THE ASHANTI Regional Police Command are investigating a top police officer in the region, who has been accused of promoting prostitution for financial gains.

The beleaguered police officer, whose name has not been disclosed by the police for security reasons, allegedly, owned brothels at Asafo BB in Kumasi, where prostitutes operate.

According to Superintendent of Police, Godwin Ahianyo, who is the head of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, the command consider the case as very serious.

In this regard, he has assured in a press statement that the allegations would be thoroughly investigated and the necessary actions taken afterwards.

‘The Ashanti Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into allegations against a Chief Inspector stationed in the region for allegedly owning unauthorised wooden structures at Asafo BB and renting them out to commercial sex workers.

‘The Command takes the allegations seriously and wishes to assure the public that further developments following the investigations will be communicated,’ he stated in the press release, issued on July 10, 2026.

Meanwhile, the paper has learnt that the Kumasi Mayor, Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, got to know that a police officer owns brothels at Asafo BB when the assembly demolished illegal structures in the area, recently.

Nicknamed ‘Zuba’, the Kumasi Mayor immediately reported the said officer to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, who quickly started their investigations into the allegations.

‘It may surprise you to know that some of the brothels at Asafo BB where the commercial sex workers engage in their illegal activities are owned by some police officers in the city.

‘I have personally reported the policemen involved in that illegal activities to the Ashanti Regional Police Command for investigation’, Zuba disclosed in a radio interview.

Ghana’s Black Maidens have booked their place at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after defeating Senegal 7-6 on penalties in a thrilling final qualifying match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

The Black Maidens showed tremendous character to recover from an early setback before prevailing in a nerve-racking penalty shootout, with the second leg ending 1-1 and the overall tie finishing 2-2 across both matches.

Having battled to a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Dakar, both teams entered the return fixture knowing victory would secure a place at the global tournament in Morocco. Senegal made the stronger start and silenced the home crowd by taking the lead after just 10 minutes, placing Ghana under immediate pressure.

Despite the early blow, the Black Maidens refused to panic. Coach Joe Nana Adarkwa’s side gradually settled into the contest, enjoying more possession and creating openings as they searched for an equaliser.

Their persistence was rewarded moments before halftime when captain Seidatu, who plays for Oaks FC, produced a composed finish in the 44th minute after a well-worked attacking move. The goal brought the Accra Sports Stadium to life and ensured the teams headed into the break level at 1-1.

The second half was fiercely contested as both teams pushed for the decisive goal. Ghana looked the more adventurous for long spells, while Senegal remained dangerous on the counterattack. However, both defences stood firm and neither goalkeeper was beaten again during regulation time.

With the aggregate score tied at 2-2 and the qualification format requiring no extra time, the contest went directly to a penalty shootout.

The shootout proved every bit as dramatic as the match itself. Both teams converted several spot-kicks with remarkable composure before Ghana eventually edged the Teranga Lionesses 7-6 to spark wild celebrations among the players, coaching staff and supporters.

Ghana’s qualification is another major milestone for the country’s women’s youth football programme and gives the Black Maidens another opportunity to compete against the world’s finest young talents.

The 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be staged in Morocco from October 17 to November 7, with the Black Maidens now set to represent Ghana on the global stage after an unforgettable qualifying triumph.

The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested two Nigerian nationals in connection with the alleged murder of a fellow Nigerian, whose body was discovered in a pool of blood at his residence in Sanzirigu, a suburb of Tamale.

The suspects, identified as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, were arrested while allegedly attempting to flee into neighbouring Togo through the Tatale route shortly after the incident.

The deceased, Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze, 36, was found dead in his bedroom after police received a report that he was lying motionless in a pool of blood.

According to preliminary investigations, the deceased lived in a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects and another Nigerian national, Godwin Nwafor.

A police team that visited the scene found the deceased with a deep cut wound on his forehead and a towel stuffed into his mouth. Investigators also observed that the room had been ransacked.

During the crime scene examination, officers recovered a wooden pestle believed to have been used in the attack, together with other items for forensic analysis.

