Gov Sani Approves 70% Salary Increase For Kaduna Tertiary Institutions

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has approved the implementation of 70 percent of the 2024 CONPCASS/CONTEDISS salary structure for staff of all state-owned tertiary institutions.

The implementation takes effect from October 2025.

The approval followed a crucial meeting between the governor and leaders of the Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions (JUTIKS), leading to the suspension of a month-long strike.

The meeting, held at the Government House Kaduna, was facilitated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kaduna State Council, and attended by representatives from institutions such as Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, the College of Education Gidan Waya, and the Kaduna State College of Nursing and Midwifery.

The unions had embarked on an industrial action on September 30, 2025, demanding the implementation of the 2009 CONPCASS/CONTEDISS structure, improved retirement benefits, and general welfare for staff.

At a joint press conference after the meeting, union leaders praised Governor Sani’s leadership, transparency, and commitment to education and workers’ rights as captured in a statement jointly signed by NLC Kaduna Chairman, Comrade Ayuba Suleiman; JUTIKS/ASUP Chairman, Comrade Usman Shehu Suleiman; JUTIKS Secretary General, Comrade Shuaibu Dauda Adamu; COESU Chairman, Comrade Nuhu Yerima Christopher; NASU Chairman, Comrade Mahmud Aliyu Kwarbai; and Academic Staff Union Chairman, Comrade Daniel Danboyi.

They confirmed several key outcomes that include 70 percent implementation of the 2024 CONPCASS/CONTEDISS salary structure for academic and non-academic staff, and approval of 65 years as retirement age and 40 years of service policy for non-teaching staff.

Daily Trust gathered that before the approved new salary structure, most of the junior lecturers received N64,000 monthly after all deductions.

A junior lecturer at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic who prefers to speak anonymously said his take-home pay before the increment was N64,000.

Phone Snatchers Kill Nurse In Zaria

A nurse with Gambo Sawaba General Hospital, Kofar Gayan, Zaria, has been killed by assailants who attempted to snatch her mobile phone while she was returning home.

The deceased, identified as Hadiza Musa, was the deputy head of the hospital’s maternity unit.

Confirming the incident, her husband, Hamza Ibrahim Idris, who works in Abuja, said his wife was attacked around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday while on a commercial motorcycle.

‘On Saturday, she called to tell me she was going to the salon to get her hair done and also visit an Islamic chemist at Filin Mallawa, Tudun Wada, Zaria. I agreed and sent her some money. Our last call was after she left the chemist’s shop a little past 6 p.m., but afterward, I couldn’t reach her line,’ Idris recounted.

He said he kept calling her phone until the next morning, assuming the battery had run down. Idris, who said he fainted from shock upon hearing the news, explained that his wife was attacked by hoodlums riding in a tricycle (Keke Napep) while she was on her way home.

‘When her body was found, there were bruises on her hands, suggesting she struggled to hold on to her phone. She was also hit on the head, which caused bleeding and likely led to her death,’ he said.

According to him, the attackers dumped her body by the roadside near Mallawa Eid Ground in Tudun Wada. Good Samaritans reportedly took her to a nearby clinic before she was referred to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika, where she was confirmed dead.

Idris said the late Hadiza died barely three months after losing her sister, whose three children she had adopted. ‘She is survived by her three biological children and the three adopted ones,’ he added.

Abdulkadir Balele Wali, Secretary of Gambo Sawaba General Hospital, described Hadiza as a dedicated and professional nurse who was committed to saving lives.

He said her death was a great loss to the hospital community, noting her hard work, compassion, and commitment to duty.

Efforts to reach Mansur Hassan, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

How To Score The Best Travel Discounts During Black Friday

The holiday shopping season is upon us, and for savvy travelers, that means one thing: incredible deals on flights, hotels, and vacation packages. Black Friday, in particular, has become a goldmine for scoring deep discounts on travel. If you’re looking to book your next adventure without breaking the bank, here’s how to take advantage of the best black friday travel deals.

Start Your Research Early

Don’t wait until the last minute to start hunting for Black Friday travel bargains. Begin your research a few weeks in advance to get a sense of typical prices for your desired destinations and travel dates. This will help you recognize a truly great deal when you see one. Sign up for email newsletters and follow your favorite airlines, hotels, and travel websites on social media to stay in the loop about upcoming sales.

Be Flexible with Your Travel Plans

Flexibility is key when it comes to scoring the best Black Friday travel discounts. If you’re open to traveling on less popular days, like midweek or during shoulder season, you’re more likely to find lower prices. Consider alternative airports, too – sometimes, flying into a nearby city and renting a car can be more cost-effective than insisting on a specific airport.

