The Ayatutu Cultural and Social Development Initiative (AYACASODI) has raised concern over what it described as a renewed move by the Taraba State Government to displace Tiv communities in Wukari Local Government Area under the pretext of establishing a Military Forward Operating Base (FOB).

In a statement signed by its National President, Chief Timothy Baaki, the group accused the government of attempting to erase Tiv settlements through the allocation of large portions of their ancestral land for the project.

According to the statement, government officials led a delegation to Ikyaior and Jandekyula communities on September 27, 2025, where they announced that 150 hectares of land from each community had been designated for the military facility.

AYACASODI condemned the move, alleging it was ‘a deliberate effort to dispossess the Tiv people of their ancestral lands under the guise of a Military Forward Operating Base (FOB).’

The statement reads: ‘The Tiv people of Taraba are not against the establishment of military facilities for peacekeeping purposes but designating 300 hectares of land in the aforementioned Tiv areas for a Military Forward Operating Base is a clear plot to evict the people from their ancestral lands, using the noble image of the Nigerian military as cover. This is highly condemnable and unacceptable.

‘We value and respect the Nigerian Armed Forces. However, the process in question is shrouded in injustice, exclusion, and hidden motives. A FOB does not require 150 hectares of fertile farmland, covering large compounds. This excessive land grab is suspicious, unjustifiable, and unacceptable.

‘At the outbreak of the Jukun-Tiv crisis, the Taraba State Government deployed the military to Tiv villages such as Tor-Iorshagher, Tor-Musa, Kyernum, Zegeate, and Tse-Daa in Wukari LGA. Rather than acting with fairness, impartiality, and professionalism, the military openly allied with the Jukun and have persistently resisted any attempt by the rightful landowners, the (Tivs) to return home.

‘The same situation is true in Ibi LGA, where Tiv villages like Ibua, Danwanzan, Gidinwaya, and Gidan-Gboko have suffered similar injustices. Today, with Ikyaior and Jandekyula being the only surviving Tiv villages, Jukun leaders are seeking to use state power to completely evict their inhabitants.

‘In April 2025, a similar attempt was resisted. The resurfacing action a confirmation that Taraba state government is desperate planning to evict the Tiv people from Taraba state.

‘Since April 2019, over 320 Tiv villages have been destroyed, with more than 280 still deserted. Instead of facilitating the safe return of these IDPs, whose number is estimated at over 280,000 people across Taraba State, the government is rather plotting to seize more land. This is a direct assault on the survival, identity, and dignity of a people.

‘We wish to as a group demand that the Defence Headquarters and all military authorities should immediately halt this plan and prevent the misuse of the Nigerian Armed Forces for ethnicity and political purposes.

‘The federal government and all relevant agencies should call governor Agbu Kefas to order to stop the weaponization of state power for ethnic domination.

‘We demand that any discussion regarding land for military operations in the aforementioned areas, all Tiv leaders and stakeholders must be fully and fairly involved. Humanitarian agencies should be urgently mobilized to provide relief, resettlement, and reintegration of Tiv IDPs who have endured six years of pain, neglect, and injustice.

‘The Nigerian military is the pride of our nation, a symbol of unity and justice. Its image should not be allowed to be dragged into a shameful plot of ethnic cleansing.

‘We therefore call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Assembly, the Defence Headquarters, the National Security Adviser, and all relevant authorities to act swiftly and decisively, as the survival of the Tiv people of southern Taraba is at stake.’

When contacted, the Special Adviser to Governor Agbu Kefas on Media and Digital Communication, Hon. Emmanuel Bello, confirmed the development but declined to comment further, referring inquiries to the Wukari Local Government Chairman, Hon. Dauda Samaila.

Efforts to reach Hon. Samaila for clarification were unsuccessful as calls and messages to his phone were not answered.

Dark thighs are caused by melanin, a pigment that gives colour to the skin. Various skin disorders often come with hyperpigmentation. Acanthosis nigricans is one of such conditions that causes skin discolouration, which also affects the neck and armpits. A fungal infection around the groin area can cause darker thighs.