The body was conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where a medical officer confirmed the victim dead before it was deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police said intelligence-led operations led to the interception and arrest of the two suspects at Tatale on the same day they allegedly attempted to escape into Togo.

They were subsequently handed over to the Tamale District Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to assist with investigations.

According to the police, the suspects admitted during interrogation to conspiring to kill the deceased, claiming he had withheld proceeds from alleged internet fraud activities in which they had been involved.

A search conducted after their arrest led to the recovery of several items suspected to have been stolen from the deceased’s room, including mobile phones, laptop computers, a tablet, jewellery, wristwatches, clothing, personal documents and other valuables.

The recovered items have been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.

The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court.

The Northern Regional Police Command said investigations were continuing, including forensic examination of the recovered exhibits and efforts to obtain relevant CCTV footage to establish the full circumstances surrounding the murder.

The command assured the public of its commitment to ensuring that all persons connected with the crime are brought to justice and appealed to members of the public to volunteer credible information to assist in the fight against crime.

Gunshots rang out at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) constituency executive elections at Wiamoase in the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency of the Ashanti Region yesterday, as police arrested media personality, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, following clashes over a reported court injunction.

The unrest erupted at the polling centre after Okatakyie Afrifa, who hails from the constituency, reportedly arrived with some supporters to serve what was described as a court injunction seeking to halt the election.

Eyewitnesses said armed police officers prevented him from entering the polling station, triggering a confrontation between security personnel and some of his supporters.

As tensions escalated, police fired several gunshots to disperse the crowd and restore order. The sound of gunfire sent delegates and party supporters running for safety, temporarily disrupting the voting process.

Videos circulating on social media showed panic at the polling station as people fled while armed officers moved in to control the situation. Other footage showed Okatakyie Afrifa being escorted into a police vehicle before being driven to an undisclosed police station.

Witnesses said several of his supporters were also arrested during the incident.

It was not immediately clear whether the shots were fired into the air or whether anyone sustained injuries. However, eyewitnesses indicated that no casualties had been recorded.

As of yesterday evening, the Ashanti North Regional Police Command had not issued an official statement on the arrest or the circumstances surrounding the reported court injunction.

Violence Spreads to Bantama

The incident was one of several disturbances that marred the NPP’s constituency executive elections in parts of the Ashanti Region over the weekend.

In the Bantama Constituency, unidentified men reportedly stormed the polling centre at the Kumasi Cultural Centre on Saturday, destroyed election materials and dispersed delegates.

The group reportedly claimed that a court injunction had restrained the constituency from conducting the election and accused party officials of disregarding the order.

Police later arrested three suspects in connection with the violence.

The Bantama election was subsequently reorganised on Sunday, with voting taking place under tight security after the Electoral Commission’s polling booths were reportedly replaced with temporary hospital ward screens.

Court Orders Divide Constituencies

Reports also indicated that some constituencies, including Asante Akyem Central and Adansi Asokwa, proceeded with their elections despite reported court injunctions. In Adansi Asokwa, voting was allegedly conducted without the supervision of Electoral Commission (EC) officials.

However, elections were suspended in constituencies including Atwima Mponua, Manso Nkwanta and Manhyia North, where party officials reportedly complied with court orders restraining the polls.

Most Polls Held Peacefully

Despite the isolated incidents of violence and legal disputes, constituency executive elections were conducted peacefully in several other constituencies, including Manhyia South and Asokwa.

The disturbances come amid heightened tensions surrounding the NPP’s nationwide constituency executive elections, with several contests being challenged in court over alleged electoral irregularities and procedural disputes.

A 44-year-old headteacher, Selorm Kwaku Tettey, popularly known as ‘TK,’ has been found dead in a guest house in Akatsi in the Volta Region under circumstances yet to be established.

Mr. Tettey, the Headteacher of Glikpome Basic School in the Akatsi South Municipality, was discovered lying lifeless on a bed in a room at the Joli Bebe Guest House at about 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

According to information gathered, the body was discovered by a worker of the guest house who entered the room to carry out routine housekeeping duties and immediately raised an alarm.