Compare Prices Across Multiple Platforms

Don’t assume that the first great deal you see is the best one available. Take the time to compare prices across multiple booking platforms, including airline and hotel websites, online travel agencies, and deal aggregators. Remember to factor in any additional fees or taxes that might not be immediately apparent in the advertised price.

Act Fast, But Read the Fine Print

Black Friday travel deals can be incredibly tempting, but it’s essential to read the fine print before clicking ‘book.’ Limited-time offers can sell out quickly, so if you see a price you like, be prepared to act fast. However, make sure you understand any restrictions or blackout dates that might apply, as well as the cancellation and refund policies. The last thing you want is to be stuck with a non-refundable reservation that doesn’t fit your needs.

Look for Package Deals

Airlines, hotels, and travel agencies often bundle their services together into package deals during Black Friday sales. These can offer significant savings compared to booking each component separately. Keep an eye out for packages that include flights, accommodations, and even rental cars or activities. Just be sure to compare the total cost of the package to the prices of booking each element individually to ensure you’re getting a true bargain.

Consider Vacation Rentals and Alternative Accommodations

While hotels often offer deep discounts during Black Friday sales, don’t overlook the potential savings of booking a vacation rental or alternative accommodation. Websites like Airbnb, VRBO, and HomeAway frequently offer their own holiday deals, which can be especially cost-effective for larger groups or longer stays. Plus, opting for a rental with a kitchen can help you save on dining out during your trip.

Don’t Forget About Travel Rewards

If you collect points or miles through a travel rewards credit card or loyalty program, Black Friday can be a great time to put them to use. Many loyalty programs offer discounted award bookings or bonus points promotions during the holiday shopping season. If you have a stash of rewards saved up, consider using them to stretch your travel budget even further.

In conclusion, Black Friday is an incredible opportunity for travelers to score deep discounts on their next adventures. By starting your research early, staying flexible, comparing prices, reading the fine print, looking for package deals, considering alternative accommodations, and leveraging travel rewards, you can take advantage of the best Black Friday travel deals and turn your dream trip into a reality. Happy bargain hunting!

APC Responds To Daily Trust Editorial ‘APC Should Learn From History’ – A Sordid Display Of Editorial Bias

The All Progressives Congress (APC) considers the editorial of the Daily Trust of today, Monday, October 20, 2025, ‘APC Should Learn From History’, as displaying extreme bias, daftness, journalistic recklessness, and peddling untruths designed to malign APC.

In that piece, the paper concluded that the action of state governors dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joining the APC ‘portends a dangerous trend towards the erosion of multi-party democracy and a descent into a despicable one-party state’. However, it failed miserably to explain how the exercise by the governors of their constitutional freedom of association and democratic liberty to choose among competing party alternatives threatens the country’s multiparty democracy or signifies a descent into a system of one-party state.

The paper postulated that citizens’ right to associate with any political organization must be exercised ‘within the bounds of the law,’ but failed to identify the law that prohibits governors from quitting the party platform on which they were elected and joining another party of their choice. The paper didn’t cite it because such a law does not exist.

That governors, as candidates, are sponsored by political parties does not and cannot extinguish their constitutionally guaranteed freedom of association or democratic choice to enter and exit from any political association or party. If that was ever the intendment of the framers of our Constitution, it would be clearly and expressly so stated, and not left to Daily Trust’s warped conjecture. Like other political parties in any democracy, APC is well within its authority and function to welcome citizens who desire to join by subscribing to its membership. There is no rule of law that prohibits a political party from receiving new members who subscribe to its membership. There is no law or democratic norm that sets a limit to the number or that defines the category of citizens who may or may not join a political party. There is also no law or democratic norm that imposes a duty on a political party to become a gatekeeper to decide who may be admitted to membership of the party. Certainly, there is no law that dictates a limit to the number of governors or other elected officials that may join any political party. If such a law exists, Daily Trust failed to reference it in their mercenary editorial.

Beyond its rabid allegation that APC was seeking to enthrone a one-party state, Daily Trust’s Editorial was grossly bereft of reason, objectivity and rationality. It was clearly based on the vile intent of its editors serving as a repeater station of the opposition’s senseless screams. How do you even coerce or cajole governors to dump their party and join another? Governors occupy some of the highest political offices in the country. They are the chief executive officers of their states and bear the mandate of their people to govern. They have authority and control over the vast resources of their states. Again, Daily Trust did not tell Nigerians the nature of the influence APC has brought upon the governors to coerce or cajole them to dump their party and join the APC.

