Delta Air Lines has celebrated 20 years of uninterrupted operations in Ghana, marking two decades of continuous service, customer excellence, and community impact in the market.

Over the past 20 years, Delta has transported two million passengers between the two countries, while connecting travellers from Accra to more than 215 destinations worldwide through its global network.

Speaking at the 20th Anniversary Dinner as Guest of Honour on behalf of President John Mahama, the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, highlighted Delta Air Lines’ role in strengthening Ghana-US relations and connecting people, families, and opportunities over the past two decades.

‘When Delta launched its nonstop service between Ghana and the United States 20 years ago, it was more than a commercial decision; it was a bold statement of confidence in Ghana and in the future of this partnership,’ he said. ‘Over the years, Delta has become a trusted link for families, businesses, students, and professionals, and has played a meaningful role in strengthening the connection between our two countries,’ Mr. Debrah said.

Echoing the importance of Delta’s longstanding presence and partnerships in Ghana, Rob LeBel, Managing Director – International and Specialty Sales, Delta Air Lines, said the anniversary represents far more than a milestone in aviation operations.

‘Today, we celebrate 20 years of partnership, connectivity, operational consistency, and the strong relationships Delta has built with the people and institutions of Ghana. Our presence in Ghana has been defined by long-term network commitment, and Ghana remains an incredibly important market within Delta’s Africa network. We are dedicated to supporting Africa’s growth and global connectivity for many years to come,’ he stated.

Delta became the first US airline to operate nonstop flights between the United States and Ghana, and has maintained two decades of uninterrupted operations, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring continued passenger movement and cargo connectivity during a period of significant global aviation disruption.

Delta’s presence in Ghana extends beyond scheduled flight services. In 2010, the airline supported the development of a boarding gate at the then Kotoka International Airport, contributing to improved passenger flow and operational efficiency.

As part of its continued investment in customer experience and operational efficiency, Delta introduced the Airbus A330-900neo on the Accra-New York route, delivering increased seat capacity, upgraded cabin features, and improved onboard comfort across all cabin classes as well as enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced emissions.

Through its partnership with Breast Care International, Delta has supported breast cancer awareness initiatives reaching more than 150,000 people and facilitated over 20,000 breast cancer screenings across Ghana.

The airline’s collaboration with Junior Achievement Africa has also supported youth leadership and skills development programmes through the Delta LEAD Camp and Innovation Camp, reaching thousands of young people across the region.

As part of its 20th anniversary celebrations, Delta commissioned a borehole project for the James Town community in Accra to support access to clean and reliable water for residents, following a courtesy call on His Royal Majesty Nii Teiko Tsuru II, Ga Mantse.

Ghana is set to host the 2027 World Cocoa Foundation Partnership Meeting in Accra, which will position the country at the centre of global efforts to rescue the cocoa industry from mounting threats including climate change, crop diseases and declining farmer incomes.

According to the Finance Ministry, the high-level meeting, scheduled for March 2027, marks a major recognition of Ghana’s leadership role in the global cocoa economy and comes at a critical moment for the future of the sector.

Announcing the event, the Deputy Minister of Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, warned that the global cocoa industry faced deep structural challenges that threatened both production and the livelihoods of millions of farmers.

He noted that cocoa supports more than 50 million people worldwide and underpins a global chocolate industry valued at over US$100 billion annually, yet many farmers who sustain the industry continue to live in poverty.

‘That contradiction must concern all of us because the future of chocolate cannot be secure if the future of cocoa farmers remains uncertain,’ he stated.

According to the Deputy Minister, the sector is under unprecedented pressure from climate change, environmental degradation, cocoa diseases, volatile global prices and growing demands for sustainability and traceability.

He said these challenges had exposed longstanding weaknesses within cocoa-producing economies and underscored the urgent need for reforms and stronger international cooperation.

The 2027 World Cocoa Foundation Partnership Meeting is expected to attract global industry leaders, chocolate manufacturers, policymakers, development partners and sustainability experts to discuss solutions to the sector’s most pressing concerns.

Key issues expected to dominate discussions include climate resilience, farmer livelihoods, supply chain sustainability, crop protection, productivity and long-term supply security.