The Akatsi South Municipal Director of Education, Karim Ayaana Umar, confirmed the incident but declined to provide further details, noting that both the Ghana Police Service and the family were yet to issue official statements on the matter.

He appealed to the public to remain calm and allow the police to conduct thorough investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Sources indicated that prior to the discovery, the deceased’s wife had made several unsuccessful attempts to reach him by telephone. Concerned about his whereabouts, she reportedly informed the Municipal Education Directorate and was later accompanied by Mr. Ayaana to the Akatsi Municipal Police Command to lodge a formal complaint.

While they were at the police station, police officers received information that a man had been found dead in a room at the Joli Bebe Guest House. Officers subsequently proceeded to the scene, where the deceased was identified as Mr. Tettey.

Assembly Member for the area where the incident occurred, Wonder Gatepe, said staff of the guest house alerted him after discovering the deceased lying motionless in the room.

According to him, he rushed to the facility and found Mr. Tettey lying lifeless on the bed before personnel from the Akatsi Municipal Police Command arrived to commence investigations.

He disclosed that a bag containing educational materials, a mobile phone, canned malt drinks and other personal belongings were found in the room. He further noted that there were no visible signs of physical assault on the body.

The Akatsi Municipal Police Command confirmed the incident but declined to disclose further details, stating that investigations were ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the education fraternity in the Akatsi South Municipality, with teachers, colleagues and friends describing the deceased as a dedicated, intelligent and hardworking educationist.

The body has since been deposited at the St. Paul’s Hospital Morgue in Akatsi for preservation, autopsy and further investigations.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Ghana Police Service nor the Ghana Education Service had issued an official statement on the incident.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has condemned a violent attack on Zohe E.P. Schools in the Yendi Municipality of the Northern Region after armed men reportedly stormed the school premises during a dispute over the construction of a commercial shed.

A preliminary investigation by the GES revealed that the incident stemmed from a disagreement between some community members and the school authorities over attempts to erect a commercial shed on the school’s compound.

In a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the GES said the situation escalated when the aggrieved community members fired several warning shots into the air, causing panic among students and staff.

During the incident, the Headmaster of Zohe E.P. Junior High School, Mohammed Shani Gazali, was assaulted.

According to the GES, he was rushed to hospital, where he received medical treatment and was later discharged.

The statement said although no fatalities or serious injuries were recorded, the incident disrupted academic activities and led to the vandalisation of some school property.

The matter has since been reported to the police for investigation.

To ensure the safety of students and staff, the GES announced the temporary closure of the Zohe E.P. Schools while consultations continue with the relevant stakeholders and security agencies.

According to the statement, the school is expected to reopen on today, subject to security clearance.

The GES condemned the attack in the strongest terms, warning that acts of violence, vandalism and intimidation directed at members of the school community would not be tolerated.

‘Management condemns such acts of vandalism in the strongest terms and warns that any attack on members of the school community, including staff and students, as well as acts that render the school environment unsafe for teaching and learning, shall not be tolerated,’ the statement said.

The Service assured parents, guardians, teachers and the general public that the safety and security of learners and staff remain its highest priority, adding that it will continue to work closely with the security agencies to restore calm and ensure a safe environment for teaching and learning.

The Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly has summoned 17 individuals and institutions for various sanitation offences, with the offenders expected to face prosecution as authorities intensify efforts to enforce environmental sanitation laws.

The offenders were cited during a nationwide clean-up exercise organised across the district to improve environmental hygiene and promote public health.

Among those summoned is the management of the Shell filling station at Afrancho, for allowing large volumes of refuse to accumulate on its premises in breach of the Assembly’s sanitation bylaws.

Several business operators were also cited for operating in filthy surroundings, with the frontages of their shops left unkempt despite repeated public education campaigns and directives from the Assembly on the need to maintain clean environment.

The clean-up exercise brought together personnel from the Ghana Police Service, staff of the District Assembly, churches, non-governmental organisations and residents, who cleared heaps of refuse and desilted choked drains and gutters across the district.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, District Environmental Health Analyst, Kwame Kusi Agyemang-Badu, disclosed that most of the offenders were from the Buoho and Afrancho communities.

