms and strengthen child protection measures within Ghana’s online environment.

The endorsements by MPs from both the Majority and Minority sides of Parliament are expected to add momentum to the growing national debate over how Ghana should regulate children’s access to social media while safeguarding their rights to education, information and digital participation.

British Council Celebrates Academic Achievements

The British Council on Friday celebrated exceptional academic achievements at the 2026 British Council Partner Schools Awards, recognising outstanding students and schools from across Ghana for their performance based on Cambridge International Examinations results.

The event saw 41 students and 12 schools receiving trophies, gift sets and certificates for their performance in the annual ceremony, which brought together students, parents, school leaders, teachers, and education stakeholders from the British Council Partner Schools network to honour excellence in teaching and learning and to recognise the remarkable accomplishments of Ghanaian learners.

Held in Accra, the awards recognised high-achieving students across a range of Cambridge International subjects through the Best in Subject Awards, Star Performer Awards, and the prestigious Overall Best Student Award.

Some schools were also recognised for exceptional academic performance in both the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and A-Level, including awards for Overall Best IGCSE School and Overall Best A-Level School.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nii Doodo Dodoo, Country Director, British Council Ghana, congratulated the award recipients and acknowledged the role played by educators, parents, and school leaders in supporting student success.

He said, ‘Today we celebrate more than examination results. We celebrate dedication, resilience, ambition, and the collective effort of students, teachers, school leaders, and families who have worked tirelessly to achieve excellence. These awards demonstrate the outstanding potential of young people in Ghana and reinforce the importance of quality education in preparing learners for success in an increasingly interconnected world.’

The British Council also recognised Delhi Private School (DPS) International Ghana, which emerged as both the National and Regional Winner of this year’s Your World Competition under the theme, ‘Smarter Choices, Stronger Futures.’ This outstanding achievement reflects the school’s excellence in critical thinking, creativity, and engagement with global issues.