Mr. Ampem described the meeting’s theme, ‘From Origin to Global Resilience,’ as consistent with Ghana’s ongoing ‘Cocoa Reset’ agenda, which seeks to reposition the country’s cocoa industry for sustainable growth and increased competitiveness.

He said the reset agenda represented one of the most ambitious transformation drives in Ghana’s cocoa sector in decades, with reforms aimed at restoring financial discipline, strengthening governance and improving farmer support systems.

The government, he explained, was also prioritising increased local cocoa processing to enable Ghana retain more value from its cocoa exports while improving productivity across the sector.

Mr. Ampem said the Accra meeting would provide an important platform for shaping what he termed a ‘new global cocoa compact’ focused on farmer prosperity, sustainability, innovation and resilience.

The event will coincide with the 80th anniversary of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) and Ghana’s 70th anniversary celebrations, a development government believes will deepen discussions on the strategic importance of cocoa to the national economy.

Selected crew members of DGL (Dance, Grow, and Live) Academy made a surprise appearance on Carter Efe’s Twitch live stream, delivering high-energy performances to Ghanaian tracks that drew praise from the host and viewers.

Founded by Dancegod Lloyd, DGL Academy operates under the motto ‘Dance, Grow, and Live’ and has grown from five dancers to a crew of about 20.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nzema East in the Western Region, Herbert Kuah Dickson, has denied the assertion that he failed to act on the activities of armed men at an alleged galamsey site, which has led to the death of a brother of the chief of Apansie in the municipality.

The purported armed men, according to sources, were brought to Apansie community to provide security at an alleged illegal mining site being operated by a perceived illegal mining company.

According to some of the residents, the modus operandi of the armed men was to fire indiscriminately to intimidate and deter the indigenes, who sometimes protest against their illegal activities.

The chief of the area, Nana Kojo Mensah, therefore initiated a move to invite leaders of the mining firm operating at the site to his palace to respond to concerns raised by the people about their activities.

The chief then sent a delegation including his brother, Mensah Ango, a linguist and some opinion leaders.

It was however alleged that the armed thugs protecting the mining site upon seeing the delegation, indiscriminately opened fire on them, killing Ago, 46, on the spot while the rest took cover and escaped.

After the unfortunate incident, the chief accused the MCE of failing to act despite several complaints lodged against the activities of the miners.

However, speaking to DAILY GUIDE in an interview yesterday, the MCE explained that the chief rather approached him and indicated that he did not want the company on his land anymore.

‘He told me that the concession should therefore be given to a different company. However, later, the Minerals Commission confirmed that the firm operating at the site had the necessary documents to do so.

‘So the chief is accusing me because his interest was not served,’ the MCE asserted.

He confirmed that six suspects, including three Chinese nationals, have been arrested by the police in connection with the incident.

He, however, indicated that the police have launched a manhunt for the suspect who fired the gun and is currently on the run.

He assured that the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) would take the necessary measures to maintain peace, law, and order in the community.

Meanwhile, the incident has since sparked anger among the youth of the community, who have threatened to set ablaze mining equipment and properties belonging to the illegal miners in retaliation for the killing.

They asserted that the mining site at the centre of the controversy is allegedly linked to a Canadian national identified only as Simon, who is alleged to have strong connection with some officials in government.

Participants of the ongoing all-female CAF Licence C Coaching Course were given a valuable practical learning experience on Saturday when they observed the Black Maidens’ FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Liberia at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The exercise formed part of the practical component of the coaching program aimed at developing more qualified female coaches in Ghana.

The 30 participants, led by Ghana Football Association women’s football development officer Jennifer Amankwa Sarpong and course instructor Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo alongside other instructors, used the match as a live case study for tactical and technical analysis.

During the game, the coaches closely assessed team organisation, player positioning, pressing patterns, attacking movements, transitions, and decision-making from both teams while taking detailed technical notes under the supervision of the instructors.

The Black Maidens’ commanding 6-0 victory over Liberia provided the participants with an ideal opportunity to analyse attacking build-up play, defensive structure, transition phases, and finishing efficiency in a competitive environment.

