Hell broke loose yesterday when a gang of macho men led by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Central Regional Chairman and the Awutu Senya East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) stormed Obatanpa FM radio station and locked up the place.

The programme host received hot slaps from the regional chairman, who accused the host of insulting him during the programme.

The incident reportedly occurred after a morning show programme which discussed the explicit narration by the Awutu Senya East Constituency Chairman about his relationship with the Member of Parliament (MP) of the constituency, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, a few days ago.

The radio station, following the action by the NDC persons, went off air and the workers ordered to vacate their posts.

But for the intervention of the Central East Regional Police Commander, who recovered the seized keys from the custody of the MCE, management of the station would have had to seek the intervention of a carpenter to open the place for them.

According to Mireku, a staff of the station, while leaving the studio, the MCE for Awutu Senya East, Seth Banini, attacked him physically, locked up the studio and pocketed the keys.

It was at this stage that the police was called in, and whose swift arrival obviated what could have resulted in a terrible situation.

Mireku said, ‘While leaving the station after the programme, I met the MCE who accosted me for, in his own words, saying nasty things about them. Two men also walked past me followed by the NDC Regional Chairman and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Coordinator for the municipality and the macho men. The regional chairman insulted me and asked whether we were those insulting him during the programme.

‘It was at this stage that I called my manager. The regional chairman got more angry, claiming that I was videoing the unfolding development. The Regional Chairman, Richard Asiedu, slapped me.’

It would be recalled that a few days ago, the Awutu Senya East Constituency NDC Chairman, Stephen Ofosu Agyare, narrated explicit engagement between him and the MP, which narration incurred the wrath of NDC women in the constituency, who are asking that he be suspended for being indiscrete and unmeasured in his utterance to a female.

Acquatic Masters placed second in the Ghana Swimming League with 354 points at Borteyman Sports Complex Acquatic Centre, marking its best performance since joining the league.

Apart from the feat, it also topped the women’s standings with 205 points and placed third in the men’s category with 141 points.

Among individuals who showed spectacular performance is 10-year-old, Aaron Aryee who left the Borteyman Sports Complex Aquatic Centre with 10 gold medals and one bronze from his individual events, making him one of the standout performers at the Ghana Swim League Season 4 Meet of Champions.

A tally of the official results shows that the club secured 33 gold, 32 silver and 27 bronze medals, bringing its total to 92.

Aquatic Masters fielded 30 swimmers, 22 of whom were aged 12 or younger, underlining the contribution of its younger athletes.

The event held on June 13 to 14 2026, brought together 187 swimmers from 14 clubs who competed in 138 events across freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, individual medley and relay races.

Ghana Dolphins retained the overall title, while Aquatic Masters finished ahead of Legon Swimming Club, Marlins Swim Team and the other clubs in the final standings.

Aaron was not the only young Aquatic Masters swimmer to make an impression at Borteyman. BervlynBrefo who topped the girls’ 9 to 10 category with eight gold and four silver medals, finished fourth in the overall female rankings with 68 points.

Iyanna Kumashie also won the girls’ 11 to 12 category with nine gold, two silver and one bronze, while Kendra Lean placed third in the same group. Aquatic Masters also swept the boys’ 9 to 10 category through Aaron Aryee, Jason and Kimathi Gyasi.

Head Coach of Ghana Dolphins, Darko Missihoun said the result was expected, given the improvement shown by the swimmers from the opening meet of the season and attributed the club’s rise to changes made by both the technical team and the athletes.

‘When the music changes, the dance must also change,’ he said, explaining that the team had continued to adjust its training and technical approach.

Aaron’s performance came as no surprise to those who had followed him over the years. The young swimmer has competed against older athletes since the age of six and has become the club’s leading male swimmer.

A senior prison officer has been thrown behind bars after he was allegedly caught trying to smuggle narcotics into the very prison he was meant to secure.

Chief Officer Michael Osei-Bonsu of the Ghana Prisons Service was arrested and remanded into custody on Wednesday, June 24 by the Kete-Krachi District Magistrate Court.

The arrest follows his detention last Friday, June 19, 2026, over an alleged attempt to sneak a substance suspected to be Indian hemp through the prison gate ahead of his night shift. According to an official statement from the Ghana Prisons Service, eagle-eyed officers on routine screening duties detected and retrieved the suspicious substance during standard checks at the gate.

‘The incident occurred on Friday, June 19, 2026, during routine security checks conducted by officers on duty before the commencement of the officer’s night shift. Through the vigilance and professionalism of the officers, the suspected narcotic substance was detected and retrieved at the prison gate,’ the Service stated.