He warned that the Assembly would prosecute the offenders to serve as a deterrent to others who continue to flout the district’s environmental sanitation regulations.

The District Coordinating Director, Yakubu Baba Seidu Kamara, also told DAILY GUIDE that the Assembly would not relent in enforcing its sanitation bylaws.

He condemned the persistent disregard for sanitation regulations by some residents and business operators and urged the public to adopt proper waste management practices and support the Assembly’s efforts to maintain a clean, healthy and environmentally safe district.

The country is facing an urgent family planning commodity crisis following the exit of USAID, which previously supplied 45% of the country’s contraceptives, as stakeholders meet to chart a sustainable way forward.

Speaking at a High-Level Stakeholders’ Summit convened by MSI Reproductive Choices Ghana with support from UNFPA, Dr Doris Amarteifio, Programmes Manager, Family Planning, Ghana Health Service (GHS) said the withdrawal created a major funding gap.

Before the exit, support stood at USAID 45%, UNFPA 40%, Government of Ghana 10% and WAHO 5%. Government has since increased its share from 5% to 20% for 2025, with UNFPA also stepping in, but stock levels remain critically low.

‘We have 11 commodities that partners procure for us. Our minimum stock level is six months, but some commodities are less than one month,’ Dr. Amarteifio stated. ‘Depot-Provera currently stands at 0.11 months, female condoms at 2 months, and male condoms, which are highly patronized, at 1.4 months. As we speak, that figure keeps going down.’

The summit brought together about 50 senior participants from government, development partners, civil society, the private sector, academia, and traditional and religious leadership to agree on practical, time-bound actions to strengthen financing, coordination, and commodity security.

The meeting also created the platform to share findings of a new research on income flows from family planning services and private sector engagement with participants.

Presenting the findings, Project Consultant, Dr. Godfred Bonnah Nkansah, said the results showed that facilities collect small fees for service delivery, but policies on revenue sharing are not being followed. Per policy, 50% should stay at facility level, with 10% each to district and regional levels and 30% to national level.

‘In practice, facilities are not adhering to that arrangement, so we don’t really know how the money is utilised,’ Dr. Nkansah said, warning that the country could be losing substantial funds.

He added that some facilities are charging over 300% above the Ghana Health Service (GHS) cap.

To address the gaps, the research recommended the establishment of a domestic fund, a digital tracking system from facility to national level, and local production of family planning commodities.

The research also urged Ghanaians to enroll on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), noting that while commodities are free, service delivery costs can be reimbursed through NHIS to sustain facilities.

‘Without a sustainable funding mechanism, commodities, transport and consumables will not get to the last mile,’ Dr. Nkansah said.

The Ghana Health Service and Ministry of Health said they will investigate reports of overcharging, stressing that family planning commodities are supposed to be issued free of charge.

The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, has addressed the 22nd Biennial General Council Meeting of the Guyana Assemblies of God in Georgetown.

Rev. Wengam, who also serves as a Cabinet/Executive member of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, spoke on the theme ‘The Awesome Deeds of Prayer.’

He told the gathering that, ‘intense, consistent, deliberate and prolonged praying births unequaled revival. More prayer provokes the release of fresh revival.’

Citing biblical and historical examples, Rev. Wengam noted that prayer birthed the Azusa Street Revival in Los Angeles, USA, which led to the formation of the Assemblies of God in 1914.

He also referenced Acts 1:14, where 120 disciples prayed for 10 days in the Upper Room before the Holy Spirit was poured out.

‘The Holy Spirit did not fall on the first or second day because it takes much prayer for great revival to take place, like what happened on the day of Pentecost,’ he emphasised, referring to Acts 2.

Following the sermon, Rev. Wengam led the congregation in intense prayer, resulting in what attendees described as a tangible manifestation of the Holy Spirit and a wave of revival.

Testifying after the session, the General Superintendent of the Guyana Assemblies of God, Bishop John Smith, said the church had experienced, ‘the visitation of the Holy Spirit in an unusual manner.’