The all-female CAF Licence C Coaching Course forms part of the Ghana Football Association’s broader efforts to strengthen women’s football by increasing the number of trained and certified female coaches across the country.

Participants are expected to continue with both theoretical and practical sessions at the GFA Technical Centre throughout the duration of the course.

Radio presenter, Nana Romeo, has cautioned the National Film Authority (NFA) to be careful with the government’s newly announced GHS20 million Film Development Fund for the movie industry.

Speaking on United Showbiz on Saturday, Nana Romeo praised President John Mahama for supporting the creative arts sector, saying no previous president had made such a major move for the industry.

According to him, the fund is what the movie industry has been waiting for over the years, given constant complaints of neglect.

Despite welcoming the initiative, Nana Romeo warned that the fund could become a problem if it is not managed properly.

He explained that many people would closely monitor how the money is used and expect positive results from it.

‘If the money is not utilised properly, people will say it has been wasted and they will ask for accountability,’ he said.

Nana Romeo further described the fund as ‘a trap,’ stressing that it should not be seen as free money but something that must be used wisely.

He also advised NFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Kafui Danku, and her Deputy, James Gardiner, to be very careful about the filmmakers who receive financial support.

According to him, giving the money to irresponsible filmmakers could create serious problems for the authority in the future.

He added that the government is serious about recovering wasted public funds, and the NFA must ensure proper supervision and accountability in managing the fund.

The President of the Federation of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE), Davies Narh Korboe, has emphasised that Ghana possesses all the essentials to achieve food self-sufficiency and compete globally in agriculture.

Speaking ahead of the third edition of the Ghana Horticulture Expo 2026, scheduled for June 11-13, 2026, Korboe highlighted the nation’s unique advantages: its fertile lands, favourable climate and hardworking people as the foundation for building resilience in food security.

‘Ghana possesses the land, the people, the climate, and the potential to feed itself and compete globally. Agricultural self-reliance is not merely an economic ambition; it is a national responsibility. Legal team for former Director-General of National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, continued their cross-examination of the prosecution’s third witness in the alleged GHS49.1 million theft case, focusing attention on some bank transfers dating as far back as 2018.

Lead counsel, Samuel Atta Akyea, in his cross-examination of the witness, Mildred Donkor, focused on the transfer of funds from Advantage Solutions into Adu-Boahene’s personal bank account, which eventually ended in the account of the Director of Bureau of National Communications (BNC).

The transfers totaling GHS2,050,000 were made in July 2018 and December 2018, and captured in the bank statement of Advantage Solutions, a company owned by Adu-Boahene and his wife, with the witness serving as its Director.

The witness, reading from the company’s bank statement, confirmed that there was an outward transfer of GHS1.7 million in favour of Mr. Adu-Boahene in July and another GHS402,000 on December 3, 2018.

‘On the same day (July 9, 2018) as shown on page 82, there was an outward transfer in the sum of GHS1,650,000 to the Fidelity Bank in favour of the Director, Bureau of National Communications, is that not so?’ Mr. Atta Akyea asked.

‘Yes, my Lord. I can see the GHS1,650,000 per the document given me,’ the witness answered.

‘And at page 107, the sum of GHS400,000 was transferred out to the Fidelity Bank in favour of the Director, Bureau of National Communications, is that not so,’ the lawyer further asked.

‘I see the GHS400,000 transfer out per the document given me,’ the witness answered.

Mr. Atta Akyea then indicated to the witness that evidently, the transfer of GHS1,650,000 and GHS400,000 in favour of Director, BNC at the Fidelity Bank on July 9 and December 4, 2018 were made possible by the originating outward transfers from Advantage Solutions accounts as borne out by the bank statement she read.

Madam Donkor, in response, said as she had earlier told the court, she was working under instruction from Adu-Boahene for transactions to be effected, and the document she was reading from is her boss’ statement that was generated by the bank, ‘so, if instruction was given to me to do it, then it was carried out.’