After his arrest, Osei-Bonsu was handed over to Kete-Krachi District Police for investigation. He was later arraigned before the District Magistrate Court, which remanded him for two weeks.

The case has been adjourned to July 8, 2026. The Service says it has also interdicted the officer in line with internal regulations, pending both criminal proceedings and disciplinary action.

The Ghana Prisons Service has assured that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards drug-related offences and other contrabands, including mobile phones.

An aunt of former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament (MP), Sarah Adwoa Safo, has appealed to the police and courts to ensure justice in the ongoing probe into the June 21, 2026 shooting at a Kwabenya property linked to her nephew.

Speaking after suspects in the case were granted bail, Nana Pomaa Nyira said the decision had raised fears for the safety of Adwoa Safo’s relatives and associates.

‘We are always with her, informing people about the funeral, so if you grant them bail, then our lives are also in danger. We will plead with the authorities to deliver justice,’ she said.

She urged the Ghana Police Service to conduct a thorough investigation and hold those responsible to account. ‘The police should look into the matter and ensure that justice is served,’ Nana Pomaa Nyira added.

She questioned the circumstances of the incident, citing reports that 48 rounds of ammunition were fired during the confrontation. ‘I have seen that they have been granted bail, but I will insist that justice is served because this matter involved 48 bullets,’ she said.

Defending her niece, she described Adwoa Safo as a caring sister who helped raise her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, also known as Akofena. ‘Adwoa is not a thief. She loves Akofena; I will even say she raised him. Did she deserve what happened?’ she asked.

The shooting occurred at a property linked to Israel Kwadwo Safo in Kwabenya and is believed to be tied to a dispute over leadership and succession of the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder, Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo.

Adwoa Safo has denied allegations that she was armed or fired a weapon during the incident. She maintains she was at the property as a family member and did not intend to cause a confrontation.

Israel Kwadwo Safo and other suspects arrested in connection with the case have been granted bail of GHS4.5 million and are expected to continue assisting investigators as legal proceedings continue.

Nana Pomaa Nyira appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the judiciary to ensure ‘truth, fairness, and justice prevail’ as the matter moves through the courts.

Actor and comedian, Atemuda, has responded to recent remarks by fellow actor, Don Little, regarding his alleged GHS5,000 charge for movie appearances and claims about their past relationship.

In a video shared on social media, Atemuda denied Don Little’s claim that he brought him from Takoradi to Accra and helped him establish himself in the movie industry.

‘Don Little, so you won’t learn sense. I heard you saying you were the one who brought me from Takoradi to Accra, and they sacked me from Junkatown. Who sacked me? I’ve stayed here for so many years, even before I met you,’ he said.

Atemuda also dismissed claims that Don Little significantly supported him, questioning the kind of help he received from the actor.

‘Who did you help? Did you ever buy food for me? The day we went to eat together, were you the one who paid for it?’ he asked.

He further criticised Don Little for speaking negatively about him, saying, ‘You’re raining insults on me that I’m not nice, but are you nice?’

Don Little, in a viral video earlier this week, alleged that Atemuda charged him GHS 5,000 per day to feature in his film, even though he had helped him in the past. He was not happy and went on to launch a huge attack on Atumeda.

Some executive members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Awutu Senya East Constituency have called on the First Lady, Lordina Mahama and the party’s national leadership to immediately suspend the constituency chairman, Stephen Ofosu Agyare, over comments he allegedly made about a sexual relationship with the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor.

The women described the chairman’s alleged remarks as inappropriate for someone occupying the highest office at the constituency level, publicly discussing an alleged intimate relationship with an MP.

In a video that has since gone viral, a woman purported to be a branch officer in the constituency was seen calling on the First Lady to take action on the issue immediately.

The woman, who questioned the chairman’s conduct, regardless of whether the allegations are true or not, noted that the matter has gained attention on social media which, in her view, was bad.

‘This issue is all over social media. Even if it is true, should an adult like him be doing this to a woman? We take care of the home, we are the pillar of society. By doing this to a woman, you have brought the reputation of all women into disrepute,’ she added.

A report circulating on social media indicates that an NDC Executive in the constituency, who has been identified as the MP’s spokesperson, claimed in a recent interview on radio that his boss and the constituency chairman are not on good terms over a failed marriage proposal.

He said the MP, who agreed to marry the chairman as a second wife, later declined after helping her to become the parliamentary candidate for the NDC in 2020.

‘One of the main things that has brought about this division is that the constituency chairman wanted to marry Honorable Naa Koryoo in addition to his wife, then the woman said no, then he said it is the reason why I helped you to become MP, If you knew you wouldn’t marry me, why would you accept my help then.

