Talented Ghanaian rapper known for his drill music, specifically in the Asakaa genre, Yaw Tog, born Thorsten Owusu Gyimah, has opened up on how his music friends have abandoned him since his career took a nosedive.

Yaw Tog, who gained popularity with hits like ‘Sore’ and ‘Can’t Stop’ featuring Sarkodie, in an interview with Headless YouTuber, stated that his rise in the early stage of his career was met with numerous mistakes.

According to him, one of his biggest missteps was allowing too many people into his close circle when he first gained nationwide attention with ‘Sore’.

‘My worst experience is allowing too many people to also be in the spotlight with me when ‘Sore’ was on, but now those people them no dey around anymore (sic),’ Yaw Tog shared.

He revealed that a lot of people have since disappeared from his life, emphasising how fame often attracts temporary relationships.

‘Not the guys who were on ‘Sore’ with me specifically, but everybody that came around me at the time. It’s something that I would say I’ve regretted. I don’t even get a call from them anymore,’ he added.

Yaw Tog concluded by saying that although the experience was painful, he has come to accept it as part of the realities of the entertainment industry.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has projected that Ghana’s debt-to-GDP ratio will reach 59.1 percent by the end of 2025.

The forecast, contained in the October 2025 Fiscal Monitor Report, was released during the IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C.

According to the report, the projection is slightly lower than the government’s 60 percent target for the same period. The IMF further expects Ghana’s debt ratio to decline to 56.1 percent in 2026, 53.7 percent in 2027, and 51.3 percent in 2028, suggesting that by 2028, the country will outperform the 55 percent debt-to-GDP benchmark set under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) Programme.

In its World Economic Outlook released on October 14, 2025, the IMF also forecasted that global economic growth will slow from 3.3 percent in 2024 to 3.2 percent in 2025, and further to 3.1 percent in 2026, despite a slight upward revision from its April projections.

The Fund noted that the global economy is being reshaped by new policy measures and trade dynamics, with some temporary boosts expected from fresh trade agreements and tariff adjustments introduced in early 2025.

‘Advanced economies are expected to expand by about 1.5 percent, while emerging markets and developing economies will grow just above 4 percent, reflecting resilient domestic demand in Asia and parts of Latin America,’ the IMF stated.

It added that global inflation is projected to continue easing, though it remains above target in the United States and subdued in several other regions.

The Ashanti Regional Commander of Prisons, Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) Ing. James B. Mwinyelle, who also doubles as the Officer in Charge of the Kumasi Central Prison, has described the increase in the daily feeding rate for inmates from GHS1.80 to GHS5.00 as ‘a wonderful development’ that will significantly enhance the welfare of prisoners across the country.

In an exclusive interview with DAILY GUIDE in Kumasi on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, DDP Mwinyelle said the long-awaited adjustment in the feeding rate was a major step towards improving conditions in Ghana’s prisons, where the previous rate had remained unchanged for many years.

‘The increase from GHS1.80 to GHS5.00 is a big jump, and it will go a long way to improve the quality of meals served. Feeding is one of the topmost welfare issues, and once that is taken care of, the health of the inmates will improve, and the pains of imprisonment will be lessened a bit,’ he noted.

He revealed that the Kumasi Central Prison, which currently houses over 1,600 inmates, has already begun revising its food menu to ensure that prisoners feel the full benefit of the increase.

‘It will not be business as usual. We are now preparing a new menu to include rice, beans, and groundnuts to meet nutritional and protein requirements. We even hope to serve eggs once a month or every other week,’ he disclosed.

To complement the improved diet, DDP Mwinyelle said the prison administration was expanding its vegetable garden at Bekwai Roundabout to reduce costs and supplement meals with fresh produce.

‘Our Director General, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, has directed that every prison establishment should have a garden, and here in Kumasi, we are already cultivating vegetables. We plan to expand so that a portion of the GHS5.00 will go into carbohydrates, while the vegetables will balance the nutrition,’ he explained.

He further expressed gratitude to the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, and the Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service for their instrumental roles in securing the increase.

‘The Interior Minister has shown great commitment from day one. He told us he would take us out of the ‘orphanage,’ and indeed, we are beginning to see that transformation,’ he said, and also commended the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene for his support.

DDP Mwinyelle cautioned that inadequate feeding often contributes to disturbances and health challenges within prisons, emphasising that the new rate would help maintain calm and improve overall welfare.

Think Prison 360 Initiative

Touching on the Think Prison 360 Initiative launched earlier this year by the Ghana Prisons Service, DDP Mwinyelle said the project aims to reshape public perception of prisons as reformation centres rather than dumping grounds.