The defections from opposition parties to our Party deliver a damning indictment of their failed leadership, dysfunction and lack of internal democracy. Defections in Nigerian politics are neither new nor one-sided. Prominent former APC members like Rt. Hon Rotimi Amaechi, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, Abubakar Malami, John Oyegun, Rauf Aregbesola, Solomon Dalong Dalong, and Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (Rtd.) have joined other parties like ADC. Similarly, notable PDP members, including Atiku Abubakar, retired Capt. Tunji Shelle, Muritala Ashorobi, Dr. Abimbola Ogunkelu, and Sir Rowland Owie have defected to ADC. Opposition leaders like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi are Nigeria’s most itinerant defectors but remain the most vocal objectors to defections to APC.

Daily Trust and other opposition actors claiming that defections to APC threaten democracy are inconsistent and mischievous. Similar defections to other parties have not sparked the same concerns. In the paper’s perspective, defections to APC are a threat to democracy, but defections from APC to opposition parties advance democracy. That double standard is glaring, invidious and unacceptable.

Daily Trust’s editorial position betrays its poor understanding of the idea of democracy. Democracy is a system of freedoms. You cannot advance democracy by abrogating basic freedoms that are intrinsic to democracy, without which democracy would be meaningless.

One-party state is not created by anyone’s wishful thinking. It is not created by Daily Trust’s acerbic discomfort over the rising profile of APC as Nigeria’s preeminent Party of choice. Instituting a one-party system would require an extensive and far-reaching constitutional and legislative reform that is both undesirable, unrealistic and, arguably, unattainable. A total of about 19 political parties are registered and remain active in our multiparty democracy.

It is a mark of crass irresponsibility for Daily Trust to peddle falsehoods, conjectures and outright deception as editorial material. While its editors have the freedom to form and express their editorial opinions, they bear a corresponding duty to uphold time-tested values of responsible journalism in the public interest.

Our great party and the administration of President Bola Tinubu remain resolute in the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda focused on improving the quality of lives of our people, and building a stronger and more prosperous nation for all.

Kanu Opens Defence, Lists Wike, Umahi, Buratai, Others As Witnesses

Hours after Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and former Presidential Candidate, led some protesters in parts of Abuja demanding freedom for the detained leader of the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, the separatist leader agreed to enter his defence.

The detained IPOB leader had last Thursday filed a motion of preliminary objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court to continue with his trial.

He filed the objection the same day a team of medical experts enpanelled by the court to determine his health status, turned in a report that he was medically fit to stand trial.

In a fresh motion he personally filed on Tuesday, October 21, Kanu assured the court that he was prepared to begin his defence ‘pursuant to the order of this honourable court made on the 16th day of October 2015, directing the defendant to commence his defence on the 24th day of October 2025.’

Kanu informed the court, presided by Justice James Omotosho, of his plan to call a total of 23 witnesses divided into two categories.

The first category, he said, would be those he called ‘ordinary but material witnesses’.

He further informed the court that his second category of witnesses would be ‘vital and compellable’ and shall be ‘summoned under Section 232 of the Evidence Act, 2011.’

In the notice Kanu personally signed, the IPOB leader told the court that, in view of the number of witnesses he intends to call, the court should consider granting a 90-day timeframe to enable him conclude his defence.

He told the court that he would ‘testify on his own behalf, providing a sworn account of the facts, denying the allegations, and explaining the political context of his statements and actions.’

Among those Kanu listed as ‘compellable witnesses’ are a former Minister of Defence, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), a former Chief of Army Staff, Gen Tukur Buratai (rtd), as well as Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Hope Uzodinma, Governors of Lagos and Imo States respectively.

He further listed current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Nyesom Nwike, his Works’ counterpart, Dave Umahi, and the immediate past governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.

He also listed the immediate past Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, the immediate past Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA, Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, his then-collegue at the State Security Service, SSS, Yusuf Magaji Bichi, and several withnesses whose identities he didn’t reveal.

Kanu, in the notice, promised to ‘provide the sworn statements of all voluntary witnesses to this honourable court, and to notify the prosecution within a reasonable time.’

He assured that ‘no precious time of the honourable court would be delayed,’ stressing, ‘and it would interest the honourable court that and the general public that justice is not only done but manifestly seen to have been done.’

Kanu’s motion offering to open his defence came on the same day a

magistrate court in Abuja ordered the remand of his special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor and 12 others who were among those protesting against Kanu’s continued trial.