5. Contraceptive pills

Contraceptive pills and other hormonal medications can change the complexion of your inner thighs or make it darker.

Treatments

There are various ways you can eliminate discolouration of your inner thighs. You can opt for home remedies, medications, or creams.

1. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera can help you reduce dark areas on the skin. All you need to do is rub it directly, but you don’t necessarily rinse off after application.

2. Retinoids

You can use retinoid-based products to suppress your hyperpigmentation. The result might not be quick; it could take several months before any difference.

3. OTC products

Over-the-counter products in rubs, ointments, and creams can help reduce the appearance of dark inner thighs. You can look out for moisturizers that contain vitamin B-3, ellagic acid, and any natural substance ingredients.

The Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) has launched the 2025 edition of its Transparency and Integrity Index (TII), aimed at strengthening accountability and openness across Nigeria’s public sector.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by Mr. Aliyu Umar, Head of Strategic Communications at the BPSR.

Speaking during the launch, Mr. Dasuki Arabi, Director-General of the Bureau, described the Index as a critical instrument for measuring ethical conduct, transparency, and integrity within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

‘This annual event remains one of the most important platforms for promoting transparency, accountability, and integrity within our public institutions,’ Arabi said.

He explained that the Transparency and Integrity Index ‘is not just about numbers or rankings; it is about building a culture of openness and responsibility that inspires public trust.’

Now in its fifth edition, the Index assesses how government institutions comply with established transparency standards across five key areas – financial management, control of corruption, open procurement, citizens’ engagement, and human resource inclusion.

According to Arabi, the 2025 assessment was conducted in collaboration with the Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Public Integrity (CeFTPI), marking another milestone in the Bureau’s drive to improve governance outcomes.

He noted that the initiative aligns with the National Strategy for Public Service Reforms (NSPSR 2021-2025), reinforces the Freedom of Information Act, and supports Nigeria’s commitments under the Open Government Partnership (OGP).

‘It also complements the work of anti-corruption agencies such as the ICPC and the EFCC, while reflecting Nigeria’s obligations under the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC),’ Arabi added.

The Director-General praised the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, development partners, and other stakeholders for their continued collaboration in advancing public sector reforms.

‘Together, we are building stronger institutions for a more accountable and prosperous Nigeria,’ he said.

Since its inception, the Transparency and Integrity Index has served as a benchmark for measuring performance and guiding reforms within the public sector. It continues to provide valuable data that informs policy decisions, strengthens institutional accountability, and encourages MDAs to uphold higher standards of governance.

The Index, according to BPSR, remains one of the agency’s flagship initiatives, symbolising its commitment to ensuring that transparency, integrity, and ethical behaviour become integral parts of Nigeria’s public administration culture.

Tobiloba Amusan riled the lords of the Nigerian athletics community recently. By her video on Nigeria’s kits for the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025, she also triggered the country’s sports fraternity as well as those Nigerians who are conversant with sports administration in the country.

Tobi Amusan – our current best foot forward in athletics – did a bold asko o (a way some children and women in Ibadan shrug their shoulders in defiance) to the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) with that video. Through that video – the first of its kind from usually reserved Tobi Amusan – was her way of saying ‘I don’t care anymore’ to whatever her action might lead to.

Miss Amusan also didn’t care how the AFN officials might decide to fume over her video. And I think this is because, through her talent and years of hard work, she has rightfully earned her place at the table of Nigeria’s untouchables. Beyond working her way to that level of becoming an untouchable, she is also, in a way, the favourite among millions of Nigerians – a favourite untouchable.

But she is one untouchable in the positive sense of the concept – in the sense of thinking aloud or saying boldly that the AFN officials and their ilk must not ruin our only medal hope in the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo with their shenanigans.

We had only just recently lost Favour Ofili from our quiver of potent sports arrows. The young top talent dumped Nigeria for Turkey just a few weeks before the Worlds. She had a very bumpy ride with our athletics lords of the manor and decided she had had enough.

