A woman, Ganiyat, has dragged her husband, Tajudeen, before Grade A Customary Court, sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking that her union with the latter be dissolved on the account of lack of care and threat to her life.

Ganiyat stated that Tajudeen showed her no care or attention, adding that he was always on her neck.

The plaintiff also said that the defendant informed her that he wanted to take a new wife and threatened to kill her if she refused to move out of his house.

Ganiyat pleaded for custody of their last two children and also appealed that the court made her husband responsible for their upkeep.

The plaintiff also prayed the court to grant her free access to the three other children staying with her husband.

Tajudeen did not make an appearance in court despite being served court summonses.

Ganiyat said in her evidence that, ‘My husband did not pay my bride price like other men did, yet he refused that I had rest of mind.

‘He stopped been a loving and caring husband a long time ago.

‘I have always remained faithful to him and committed to his welfare, but he is never appreciative of me.

‘My husband rather than show me love and affection took to threatening me.

‘He always finds fault in all that I do and will fight me.

‘He threw me out of our bedroom and I moved into our children’s room which was obviously not convenient for them.

‘I did all that was possible to avoid having a clash with my husband but he refused that I be.

‘He woke up one day and ordered that I moved out of his house. According to him he wanted to take a new wife.

‘He threatened to kill me if I refused to leave.

‘I pray the court to end our relationship and grant me custody of our last two children.

‘I also beg the court to mandate my husband to be responsible for their upkeep.

‘I further entreat the court to grant me free access to the three other children living with my husband.’

The president of the court, Mrs S.M Akintayo, adjourned the case.

Kalu to Otti: Credit Tinubu for ensuring funding of projects in Abia, South-East

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu has urged Abia State government and the South-East region to give credit to President Bola Tinubu for ensuring that funds were made available for execution of projects.

Speaking during the commissioning of projects in Aba, Abia State on Friday, Hon. Kalu who represents Bende Federal Constituency of the State commended Governor Alex Otti for his efforts in enhancing the State’s infrastructure, calling on the governor to give due recognition to President Tinubu for his contributions to the region.

He said: ‘As you know, I am not a member of your party. I am a member of APC. But when it comes to development, it is important that citizens remember that we were first citizens of this state before we became political party members.

‘And if you love your state, irrespective of the political party of your governor, you must find a way to work with that governor to succeed. It is not my first time of extending this magnanimity. It is in my character to associate with the governors of my state.

‘I did it with Governor T.O. Orji. I did it with Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and my brother and friend, Dr. Otti who was my friend before he became governor.

‘There is no reason he will invite me on a special day like this and I will not leave Abuja to be here. Governance is about partnership. The state must partner with the federal government and the federal government must partner with the state.

‘As the Deputy Speaker, I represent the people of the South East. Abia is part of South eayst. And if I have been with Mr. President, visiting Enugu who is not a member of APC and Anambra who is not a member of APC, there’s absolutely no reason I will not identify with my Governor in my own state.

‘I have gone with him from morning, visiting all the projects till this evening. I have seen the State’s projects carried out by the governor and for that, we commend him.

‘But as a member and citizen of this state, I request that the governor, like Oliver Twist, we need more and also as a federal lawmaker and a leader in this country, I want us to be very vocal in praising the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on how he has made resources available to the states in the Federal Republic of Nigeria when he removed the oil subsidy.

‘He did not keep that money in Abuja. He sent it to the States. It is my challenge to the commissioner for information and all the media houses in Abia State, please give credit to whom credit is due.

‘The ones the President has done and the ones he has assisted, please make sure all Abians know that the President is supporting the governor of Abia state. It is important because it is the philosophy of the Igbos that if you thank a helper, he will do more. If we need more from the President, we must give the true credit to the President so that he will release more for governor Otti to do more for Abia state.’

Hon. Kalu also appealed to the President who was represented by the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi to consider establishing a seaport in the South-East region, saying it would boost trade and economic activities in the area.

‘Mr. President, Sir, we want to thank you as Abians for what you are doing in our State through our governor and what you’re doing around the South East. Mr President, we need another port in the South East. Southeast are traders. We need a port so that our trading will be enhanced’, he said.

The Deputy Speaker also urged the President to intervene in the demolition of properties belonging to Igbo residents in Lagos State, urging the Lagos State Government to allow them to regularize their documents.

‘Mr President, I also want to say that the destruction and demolition of the houses and offices of our brothers in Lagos makes our heart bleed. Mr. President, for some of them who have not gotten the right documents, my plea to you is to appeal to the governor of Lagos state to keep accommodating our brothers and please allow them to rectify their documents instead of destruction.

‘Let them come into the room and find a way and regularize some of these documents. It bleeds our heart that within this hard time that houses are being destroyed but I know that Mr President who cares for the Igbos, who made the Igbos one of the first commissioners of finance in his administration will listen to the hearing of the Igbos’, Hon. Kalu pleaded.

A Sharia Court in Kaduna, Kaduna State, has dissolved a two-year-old marriage between a couple, Harira Sanusi and Aliyu Yunusa.

The judge, Malam Salisu Abubakar-Tureta dissolved their marriage following a petition for divorce filed by Harira.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Harira accused Aliyu of calling her parents names and humiliating her.

‘He will often throw out my suitcases and other belongings.

‘He seized my wedding gifts and humiliates me,’ she said.

She prayed the court to order Aliyu to allow her access to her belongings.

On his part, Aliyu who did not deny the allegations apologized to her in court.

Aliyu granted the request of Sanusi and made one pronouncement of divorce to her.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has explained why he has never attempted to convince his wife, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, to convert to Islam, stressing his belief in love, religious freedom, and mutual respect among people of different faiths.

Speaking on Saturday at the funeral service of Nana Lydia Yilwatda, mother of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwada, Tinubu said his marriage to a Christian pastor has never created any conflict in their home.

The president, who arrived in Jos, Plateau State around 2 p.m. for the ceremony at the COCIN headquarters church, said he inherited Islam from his family and has always upheld the principle of freedom of religion.

He noted that both he and the First Lady serve the same God and would ultimately be answerable to Him, adding that what matters most are people’s deeds, character, and love for others.

Tinubu urged Nigerians to embrace tolerance and peaceful coexistence, emphasising that hate should never have a place in the country.

He also prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Lydia Yilwada and asked God to grant comfort and blessings to those she left behind.

He said, ‘Hate is not an option for us. Love is what you preach, that we should love one another.

‘Nobody, nobody determines what God has ordained. God’s ordained action and his promises are what matter. I inherited Islam from my family. I didn’t change. But my wife is a pastor. She prays for me.

‘No conflict. And I never did at any single time try to convince her or convert her. I believe in the freedom of religion.