‘But she told him that ‘you also did not say anything to me. I thought you were just helping me to campaign,” the spokesperson disclosed.

Another executive, who appeared to be on the side of the chairman, also alleged that the MP gave a World Cup ticket slot which was meant for the chairman, Stephen Ofosu Agyare, to her husband.

Meanwhile, efforts by DAILY GUIDE to reach the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East for comments on the issue has not succeeded, as her cell line has been off as of the time of filing this report.

It would be recalled that prior to the 2024 general election, Functional Executive Committee (FEC) and Assin Central executives withdrew Nurein Shaibu Migyimah from his position as the party’s Assin Central parliamentary candidate (PC) due to allegations of immoral acts and accusation of impregnating the wife of the party’s Assin Central General Secretary as well as anti-party activities.

Migyimah was suspended after investigations and deliberations by the NDC’s Central Regional Functional Executive Committee in response to the complaints filed against him.

Eight people sustained various degrees of injuries when a truck carrying a container rammed into four vehicles at the Mobil filling station bus stop near the Kanda Overpass in Accra yesterday afternoon.

The accident occurred at about 2:45 p.m., temporarily bringing traffic heading towards Circle to a standstill and attracting scores of onlookers to the scene.

The most severely damaged vehicle was a 207 Mercedes Benz commuter bus, which was badly mangled from the impact of the crash. Passengers on the rear seats sustained severe injuries.

Although the victims suffered varying degrees of injuries and the vehicles seriously damaged, no fatalities were recorded.

Traders who spoke to DAILY GUIDE attributed the accident to a possible brake failure. According to them, following the brake failure, the vehicle hit the back of the 207 Mercedes Benz bus, the impact of which affected the other vehicles; veering to the pedestrian walkway beneath the Kanda Overpass, where it finally stopped.

Eyewitnesses said the injured victims appeared helpless immediately after the crash, leaving bystanders to figure out how to help. Help eventually came and the injured were transported to hospital for attention.

The truck driver, who appeared distraught, declined to speak to the media or passers-by. He was later escorted away by officers from the Nima Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), some of whom remained on the scene to restore normalcy.

They were however unable to comment on the cause of the accident, explaining that they had yet to take a statement from the truck driver.

One eyewitness told DAILY GUIDE that she was grateful that no lives were lost, noting that many feared the truck, which was carrying a 20-foot container, could have overturned after the driver lost control.

A taxi driver whose vehicle was also involved in the accident disclosed that he was driving towards Circle beneath the Kanda Overpass when the truck struck his vehicle from behind.

‘I never saw the truck coming. The impact hit the back of my taxi and pushed the vehicle towards the GBC side of the road, even though I was heading towards Circle,’ he said.

While thanking God for sparing his life, the taxi driver expressed concern about the extent of damage to his vehicle. He said he was uncertain how he would raise money for repairs if the truck driver failed to compensate him.

Access Bank (Ghana) Plc has outlined its next phase of growth, shifting from balance sheet expansion to disciplined earnings growth, improved operating efficiency and stronger risk-adjusted returns.

At its 18th Annual General Meeting held in Accra on Friday, June 19, 2026, the Bank reported a record balance sheet of GHS19.02 billion for the 2025 financial year, up 14.9% year-on-year, supported by continued deposit growth, expanded lending and retained earnings.

The Bank delivered strong financial performance with its balance sheet with total equity rising to GHS2.04 billion, driven entirely by retained earnings. Customer deposits grew by 11.5% to GHS14.54 billion, while the loan book expanded significantly by 36.7% to GHS5.06 billion, effectively tripling lending since 2022.

Speaking at the AGM, the Board Chairperson of Access Bank (Ghana) Plc, Ama Sarpong Bawuah, expressed appreciation to shareholders, customers, employees, and regulators for their continued trust and support.

‘Despite a challenging operating business environment, Access Bank Ghana delivered a resilient performance underpinned by disciplined execution, customer-focused innovation, and the unwavering commitment of our people. We remain focused on creating sustainable value for our shareholders while supporting businesses, communities, and Ghana’s broader economic development of Ghana,’ Ms. Bawuah said.

The Managing Director of Access Bank (Ghana) Plc, Pearl Nkrumah, outlined the Bank’s strategic framework for 2026 and beyond: Grow, Transform, and Protect. According to Ms. Nkrumah, this framework is built around three forward priorities.

‘Under the Grow pillar, the Bank will focus on deepening customer relationships, strengthening deposit mobilization, expanding quality lending and increasing engagement across retail, SME, commercial, corporate, and public sector banking,’ she said.

