Musician, Black Sherif, delivered a memorable performance after selling out his concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York.

The award-winning artiste entertained a capacity crowd with a setlist featuring his chart-topping songs and fan favourites, as attendees sang along and danced throughout the night.

Clips shared on social media showed the venue packed with fans, many cheering loudly and recording the performance on their mobile phones as Black Sherif commanded the stage with his trademark energy.

The sold-out event marks another milestone in the singer’s international career, highlighting his growing appeal beyond Ghana as he continues to perform to audiences across the globe.

The Ghana Police Band has been invited by the World Carnival Commission (WCC) to represent Ghana at two major international cultural celebrations – the Notting Hill Carnival in the United Kingdom and Boston Caribbean Carnival in the United States, as part of efforts to promote cultural exchange and the country’s rich musical heritage.

The invitation, contained in a statement issued by the World Carnival Commission, recognises Ghana’s contribution to global African and Caribbean cultural conversations and the country’s long-standing reputation for music, rhythm, and artistic excellence.

It said the Notting Hill Carnival is scheduled for August 28 to 31, 2026, in West London, while the Boston Caribbean Carnival will run from August 23 to 29, 2026, with the grand parade and concert forming part of a week-long series of activities.

The participation of the Ghana Police Band will provide an opportunity for the group to showcase Ghanaian discipline, creativity, and musical traditions on two of the world’s most celebrated carnival platforms.

WCC, in the statement, noted that the two events go beyond celebrations, but described them as symbols of resilience, identity, remembrance, and unity among African and Caribbean communities across the world.

Beyond its celebration of soca, calypso, reggae, and steelpan music, the carnival has become a major platform for preserving Caribbean traditions while supporting local businesses, artists, costume designers, and cultural entrepreneurs.

The week-long event features cultural showcases, youth steelpan competitions, pageants, and a grand parade and concert at Franklin Park in Dorchester. It provides an avenue for younger generations of Caribbean-Americans to connect with their heritage through music, dance, and history.

The WCC believes Ghana’s participation will further strengthen cultural ties between Africa, the Caribbean, and their global diaspora communities, demonstrating the power of music and culture as tools for unity and shared identity.

The Notting Hill Carnival, which began in 1966 among London’s Caribbean communities, particularly those from Trinidad, Jamaica, and Barbados, emerged during a period of racial tension in Britain. Over the years, it has grown into Europe’s largest street festival, attracting millions of people from diverse backgrounds annually.

The WCC further stated that the Boston Caribbean Carnival serves as a major celebration of Caribbean identity in the United States, bringing together communities from countries including Haiti, Jamaica, Trinidad, and Cape Verde.

Ghanaian television personality Matilda Adjoa Densu, popularly known as AJ Poundz, has been named ‘Best Dressed’ at the 2025 edition of the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards and received her cash prize.

For winning the fashion honour, AJ Poundz received a luxurious stay at Aqua Safari Resort and the bragging rights as the Best Dressed Personality on the night.

She received the award during the official launch of the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards held last Saturday in Accra.

Speaking after receiving the honour, AJ Poundz expressed gratitude to the organisers for the recognition.

The launch ceremony brought together DJs, entertainment industry stakeholders, sponsors, media personalities, and music enthusiasts to officially commence the 2026 campaign as well as unveil the calendar of activities leading up to the grand awards night.

AJ Poundz first came into the spotlight in 2011 when she represented the Eastern Region in TV3’s cultural and beauty pageant show, Ghana’s Most Beautiful.

She was also named Best Student Media Personality of the Year at the Ghana Social Media and Creative Arts Awards 2020.

Over the years, she has built a strong reputation in Ghana’s entertainment industry through hard work and consistency. Known for her versatility, AJ Poundz has continued to grow her audience, with her shows ranking among the most watched in the country.

The Guinness Ghana DJ Awards is set to return later this year with activities expected to run nationwide ahead of the main event.

Two young men have been remanded into prison custody for allegedly murdering an 18-year-old suspected burglar at Wenchi in the Bono Region.

Mufatawu Seidu, 18, an electrician, and Salifu Abubakar, 22, a sprayer, were hauled before the Wenchi Magistrate for allegedly assaulting Ibrahim Abu to death after accusing him of stealing a mobile phone, GNA reported.