Amusan, in that video of hers with the accompanying commentary, said all that needed to be said: Nigerian sports administrators have refused to learn. And she is quite right. She made the video look like a jolly ride – a casual cruise through the turbulent ocean of painful realities our sports men and women face at every opportunity to sail. Favour Ofili could not weather the storm, just like many other Nigerian athletes who also switched allegiance from Nigeria with some painful memories.

But Miss Tobi Amusan chose to speak, stand up, and fight because she has risen to a height where the ruinous hands of our system manned by our athletics lords can no longer touch her. That is one of the reasons she is untouchable, apart from the huge gap her personality would leave in our athletics if anything happened to her.

With her position in our sports, especially with the fretting Nigerian population about what just happened with Miss Ofili, Amusan did not just earn her bully pulpit; she also earned a right and the might to point out the correctable wrongs.

The Yoruba liken such untouchables to the household king’s goat (the Baale’s goat). They call them Ashemalu – eranbaale.

While Tobi Amusan thoroughly riled top officials of the AFN, they could only watch just as helplessly as the hungry fowl would mope at the corn in a corked bottle. She indeed rode the moment well and passed her powerful message, regardless of the hurried, haphazard response and face-saving measures the AFN eventually came up with. Interestingly, such was also the kind of response they gave to the searing departure of Favour Ofili from the Nigerian athletics firmament. It was quite typical and seemed like something usually drawn from an annoying template.

Tobi told the world, from far away Tokyo in Japan, some of those things our leaders would not want us to tell even from the corners of our abodes in Nigeria. Embedded in her message are those embarrassing situations we face daily, and which are often muted with questions like ‘Are you the only one?’ We are hushed so as to keep our collective mortification away from outsiders or non-family members. The Yoruba refer to such a situation as egbòilé. But Tobi Amusan refused to make this occasion one of egbòilé.

She spoke up and compared what Nigeria’s athletes received as competition gears in Tokyo 2025 to what other countries’ athletes were given, although her message carried much more meaning than just that. Her verdict also is devastating! She made a video of our athletes’ kits to the Worlds while laughing at the laughable kits and sneered openly at the despicable offering.

Perhaps, Miss Tobiloba Amusan must have been bottling that burden for a reasonable period of time. She only had to let the bubble burst this time. Those Nigerian athletes who could not bear it, and who are not in a position to pull the ears of our lords in sports administration like Miss Amusan could, just decided to quit to find solace elsewhere. Unfortunately, that list of disgruntled Nigerian athletes is rapidly growing by the day. Nothing is being said about it right now. Nothing is being done about it right now. Nigeria and Nigerians would only rise when another Tobiloba Amusan-like episode happens. No lessons from the long past. No lessons from the immediate past exemplified by the Tokyo 2025 held from 13 September 2025 to 21 September 2025.

The AFN has moved on from the letdown in Tokyo. They have clinked glasses to celebrate Tobi Amusan’s lone silver medal and taken solace in the glimmers from the budding talents. They also celebrated the records set by others, especially Ezekiel Nathaniel’s new national record in the 400 metres hurdles. They are not inspired by the surge of Botswana, the meticulousness of Ethiopia, and the staying power of Kenya. We have silenced our planning drums and folded our thinking mats. We are now back to debating owambe and owanbe, blind-sighting serious issues until they sweep us off our feet.

We celebrated the last WAFCON and the girls’ exploits on July 27, 2025. We hailed and cheered the squad and described the girls’ win as historic and unprecedented. We are right about all of that. We were also happy because of the happy ending which erased all the blot that had stained the processes that led to that momentous victory. Like the safe delivery of a much-desired healthy child, the end justified all the means of preceding troubles.

But did anyone remember that the kits meant for that WAFCON got to the girls only at the quarter-finals of the competition? Their kits were delayed at the Moroccan customs after they arrived in the country late. We have forgotten that our girls made a show of the makeshift kits they had to use at that major tournament.

Just like in the case of Tobi Amusan and the Tokyo 2025 kits, which the AFN said were on their way, the NFF too ran from pillar to post to battle the Super Falcons’ revelation and only got the kits at the quarter-finals of the tournament. What if the Super Falcons had been eliminated earlier?