‘The initiative is a reset agenda for the Ghana Prisons Service. It reminds society that the prison is not a place to dump people. When the state fails to invest in reforming inmates, everyone becomes unsafe,’ he remarked.

He appealed to relatives, philanthropists, and the general public to continue supporting the prison system through donations, partnerships, and advocacy to sustain reforms and improve inmate welfare.

‘The increase in feeding rate is a major step forward, and we are exceedingly grateful to the government. But as Oliver Twist, we will always ask for more-perhaps GHS10.00 next year,’ he concluded with optimism.

Prudential Bank has kicked off its breast cancer screening campaign in Takoradi, marking the first of five screenings scheduled across the country this month.

Over 300 women participated in the event held at the Church of Pentecost premises at Kwesimintim with the aim of raising awareness on breast cancer.

Head of Brand at the Bank, Jamilla Disu, said ‘the screening is part of our annual initiative to promote breast cancer awareness and encourage people to check for early detection. We believe that early detection is key to saving lives.’

She indicated that similar screening exercises will be conducted in Accra, Tema, Kumasi, and Tamale, providing essential health services to communities across the country.

‘Last year, the Bank screened over 1,200 individuals, with 327 screened in Tamale alone. This year, our target is to exceed this number. The beauty of it is that we are visiting the same centres we undertook the exercises last year. This way, those who benefitted previously have the chance to be checked again,’ Ms. Disu disclosed.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women worldwide, with over 2.3 million new cases diagnosed globally each year. Men are at risk as well even though it is more prevalent in women. Early detection and treatment can significantly improve outcomes and survival rates among the population.

In Ghana, breast cancer is a significant health concern, with many cases being diagnosed at advanced stages.

Six people, including a month-old baby, sustained gunshot wounds after a man identified as Kofi Cole allegedly fired shots indiscriminately during a celebration at Kwabenakwa in the Obuasi East Municipality on Tuesday.

The tragic incident, reportedly, followed a court ruling on the Kwabenakwa chieftaincy dispute, which went in favour of one of the rival families. In the heat of jubilation, some members of the victorious faction took to the streets in a tricycle (Pragyia), firing gunshots into the air to express their excitement.

According to ABN’s Senior Correspondent, Chukwu Joseph, eyewitnesses and some relatives of the victims confirmed that the gunfire came from Kofi Cole, who is said to be related to one of the winning family members. Stray bullets struck six bystanders, including the baby, leaving the community in shock and panic.

The Assembly Member for Kwabenakwa, Mr. Charles Abu, in an interview, expressed deep concern over the incident. He said he rushed to the scene upon hearing the gunshots and assisted in transporting the injured victims to the hospital for treatment.

He described the act as reckless and called on the police to ensure that justice is served.

Police have since launched investigations into the matter, while residents of Kwabenakwa have appealed for calm as the victims receive medical attention.

Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Eugene Nobel, on Tuesday officially welcomed participating regional teams to the maiden U-15 Elite Girls Championship at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

In his address, Mr. Nobel encouraged the young players to make the most of the platform to display their skills and reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to advancing women’s football development across the country.

‘On behalf of President Kurt Okraku, it’s my pleasure to welcome you to this historic maiden U-15 Girls Championship,’ he said.

‘This marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s women’s football, showcasing immense talent and potential. The GFA remains dedicated to providing opportunities for young talents to shine, learn, and grow.’

Mr. Nobel expressed appreciation to GFA President Kurt Okraku for his leadership and vision, which, he noted, had made the championship possible. He further urged the players to see the tournament as a stepping stone in their football journey.

‘This championship is about talent identification, skill development, and representing your regions with pride. Seize this opportunity to showcase your abilities, create memories, and build your future in the game,’ he added.

The U-15 Elite Girls Championship forms part of the GFA’s broader initiative to nurture young female footballers and strengthen the foundation of women’s football in Ghana.

A MAN in charge of a new 2018 Toyota RAV4 vehicle, who decided to help another man by giving him a lift from one destination to another, has sadly ended up losing his car to theft.

Isaac Kwadwo Awuah, the unsuspecting victim, was said to have offered a lift or ride to a middle-aged man at Asuofua Polar Junction to Kumasi around 5:30am on October 11, 2025.

In the course of the journey, the unknown middle-aged man somehow managed to rob the unregistered vehicle from its owner and he has since absconded with the vehicle.

The distraught owner of the vehicle later on the same day reported the car snatching incident to the Bohyen Police in Kumasi, who have since started searching for the ‘thief’ to face the law.

‘On October 11, 2025, at approximately 0815 hours, Isaac Kwadwo Awuah of Asuofua New Site, accompanied by his wife, Margaret Awuah, reported that at 0530 hours, he was robbed of his 2018 Toyota RAV4 (pencil color, dark Ashh) by a middle-aged man whom he had given an assistance by way of a lift at Asuofua Polar Junction (Prison junction) to town.