According to the report, the accused will reappear before the court, presided over by His Worship Abdul Issah Wahab, on August 17, 2026, while police continue a manhunt for other alleged accomplices.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector John Agyare told the court that on July 31, 2026, at about 1100 hours, the complainant, Hawa Seidu, a trader, accompanied by one Sadia Yusif, reported the matter at the Wenchi Police Station.

He said the complainant stated that on July 22, 2026, the deceased, who was her son, returned home and informed her that a group of about 15 young men, led by a suspect known only as ‘Achimota’, had severely assaulted him after accusing him of stealing a mobile phone.

Chief Insp. Agyare told the court that the suspect known as ‘Achimota’, who remains at large, allegedly used a taser to repeatedly shock the deceased, who later complained of severe bodily pains.

The prosecutor said that on July 31, 2026, at about 0900 hours, nine days after the alleged assault, Ibrahim Abu fell unconscious and was rushed to the Wenchi Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Chief Inspector Agyare said police officers proceeded to the hospital and found the body of the deceased on a stretcher in front of the mortuary, covered with a bed sheet.

He said the body had since been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while police had intensified efforts to arrest the suspect known as ‘Achimota’ and other alleged accomplices who remain at large.

Brong Ahafo Region emerged champions of the Elite U17 Girls Competition after defeating Northern Region 3-1 on penalties in a tense final at Prampram.

Four people have been killed and several others injured following a dynamite explosion in the mining town of Aboso in the Western Region.

According to eyewitness accounts gathered by DAILY GUIDE, the blast happened after residents tried to kill a large snake in the area.

The resident who first spotted the snake alerted a nearby shop owner, who then fired a warning shot in an attempt to scare the reptile away, however, the shop’s security personnel took direct action and shot at the snake.

Unfortunately, the bullet hit a stock of explosive slabs being sold at a shop close by, triggering a massive explosion.

Speaking to journalists, the Assembly Member for Akutuase Electoral Area, Emmanuel Eshun, said three people died instantly at the scene. One of them was identified as the shop owner, Kofi Fletcher.

‘The fourth victim, who sustained severe injuries, later died while being rushed to a nearby health facility. That brings the death toll to four,’ he said.

Mr. Eshun added that, ‘several other individuals sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.’

The police disclosed the launch of investigation into the incident, with particular focus on the illegal sale of explosive materials in the community.

Meanwhile, some residents have expressed concern over the storage and sale of dynamite slabs in residential areas. They are appealing to authorities and regulatory agencies to clamp down on the practice.

The Aboso community remains in shock as families mourn the victims of the tragic incident.

Ghanaian students have been urged to embrace lifelong learning and acquire future-ready skills to meet the changing demands of the global labour market.

Speaking at the 2026 National Youth Mentorship Summit (NYMS) themed, ‘Preparing Young People for the Future Workplace,’ Mr. Mattah said the world of work is undergoing unprecedented transformation, with technological innovation reshaping industries and redefining the skills employers expect from graduates.

He observed that rapid technological advancement has fundamentally transformed workplaces worldwide, making continuous learning and skills development indispensable for young people seeking sustainable careers.

According to him, employers are increasingly looking beyond academic qualifications, placing greater value on candidates who possess practical competencies, professional certifications, industry experience and the ability to solve real-world problems.

‘The job market you are entering today is very different from the one our parents entered. Technology has transformed the workplace, and employers now want people who can demonstrate skills and deliver results,’ he said.

Mr. Mattah explained that while university degrees remain important, they are no longer sufficient on their own to guarantee employment, as organisations now seek graduates who can immediately contribute value in the workplace.

He urged students to adopt a mindset of continuous improvement, stressing that lifelong learning has become a necessity rather than an option for anyone seeking long-term career success.

General Manager for Sustainability and Shared Value at MTN Ghana, Georgina A. Fiagbenu, urged Ghanaian youth to equip themselves with the skills, discipline, and innovative mindset needed to drive the country’s future development.

According to her, although unemployment remains a major concern, many organisations continue to struggle to recruit competent, disciplined and solution-oriented young people because a significant number of applicants are not adequately prepared for the workplace.

‘We don’t have enough prepared youth. There are many opportunities available. People are looking for good people and great people to work with, but they are sometimes disappointed because applicants are simply not prepared,’ she said.

The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God (AG), Ghana, Rev. Stephen Wengam, is leading the entire Executive Presbytery on a week-long apostolic and missions visit to The Gambia. It is the first time all the top officers of the church in Ghana are visiting the mission field together.