‘From your testimony this morning, you were duly notified about the transfers to the Director, BNC account at the Fidelity Bank from Advantage Solutions Limited through A1’s (Adu-Boahene’s) account,’ the lawyer asked.

‘Counsel said it is my testimony but I was given documents to read after which he said I have confirmed,’ the witness answered.

Account Closure

Mr. Atta Akyea then suggested to the witness that the BNC Communications Bureau Limited (one of Adu-Boahene’s companies) account with UMB was closed in 2023 based on instructions she (witness) sent to the bank via an email dated March 2, 2023.

Madam Donkor said she was working under instructions from Adu-Boahene and his wife so, if an email was sent as the lawyer indicated, then it was an instruction from one of the couple, but she could not remember the exact date.

She was then shown the said email and she said ‘it is an email indicating being sent from me and I still go back to my word that I do such things not on my own authority but from the instructions of A1 and A2.’

Mr. Atta Akyea then sought to tender the email in evidence, but Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, objected to the tendering on ground of relevance.

The defence lawyer, in response, said the document is an email closing the account which received the sum of GHS49.1 million at the heart of this ‘criminal adjudication.’

He said it is emanating out clearly that the lifespan of the account was beyond 2020 and the court cannot close its eyes to see the matters post-dating 2020, which can ‘clearly explain and disprove the pathetic theory of the prosecution that the account was opened in 2020 for a criminal purpose.’

Justice Francis Achibonga overruled the objection and admitted the email. The case was adjourned to May 26 for further cross-examination of the witness.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have rescued 17 passengers, while three others are feared dead, in a fatal road accident last Friday at Woadze near Kpeve, along the Kpeve-Asikuma road in the Volta Region.

According to the GNFS, the Peki Fire Station received a distress call at approximately 9:58 a.m. and immediately dispatched a rescue team to the scene to assist victims trapped in a Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle with registration number GR 8231 C.

The vehicle was reportedly travelling from Abotuase in the Volta Region to Ningo in the Greater Accra Region when the crash occurred.

The commercial vehicle was carrying about 20 passengers which includes 11 males, five females, and four children at the time of the accident, with the rescue team successfully extricating 17 victims, including 13 adults and four children, from the vehicle.

However, three adults, two men and a woman, lost their lives in the crash.

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service at the Kpando Divisional Command joined emergency responders at the scene to assist with rescue and recovery efforts.

Also, Officials from the Ghana Ambulance Service at Afadjato and Juapong provided emergency medical support and transported the injured victims and the deceased to the Kpando Government Hospital and Peki Government Hospital.

The injured passengers are currently receiving treatment, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue pending further investigations.

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has called for peace and reconciliation in the face of current challenges of multiple dimensions.

He said this in his Eid-ul-Adha message to Muslims, which falls tomorrow. The occasion, he said, offers Muslims an opportunity to reaffirm their faith in Allah.

God, he quotes from the Holy Quran, said in Chapter 22 vs 37 that ‘he is not interested in the flesh and blood of the animal sacrifice on the day of the Eid but in our commitment to piety,’ emphasising that the occasion is not only for celebration but reflection.

The Chief Imam said the virtues of the Eid will be fruitless unless they have the capacity to guarantee attitudinal change and cleansing, as well as moral ascendancy in our society.

This, according to him, calls for attitudinal change from negativity to positivity in the supreme interest of society.

Eid-ul-Adha, he said, is the moral backbone of interfaith harmony among members of the Abrahamic fraternity.

He referred to the Divine order of God to Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael as the genesis of the Eid-ul-Adha, adding that this is the point of convergence among members of the Abrahamic faith.

To members of the Abrahamic faith, he called on them to regard the Eid-ul-Adha as another opportunity to reaffirm commitment to interfaith harmony, a bedrock of national unity and stability.

Continuing, he said that in darkness of socio-religious adversities, interfaith harmony serves as light that has brightened the path to prosperity.

On the global stage, he pointed with dismay the myriad of threats, which he added ranged from genocidal impunity to moral decadence.

He called for an end to the atrocities arising from the war in Iran and other areas of conflict.

‘We cannot surrender our God-given humanity to modern-day barbarism in the name of supremacy,’ he cautioned.