The police charged the 13 persons with various offences, including criminal conspiracy, disobedience of a lawful order, inciting disturbance, and disturbance of public peace, contravening sections 152, 114, and 113 of the Penal Code Law.

The 13 defendants named in two separate first information reports (FIRs) are Ejimakor, Kanu’s brother, Emmanuel, Joshua Emmanuel, Wilson Anyalewechi, Okere Kingdom Nnamdi, Clinton Chimeneze, Gabriel Joshua, Isiaka Husseini, Onyekachi Ferdinand, Amadi Prince, Edison Ojisom, Godwill Obioma, and Chima Onuchukwu.

The magistrate, who stood down the case, later ordered that the defendants be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until October 24 for arraignment.

’Why NNPCL Revenue, Oil Production Dropped In September’

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has stated that it generated N4.26tr revenue in the month of September.

This is a decrease from the N4.40trn it generated in August and this is due to the reduction of crude oil the company produced during the month which dropped to 1.61m barrels per day consisting of 1.37m (bpd) of crude oil and 240,000 condensate.

However, its profit after tax increased to N216bn from the N185bn it made in August.

It added that it made statutory payments from January to August to the tune of N10.073tr. while 6.28bn (mmscf/d) natural gas was produced.

‘Production levels during the period were temporarily moderated due to planned maintenance activities including those at NLNG alongside the phased recovery of previously shut-in assets and delays in the commencement of operations at OMLs 71 and 72.’

It added that there is sustained focus on the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipeline being directed towards completion of the mainline works with substantial progress being recorded.

On OB3 (River Niger Crossing), it said the implementation of revised execution strategy is underway to ensure delivery within target timelines.

The 113km portion of OB3 Gas Pipeline has been commissioned and flowing circa 300mmscf/d of gas from the following gas producers: *AHL – 250mmscf/d *Platform, Chorus and Xenergi – 50mmscf/d.

.shortfall linked to upstream assets maintenance

Credible industry sources say NNPC Limited has embarked on a series of scheduled maintenance activities across key upstream assets, including facilities linked to the Nigeria LNG (NLNG) network.

These planned interventions, which also coincide with the phased recovery of previously shut-in fields and the onboarding of new assets, are part of a broader strategy to optimize output and enhance infrastructure reliability.

While recent production levels reflect a temporary moderation, industry insiders view this as a necessary recalibration to ensure stronger performance in Q4 and beyond.

‘You don’t build resilience by pushing volume only, you build it by maintaining integrity of your assets,’ one senior regulatory official noted.

With most of the maintenance now nearing completion, stakeholders anticipate a rebound in crude and gas volumes as systems come back online, according to some officials.

The move also underscores NNPC Limited’s proactive approach to asset stewardship and its role in sustaining industry-wide collaboration for production recovery.

Rather than a setback, this phase marks a strategic reset- one that positions Nigeria’s energy sector for more consistent and secure output in the months ahead.

There are concerns that the trend might continue this month following the strike embarked upon by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) over its issue with the Dangote Refinery.

The NNPCL GMD, Engr. Bayo Ojulari had indicated that Nigeria lost 200,000 barrels per day of crude oil to the recent strike action embarked upon by the nation’s oil workers, culminating in a total of over 600,000 barrels during the three-day supply disruption.

The GMD said, ‘I think it was unfortunate that the Dangote and PENGASSAN issue led to strike and whenever there is strike and critical staff manning critical facilities are not available and optimum production is almost impossible. In this particular case, we actually lost significant production of over 200,000 bpd that was deferred.

‘We also have gas production that was deferred, we also have power generation that was impacted by about 1.2 megawatts of power that was affected by that strike,’ he said.

Ojulari added: ‘I’m very pleased that the federal government through the leadership of the Minister of Labour and full support of the National Security Adviser was able to put together everyone into a dialogue and brought everybody to the table and now there has been a communiqué that has been agreed on the way forward.

‘We are all very hopeful that everyone will abide by the communique, since then we have been able to return production back to status quo, there has been one or two areas that we are still trying to catch up with. Overall, we have gradually gone back to restore lost production and the deferment that we have as of today,’ he added.

Ojulari further stated that Nigeria has been able to step up crude oil production with effect from last month, saying 1.68 million barrels per day were produced in September, 2025 while 7 billion cubic feet of gas was also produced per day during the same period.

