Count Your Days- Kojo Junior Tells Kwabenya MP

Content Creator, Kojo Junior, has registered his displeasure over the lack of developmental projects within the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency.

Kojo Junior, in a post on X, revealed that the current Member of Parliament (MP), Faustina Elikplim Akurugu of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has nothing to account for since her election to office.

He also compared the current MP to the former MP of the constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo, giving the impression that the previous lawmaker is more effective than the current one.

The post read, ‘To the Kwabenya minister (MP) who won the seat because we were tired of Adwoa Safo, count your mf days!’

He added, ‘It’s not even hard to please Dome-Kwabenya people. Just fix the roads and put street lights on the transitions to Atomic Down roundabout and you’re good to go.

‘There’s a road that connects North Legon to Academic City and Ashongman Estate that’s very close to Musuku roundabout… when fixed, it will reduce the nasty traffic on the Haatso road.’

Court Rules On Hanan Charges Today

A High Court in Accra will today determine an application filed by former Chief Executive Officer of National Food Buffer Stock Company Limited (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, asking it to strike out the charge sheet that initiated the criminal proceedings against him and his wife.

He contends that the charges levelled against him by the Attorney General are vague, ambiguous, duplicitous and renders a fair trial impossible, as well as violate his fundamental human rights as an accused person under the constitution.

Mr. Aludiba is standing trial with his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, for allegedly stealing and causing financial loss to the state totalling GHS62.6 million.

Moving the application yesterday, his lawyer, Godfred Yeboah Dame, argued that the charge sheet is what invokes the court’s jurisdiction in criminal proceedings of this nature.

According to him, it is therefore imperative that the charge sheet be prepared in accordance with the prescriptions of the law and where it is demonstrated that the charge sheet fails to satisfy the mandatory requirements stipulated in Article 19(2) (d) of the constitution as well as Section 109 and 112 of Act 30, the charge is bad in law and unfit to commence a trial and therefore, has to be struck out.

He said the charges levelled against the accused person are deficient as they do not state the specific details of the offences with which his client is charged with, to enable him understand the import of the offences and to adequately prepare for his defence.

Mr. Dame pointed out that the prosecution has combined a number of distinct offences into one charge against the accused person, and this again violates his right to a fair trial since he is deprived of a clear understanding of the nature of charges preferred against him to enable him adequately prepare for the trial.

‘The prosecution has charged offences arising out of the same series of transaction, the same facts and the same sums of money composed of the offences of stealing and defrauding by false pretences which we contend is untenable in law and undermines the right of the first accused person to a fair trial,’ he argued.

He told the court that the defence is not asking for evidence to be adduced in support of the various charges from the prosecution.

Highlighting the offence of stealing for instance, Mr. Dame said the prosecution states such a broad time frame for the commissioning of the offence by stating that the offence took place between February 2017 and February 2025.

‘What makes it fundamentally flawed is that the sum of GHS50 million seems to have arisen out of an aggregate of different transactions and the prosecution admitted to this in the affidavit in opposition,’ he said.

Mr. Dame added that ‘lumping the charges together into one count without even stating the number of transactions, when each of them occurred, how the stealing of sum occurred and expecting first accused to contest the charges at trial is like folding the eye of a boxer and tying his hands at his back and expecting him to box in the ring. That is unfair.’

Opposition

The application was opposed by Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, who argued that Article 19(2) (d) of the Constitution is clear that the requirement is to inform the accused person in a language that he understands, and the Supreme Court has explained this to mean ‘in ordinary language.’

He contended that the particulars of offence is not the place for evidence as it is merely to give sufficient information to the accused person, and this is exactly what Section 112(1) of Act 30 said.

‘It is therefore, completely misconceived to require that particulars of offence or the charge sheet should contain every detail, including how the accused person even committed the offence. Our contention is that every single count has sufficient information to enable the accused person, if he is so capable, to put forward a defence,’ Dr. Srem-Sai argued.

On the issue of charging two different offences in respect of the same act or transaction, he pointed out that Section 157 of Act 30 specifically makes provision for this issue of defrauding by false pretences and stealing, because of the closeness in the ingredient.

‘The court is empowered to even when stealing alone is charged to convict on defrauding by false pretences. What it means is that the court cannot convict on both. But that is a different contention that a prosecutor cannot charge him,’ the Deputy Attorney General added.

Elikplim Commissions Renovated Taifa KG Block

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome-Kwabenya, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, has commissioned a newly renovated kindergarten (KG) block at the Taifa Community School on Tuesday July 21, 2026, as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning and create a conducive environment for early childhood education.

The renovation project was fully sponsored by Imperial Homes through its Imperial Charity Foundation.

Addressing the gathering, Mrs. Elikplim Akurugu expressed profound appreciation to Imperial Homes and its Imperial Charity Foundation for partnering with her to improve educational infrastructure in the constituency.