‘Upon receiving the complaint, the District Commander, District Crime Officer led a team to the scene, reconstructed the incident, and circulated lookout messages’, Bohyen District Police Sitrep said.

The report noted that the District Commander and a team of police personnel have embarked on patrols in an effort to arrest the suspect and retrieve the stolen vehicle from him, but the suspect has still eluded arrest.

According to the statement, which the DAILY GUIDE has sighted, the police has informed the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) about the theft to prevent the thief from registering the stolen car. It will be difficult to trace the car if the thief manages to register it.

‘Stringent measures have been put in place to tag the chassis number in the DVLA and Customs systems to prevent potential registration as the car is unregistered’, the police statement indicated.

There was excitement at Makola Market in Accra when Reverend Samuel Yaw Essel, a 52-year-old former banker and minister, received the grand prize of GHS1.2 million to climax the Telecel 2Moorch Money Promo.

The Kumasi-based pastor beat millions of subscribers to emerge winner and become Ghana’s newest millionaire, concluding a four-month nationwide cash rewards campaign by Telecel Ghana.

Throughout the promotion, the company rewarded over 14,000 customers with a total of GH?4.5 million in daily, weekly, and grand draw prizes. Each draw was independently supervised by the National Lottery Authority (NLA) under its Caritas platform to ensure fairness and transparency.

For the recently ordained pastor, the win was nothing short of divine.

‘Two weeks before the call came, I had a dream. I saw my late father holding a bag full of money. He said he came to give it to me. When I woke up, I prayed and wrote it in my diary. I didn’t know how God would do it, but He did,’ Rev. Essel recalled.

After more than two decades in banking from First Allied Savings and Loans to Okomfo Anokye Rural Bank, Rev. Essel resigned in 2022 to pursue full-time ministry.

He now pastors at the Great Commission Church International and operates a microcredit business in Kumasi.

‘I entered a covenant with God. I was struggling to complete a building project and told Him that if He helped me, I would give back to His work. This prize is an answered prayer,’ he said, adding that he plans to use the money to complete his home, expand his business, invest in his children’s education, and fulfil his tithe pledge.

According to Aneth Muga, Director of Consumer Business at Telecel Ghana, the promo celebrated customer loyalty and the Ghanaian spirit.

‘The 2Moorch Money Promo has shown that opportunity can reach everyone, everywhere,’ she said.

The NLA’s Bright Ofori commended Telecel for its transparency, while the company recalled that last year’s More Money Promo produced another millionaire, Ellen Oparebea Akoi, a nursing student.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Agona District in the Western Region, has embarked on an exercise to remove and replace unauthorised or fake meters at Benso in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality.

During the exercise, 170 unauthorised meters were removed, 90 new service connections installed, and 41 already regularized fake meters replaced. In total, 300 single-phase meters were installed.

This followed the Agona District’s observation of a growing proliferation of unauthorised meters across several communities within its operational area. The initiative forms part of the region’s goal to reduce system losses by 4 percent this year.

To facilitate the process, the Agona District of ECG set up a customer service desk equipped with the necessary logistics to remove and replace the unauthorised meters.

The Acting District Manager, Ing. Godwin Yao Yabameh, described the exercise as an exceptional example of customer service delivery to the people of Benso.

He said the activity was carried out after extensive engagement with the chief, opinion leaders, and Assembly Members of the community.

Ing. Yabameh explained that the infiltration of unauthorised meters was causing commercial losses and affecting revenue generation.

‘Therefore, with the support of management, the district visited the Benso community to explain the effects of fake or unauthorized meters and to encourage residents to apply for new service connections,’ he said.

He added, ‘Benso is about 54 kilometres from the Agona main district office. Therefore, bringing our services to the doorstep of customers and installing meters within a day is worthy of commendation.’

The Regional Commercial Manager, Emmanuel Sam, commended the initiative, noting that it would enhance customer engagement and improve service delivery.

He added that ECG fully supports the removal of unauthorized meters from its network as part of efforts to reduce system losses.

In a related development, the District Manager for Bogoso, Ing. Benjamin Dodoo, also undertook a similar exercise, during which about 500 unauthorized meters in the Prestea Bondae, Asikuma, and Jakpa communities were replaced.

The General Manager, Ing. Emmanuel J. Ofori, expressed his satisfaction with the initiatives and pledged management’s continued support to provide the necessary logistics and materials to curb the proliferation of unauthorized meters within ECG’s network.

‘We are working closely with the police to root out those who install these fake meters in our system,’ he stated.