.Reps move to resolve Dangote Refinery, PENGASSAN face-off

Even as the crisis between The House of Representatives on Tuesday resolved to wade into the recent face-off between the management of Dangote Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), which recently resulted in a strike action that disrupted operations at the $20 billion refinery in Lagos.

The decision followed a motion of urgent national importance jointly sponsored by Alhassan Ado Doguwa (APC, Kano) and Abdussamad Dasuki (PDP, Sokoto) raised on the floor of the House, where the lawmakers expressed concern over the implications of the industrial action on Nigeria’s oil production, fuel supply, and investment climate.

Doguwa, who moved the motion, noted that the strike, which disrupted activities at the refinery located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, led to an estimated loss of about 200,000 barrels of crude oil per day over a three-day period.

He added that the shutdown worsened the already fragile fuel supply situation across the country, causing scarcity and long queues at filling stations in several states.

The lawmakers described the Dangote Refinery as a strategic national asset with the potential to ensure energy security, reduce import dependence, generate employment, and conserve foreign exchange.

They further observed that the refinery, being situated within a Free Trade Zone, falls under the regulatory authority of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), in line with Section 18(5) of the NEPZA Act, which stipulates that employment within such zones shall be governed by the rules and regulations of the Authority and not by general labour laws.

The lawmakers expressed concern that labour actions that ignore these legal provisions could discourage future local and foreign investments, create instability in the business environment, and undermine national economic growth.

Consequently, the House resolved to urge the leadership of the House, under Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, to wade into the matter and facilitate a peaceful resolution between PENGASSAN and the management of Dangote Refinery.

.Only dialogue will resolve issues

Ibenanaowei of Ekpetiama Kingdom in Bayelsa State, Nigeria and Chairman of Bayelsa Traditional Rulers’ Council, King Bubaraye Dakolo reiterated that dialogue is imperative to resolve any issue between the management of the refinery and the unions.

According to him, the birth of the refinery sounded a death knell to those he called ‘subsidy racketeers.’

‘The real oil thieves are not in the Niger Delta but the subsidy racketeers,’ he said, adding that efforts must be geared towards making existing refineries to work.

He said, ‘You cannot have a group of people somewhere earning billions every year for literally doing nothing. If for close to 20 years, our refineries have just been there in name and not producing anything and apart from that, they have gulped about N18bn, so what are they there for?

‘So the right thing has to be done, which is what I call the needful. Let those who are responsible do what Nigerians would consider a responsible action.

‘Apart from that, change must come and change has come in Dangote refinery and those who are interested in change would also do something similar somewhere.’

Detained Ansaru Commanders To Know Fate Nov 19

A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 19 for the continuation of the trial of Ansaru leaders, Mahmud Usman and Abubakar Abba, charged with terrorism.

Justice Emeka Nwite adjourned the matter on Tuesday after the counsel to the Department of State Services (DSS) was announced to be absent from the court.

In a letter to the court, the lawyer apologised and requested a new date.

The judge had at the last hearing on September 11 sentenced one of the defendants, Mahmud Usman, to 15 years’ imprisonment for illegal mining.

Usman, also known as Abu Bara’a, who was arraigned by the Department of State Services (DSS) after his recent arrest, pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal mining activities for arms acquisition and kidnapping.

Usman, who hails from Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State, was arrested alongside Abubakar Abba, alias Isah Adam or Mahmud Al-Nigeri from Daura, Katsina State. They were arraigned on 32 charges bordering on terrorism.

Following the plea of guilty to count 10, which is on illegal mining, the trial judge, Justice Emeka Nwite, convicted and sentenced him on the count and ordered his remand in DSS custody pending his trial for 31 other charges preferred against him by the service.

In the charges, the defendants were alleged to have committed acts of terrorism in 2022 by attacking Wawa Cantonment of the Nigerian Army in Kainji, New Bussa, in the Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, which led to several deaths.

Tinubu Extends Tenure Of Surveyor-General

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the extension of the tenure of the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Mr AbuduGaniyu Adebomehin, by two years.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

Onanuga said the extension, which takes effect from January 5, 2026, was necessitated by the recent transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGOF) to the Presidency.

He said the Surveyor-General has already initiated reforms across critical sectors of geospatial data systems, which the President is keen to see completed.

The President expects Mr Adebomehin to consolidate the reforms within the next two years, focusing on national land management and administration, highways and abutting land infrastructure coordination, reclamation and erosion control programmes, and other related matters of strategic national importance.

Adebomehin was appointed the Surveyor-General of the Federation (SGoF) by the late President Muhammadu Buhari on January 5, 2022.