These common scenarios are what Miss Amusan and many Nigerians are trying to constantly point out about our sports and sundry national life. Not many expect officials to answer the salient questions. But they must be asked anyway. Why do the kits arrive late? How come the necessary plans are not made as and when due? Why do we always end up in such situations?

Why don’t we punish such embarrassing national malaise? One of the best crops of Nigeria’s U-17 boys failed to qualify for the World Cup not because they were not good, but because an NFF official failed to bring the boys’ passports to Ibadan where the match was played. Who was that official, and was there a penalty?

The flagship of our national sports teams, the Super Eagles, once played an official international match in hurriedly cut-to-size shorts from their tracksuits. Who brought us that national shame? What happened afterwards?

For the 2026 FIFA World Cup, our Super Eagles are currently dangling precariously at the precipice. If we fail to qualify, that would be the second consecutive time. Africa is guaranteed to be represented by nine countries in that tournament, up from the current five representatives. Yet, Nigeria, Africa’s sports powerhouse, is heading towards the exit door of the qualifiers!

Why must we perpetually live as a country of reactions only, and willfully choose to stand against proactive actions? Our life as a country is replete with examples of reactions to everything we ought to have proactively taken care of. I think we should use our tongue to count our teeth!

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Dr. Olumuyiwa Sylvester Adu, popularly known as Cubana, in this interview by Sam Nwaoko, speaks on the party in Ondo State, his political ambition to represent Ondo Central in the Senate, among other issues.

What informed your decision to contest to represent Ondo Central district in the Senate?

I want to represent the people of Ondo Central because of my burning desire to serve my people. I want to use the opportunity to thus contribute my quota to the development of my native Ondo Central, the people, and humanity in general. The entire communities in Ondo Central need to be heard and seen the more, and I believe with my representation, the communities would be positively impacted.

Secondly, I want to serve my people because there is a more urgent need to bring federal presence to Ondo Central senatorial district, and there is also the need to woo investors to the area, both foreign and local, with the natural resources in our senatorial district and Ondo State at large.

Among other things, we have also observed the need to sponsor meaningful and people-oriented bills that would have direct bearing on our people. Supporting reasonable bills sponsored by others in the Senate is also one of the ways through which our people would derive maximum benefits from my being in the National Assembly.

In addition, there must be strategies through which we can support unemployed youths, and those who are qualified would be supported to secure appointments. Those who are traders in our various markets as well as artisans, students, and farmers would also benefit from our constituency projects’ allowance, and we hope to also use the same allowance to complement the efforts of Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa in the area of infrastructural provision for our people.

Then one other area is to ensure that we are constantly visiting our people in my senatorial district through which there would be dialogue that would help us recognise their areas of needs. These are just some of the things we intend to look into, in addition to the primary role of lawmaking, which is the core duty of the senator in the National Assembly.

How would you describe Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa with regards to his various activities so far as the governor of Ondo State?

Governor Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa has been acknowledged to be a workaholic governor who has already turned Ondo State towards the direction of progress. Apart from his persona and his transparency in his day-to-day administration of the state, people have seen him to be highly intelligent and very friendly with everyone. He has set various goals for his administration, and we can all see that he has settled into the duty of achieving these goals.

No one can question his desire to see a strong and virile All Progressives Congress (APC) in which all of us would be happy and achieve targets. On his achievements so far in Ondo State, Governor Ayedatiwa has completed most of the projects of his predecessor and leader, the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (Aketi). Aside from that, he has also embarked on many other projects, most of which he has succeeded in completing.

Ayedatiwa deserves kudos in the area of infrastructural provision, healthcare delivery, agriculture, education, social services, workers’ welfare, and security, among others. Since we know him not to take unilateral decisions, but always carry his people along in whatever actions he takes, I will say that he is going to solidify APC in Ondo State. Generally, his administration has been so peaceful and acceptable to the people of Ondo State.

What is your impression of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu?