She described education as one of the pillars of her development agenda and reiterated her commitment to investing in initiatives that would improve the quality of education for children across Dome-Kwabenya.

‘I sincerely thank Imperial Homes and the Imperial Charity Foundation for responding positively to our call to renovate this kindergarten block. This project demonstrates what partnerships between the private sector and public institutions can achieve for our children,’ she stated.

The MP noted that beyond the renovation of the Taifa Community School KG Block, her office has undertaken several educational interventions across the constituency.

According to her, these include the distribution of desks to schools, the supply of exercise books to pupils, the presentation of mathematical sets to Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates, the renovation of the Kwabenya Senior High School library, the provision of financial support to students entering Senior High School, the payment of school fees for needy students through the Elikplim Scholarship Scheme and the distribution of school uniforms to deserving pupils.

She assured residents that education would remain a top priority of her office.

The Ga East Municipal Chief Executive, Edmund Agboh, commended the initiative and urged both teachers and pupils to take good care of the renovated facility.

He emphasised that maintaining the classroom block would ensure that future generations also benefit from the investment.

‘This facility belongs to all of us. Let us protect it, maintain it properly and use it to provide quality education for our children,’ he advised.

The Municipal Director of Education for Ga East, Eric Sey, also expressed appreciation to the MP and Imperial Homes for supporting education in the municipality.

He assured the gathering that the Education Directorate would ensure the renovated facility is properly utilised and maintained to enhance teaching and learning.

‘We are grateful to the Member of Parliament and Imperial Homes for this intervention. We assure you that this facility will be put to good use to support the education and development of our children,’ he said.

In separate interviews, some heads of schools praised the MP for her continued investment in education.

Madam Dorcas, a headteacher, described the renovated block as a major boost to early childhood education, saying it would provide a safer and more comfortable learning environment for pupils.

Morris Andrew Quaye, another headteacher, commended the collaboration between the MP and Imperial Homes, noting that such partnerships were essential in addressing infrastructure challenges in public schools.

The Headmaster, Godfred Tenkorang, also expressed gratitude to Mrs. Akurugu for what he described as her numerous educational interventions within the constituency.

He said the renovated KG block would significantly improve teaching and learning while demonstrating the MP’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of school children.

The commissioning ended with a tour of the renovated kindergarten block amid excitement from pupils, teachers and community members.

FIFA Women’s Football Campaign Empowers Girls In Tumu

The initiative brought together girls, community members and key stakeholders for an interactive event that combined football activities with educational sessions focused on personal development and well-being.

One of the major highlights of the programme was a session on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), where participants received guidance on making informed choices, maintaining good health and accessing reliable information and support services.

The maiden edition was described by teachers and students as ‘an inspiring and beautiful experience’ that brought classroom literature to life.

One Kid Is Okay For Me – Fella Makafui

Actress and socialite, Fella Makafui, has shared her thoughts on parenthood, saying she prefers to have only one child.

Speaking during a TikTok Live session, Fella said her decision is based on the kind of life she wants to provide for her daughter, Island, whom she shares with rapper, Medikal.

According to the actress, she wants to be financially stable enough to give her child the best opportunities, including the freedom to travel and pursue her dreams without limitations.

‘I don’t see the point of having a lot of kids. That’s no shade to anyone who has more than one, but that’s just my preference. One is okay for me. The kind of life I want for my child and myself, I don’t want to give birth for the child to come and suffer,’ she said.

Fella stressed that her opinion is a personal choice and not a criticism of parents with larger families.

She also encouraged women to take their time before becoming mothers, advising them to be emotionally and financially prepared for the responsibilities that come with raising children.

Alex Scott Rejects Bournemouth Contract As Premier League Giants Circle

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has rejected a new contract offer, intensifying speculation over his future despite the club’s firm stance that the England Under-21 international is not for sale.

The Cherries had made securing Scott’s long-term future a priority this summer, but negotiations have failed to produce an agreement. The 22-year-old still has two years remaining on his current contract.

Several Premier League heavyweights, including Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Chelsea, are monitoring the midfielder’s situation.

Arsenal previously had an approach for Scott turned down by Bournemouth earlier this summer.

Despite the growing interest, Bournemouth remain determined to keep the former Bristol City star.

The club has reiterated to the player and interested teams that Scott will remain at the Vitality Stadium, regardless of his decision to reject the latest contract proposal.

Bournemouth are under little financial pressure to sell after qualifying for the UEFA Europa League and raising substantial funds from the sales of Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, Illia Zabarnyi and Dango Outtara last summer.

Scott is currently with the squad at the club’s pre-season training camp in Austria under new manager Marco Rose as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign.

The midfielder joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2023 for £25 million after winning the Championship Young Player of the Season award.

Since then, he has made 89 appearances, scored six goals and played a key role in helping the Cherries secure a historic sixth-place finish and their first-ever qualification for European football.

His performances have also earned him international recognition, with Scott receiving his first England senior call-up last year, although he is yet to make his debut.