Ms. Nkrumah said under transform, Access Bank will continue to accelerate digital adoption, improve operational efficiency, and build a leaner cost-to-serve model. Under Protect, the focus will remain on disciplined risk management, asset quality, capital preservation, regulatory compliance and the protection of long-term shareholder value. At the AGM, shareholders considered and approved the Bank’s Audited Financial Statements for the year ended December 31, 2025, and endorsed key board appointments to strengthen its leadership and governance.

These included the re-election of Miss Hadiza Ambursa and Mrs. Yvette Adounvo Atekpe as Independent Non-Executive Directors, and the appointment of Prof. David Dodoo-Arhin as Independent Non-Executive Director, Mr. Eugene Ocansey as Executive Director, Retail and SME Banking, and Mr. Nana Kwabena Afoom as Executive Director, Wholesale Banking.

A group calling itself Amenfi West Citizen Network and some indigenes of Wassa Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region have vented their spleen on the current government for not initiating any meaningful development project in the area despite their support for the ruling party over the years.

They argued that despite the municipality’s contribution to Ghana’s cocoa economy and other natural resources, including gold and timber, residents continue to struggle with basic road infrastructure.

‘We cannot fathom why the people here have supported the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for years but we cannot boast of any major development project, particularly when it comes to road network,’ they noted.

They cited the poor road network from Bawdie to Asankrangwa and from Asankrangwa to Sefwi Bekwai.

The residents were also dissatisfied over the stalling of some development projects, including health facilities initiated by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in the area.

Hundreds of residents therefore took to the streets last Friday to demand immediate action over the poor state of their roads.

They recalled several promises and assurances by President John Dramani Mahama during a campaign visit to the municipality that the road challenges would be addressed.

‘Many of our roads continue to remain in deplorable states with the conditions worsening during this rainy season,’ they remarked.

Dressed in red and black attires, the demonstrators held placards with inscriptions such as ‘We need roads, not promises,’ and ‘Where is our Cocoa money?’, ‘Where are our roads?’

The residents asserted that the lack of development in the area has affected every part of their lives, from farming and transportation to access to healthcare and education.

Chairman of the Amenfi West Citizen Network, Akwasi Ofori, said the residents have endured years of hardship due to the poor road network despite repeated appeals.

He said the demonstration was not only about roads and development projects, but also a demand for authorities to fulfil promises made to the people.

‘We are only reminding the government about its promises during the campaign time. President Mahama came to Asankrangwa, and promised us that if God permits and he wins the election, he will fix our roads,’ he said.

They continued, ‘The bad roads have become a daily burden, with farmers struggling to transport produce from farms to market centres and commuters spending more time and money travelling.’

They, therefore, called on the government and relevant authorities to move beyond promises and fix the roads and other developmental needs.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) was allegedly not available when the group stormed the Municipal Assembly to deliver their petition.

The group, therefore, refused to hand the petition over to the Municipal Coordinating Director, and insisted they wanted to give it to the MCE.

Ghana head coach, Carlos Queiroz expressed his frustration with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system after the Black Stars’ goalless draw against England in their Group L match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana earned a valuable point against the Three Lions at Boston Stadium on Tuesday, producing a disciplined defensive display to deny England despite the Europeans enjoying 79 per cent ball possession.

However, Queiroz was left unhappy with several decisions that went against his side, particularly a second-half incident involving England defender, Ezri Konsa, and Ghana substitute, Prince Adu Kwabena, inside the penalty area.

The Black Stars also felt aggrieved moments earlier when Adu Kwabena collided with England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, only for the referee to award a free kick instead of penalising the keeper.

Speaking after the match, Queiroz questioned the role of VAR, using humour to underline his disappointment.

‘Is VAR still working in the World Cup?’ he joked. ‘Do we still have VAR? I have doubts about that.’

The Ghana coach continued his criticism by suggesting VAR officials failed to review key moments involving his team.

‘The VAR referee was on vacation in the second half, apparently,’ he said.

Queiroz later added: ‘Once again, the VAR went for coffee. I like to take my coffee once in a while. It’s a clear penalty and a red card. Do you have any doubts about that, or is it only me who was at the game?’

Despite his frustration, the experienced coach later softened his remarks.

‘I am sorry for my sarcasm, but if I say this kind of thing seriously, they punish me. So I am joking,’ he said.

The draw leaves Ghana and England level on four points at the top of Group L ahead of Saturday’s decisive final round of group matches, with the Black Stars set to face Croatia.