The delegation includes Rev. Godwin Tito Agyei, Assistant General Superintendent; Rev. Ernest Birikorang, General Secretary; Rev. Simon Abu Baba, General Treasurer; and Rev. Dr. Freeman Osei-Tete, Head of Operations at the church’s headquarters.

They were received at Banjul International Airport by a team led by the National Head of Assemblies of God, The Gambia, Rev. Paul Ampofo Williams.

During the visit, Rev. Wengam and his team will tour various Assemblies of God branches across The Gambia.

The General Superintendent is also billed to speak at the National Pastors and Leaders Conference, ordain and credential pastors, dedicate a new church temple, and hold a strategic meeting with the national leadership of the church in The Gambia.

The Gambia holds a special place in Assemblies of God Ghana’s history. It was the church’s first mission field, planted about three decades ago under the leadership of the late General Superintendent, Rev. Simon Asore.

The pioneer National Head of the church in The Gambia was Rev. (Rtd.) Jerry Adjorlolo.

Today, missionaries from Assemblies of God USA and Assemblies of God Brazil are working alongside the Ghana mission in The Gambia.

Welcoming the delegation, Rev. Ampofo expressed excitement about the visit.

‘This historic visit will strengthen and advance the missions work in The Gambia,’ he said.

The visit is expected to deepen ties between the Ghana church and its first mission field, and to provide support for church growth and leadership development in the country.

Irish boxer Lee Reeves is in a critical but stable condition in hospital after being stretchered from the ring following his bout against Gary Cully in Dublin on Saturday.

The 31-year-old from Limerick was challenging Cully for the vacant BUI Celtic super-lightweight title at the 3Arena when he was knocked out in the 10th round. Medical personnel immediately attended to Reeves before transferring him to hospital.

A spokesperson for Queensberry Promotions confirmed on Sunday that Reeves remains under close medical care.

‘Lee Reeves is still in hospital, in a critical but stable condition. We will know more in the coming days, and our thoughts and prayers remain with Lee and his family.’

Cully, who secured the title with the knockout victory, expressed concern for his opponent after the fight.

‘I hope he’s okay,’ Cully said. ‘He came in as a big underdog but showed he belongs at this level. Huge credit to him.’

Queensberry promoter Frank Warren also offered his support, saying everyone at the promotion is thinking of Reeves and remains in constant contact with his team while hoping for positive news.

The contest formed part of the undercard to the main event between Pierce O’Leary and Mark Chamberlain, which also ended with a 10th-round knockout victory for the visiting Chamberlain.

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has busted a network of 10 Koforidua Technical University (KTU) students allegedly producing and selling cannabis-infused drinks and ice cream on campus.

Leading the operation, according to NACOC, was 23-year-old Priscilla Tetteh, named as the suspected ringleader of the group. The arrests were made during an intelligence-led swoop carried out during the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Hall Week celebrations between Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1.

In a statement, NACOC said officers apprehended Priscilla Tetteh along with nine other students believed to be part of the trafficking network.

The suspects were allegedly caught selling the cannabis-laced products to students and other patrons attending the event.

The Commission noted that the operation was triggered by months of monitoring on campus, following reports of students packaging and distributing intoxicating consumables disguised as regular snacks and beverages.

All 10 suspects are currently in NACOC custody and assisting with investigations. They are expected to be processed for prosecution in accordance with the Narcotics Control Commission Act.

NACOC has warned students and vendors against the production and sale of drug-infused products, saying it will intensify surveillance in tertiary institutions to curb the trend. Authorities say the seized items have been sent to the lab for further analysis.

Meanwhile, the university management is yet to respond to the criminal case.

It would be recalled that the Narcotics Control Commission arrested five students of Central University during a targeted operation on campus over their alleged involvement in the sale and distribution of cannabis and cannabis-infused products.

The suspects, who are Level 100, Level 300, and Level 400 students, were picked up following intelligence gathered on illicit drug activities within the university community.

According to preliminary investigations, the students were allegedly engaged in the production and sale of cannabis-infused ice cream, sobolo, toffees, pepper, and eggs, while also dealing in raw cannabis.

The operation uncovered quantities of the suspected substances, which have been seized for forensic examination as part of ongoing investigations.

NACOC officials have reaffirmed their commitment to combating drug-related activities in educational institutions, warning students against involvement in the trafficking and consumption of narcotic substances.