Just like Governor Ayedatiwa, President Bola Tinubu too is also performing. President of the World Trade Organization and former finance minister and coordinating minister of the economy in Nigeria, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, commended President Tinubu by saying that the economy of Nigeria is now stable. For example, the targeted internally generated revenue for this year 2025 has already been met in August this year.

The fuel subsidy that he removed has started yielding positive results in the country. Its dividends are now being used for the development of infrastructure and the improvement of agriculture as well as the provision of student loans in institutions across Nigeria.

Kudos should also be given to President Tinubu for the increment in the states’ and local governments’ monthly allocations, which has made the dividend of democracy trickle down to every home in Nigeria. He has also done well in attracting foreign investment to Nigeria so as to further boost our economy.

So, generally, I will say that the future is brighter, and we must trust and support Tinubu to sustain the tempo.

The family of the late former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, has renewed its call for justice over his sudden and controversial death.

The Akingboye/Betiku family, who made this call after a meeting held in Okitipupa, headquarters of Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state, expressed sadness over the incident and reaffirmed confidence in the government and the police to unravel the mystery surrounding his death.

In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the family described the late businessman as a man who rose from humble beginnings to become a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist, but lamented the circumstances surrounding his death.

Family sources said the late Akingboye was last seen by his eldest son, Mr Samuel Akingboye, who visited him a day before his death.

He explained that the son, Samuel, who resides partly abroad, said he and his father had agreed to meet again the following day before the tragedy occurred.

He, however, explained that the 68-year-old businessman was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his Lagos residence.

He disclosed that the body of the late politician was reportedly discovered near the backyard leading to the boys’ quarters, with visible bruises on his face and arms, and blood-stained clothes.

According to him, at the time of the incident, the deceased’s second wife, Mrs Christianah Akingboye, four of her children, two of her siblings, and about 13 domestic staff were said to be at home with him in the compound.

Unconvinced by explanations from the household, Samuel reportedly petitioned the Lagos State Police Command, prompting the transfer of the case to the Homicide Department at Panti, Yaba, while several individuals, including family members and domestic workers, have been interrogated.

A Police source said forensic examinations and an autopsy report are being awaited to determine the exact cause of death, but the police have yet to issue a formal statement on their preliminary findings.

Meanwhile, the family commended Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for his intervention and assurance that justice would not be compromised.

In a letter jointly signed by the heads of the two families, Papa Clement Betiku and Pastor Akintemi Michael Akingboye, the family thanked the governor for showing concern and pledged support for a transparent investigation.

The letter addressed to Aiyedatiwa read: ‘On behalf of the entire Akingboye/Betiku extended family, we write from Okitipupa to commend and wholeheartedly appreciate the governor’s leadership and commitment to ensuring that justice is done. Justice must be served without fear or favour, and no attempt to cover up this case will be tolerated.

‘The family is deeply concerned and determined to see this matter through to its logical conclusion. We reaffirm that whoever is found to have had a hand in this grievous act will not escape both the wrath of God and the due process of law.

‘Likewise, any attempt by anyone, in any form, to cover up the truth will be met with the stiffest resistance from the family and from all lovers of justice.’

The family also lauded the Nigeria Police Force for its swift response and professional handling of the investigation, urging the command to pursue the case to a logical conclusion.

‘We also acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly through the Homicide Department at Panti, Yaba, Lagos, for their commitment, physical analysis, and scientific approaches deployed so far in the investigation.

‘However, we urge that no stone should be left unturned until the real cause of OBA’s death is unravelled and justice is transparently and conclusively served.

‘As a family, we remain unwavering in our resolve to ensure that the mystery behind his sudden passing is exposed and that justice is done in honour of his memory, in the interest of the state, and for the sake of posterity

‘We once again commend and back Your Excellency for your intervention and continuous commitment to justice. May God grant you wisdom and strength as you steer Ondo State forward in fairness and truth,’ the statement added.

Until his death, Akingboye was a prominent politician in the state, businessman and philanthropist with investments in real estate, oil and gas, and agriculture.

His death has continued to attract public attention and debate as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding it continues.
