A Japanese company focused on providing assisted reproductive technology or fertility treatments will expand its services in the Philippines. This is through its upcoming facility housed within the Filinvest Group’s office building in Muntinlupa City.

Filinvest REIT Corp. (FILRT), the real estate investment trust unit of Filinvest Land Inc., on Monday, announced the entry of Conceive IVF Manila in its Filinvest One Building.

Conceive IVF is under Japan’s Kato Medical Group. It also has another fertility facility in Makati City.

‘This marks a significant step in further expanding and diversifying our tenant portfolio to include the sphere of health and wellness,’ FILRT president and CEO Maricel Brion-Lirio said in a statement.

‘This collaboration also reflects our dedication to offering spaces that cater to the evolving needs of various industries,’ Lirio added.

Conceive IVF managing director Kenki Okumura said the new facility would enable the company to ‘deliver enhanced fertility care and create a supportive environment for individuals and families in South Metro Manila.’

The Kato Medical Group has been offering assisted reproductive technology services for over 30 years, the company said on its website.

This comes as part of FILRT’s goal of diversifying its tenant mix.

In June, FILRT welcomed the Qatar Airways Group. It will set up its first Philippine office, also within Filinvest One.

Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island remained under Alert Level 2 on Tuesday, September 30, as the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported heightened activity over the past 24 hours.

In its latest summary observation report, Phivolcs said that Kanlaon continues to log increased unrest, with 31 volcanic earthquakes recorded from only seven quakes in the previous monitoring period.

Sulfur dioxide emissions – a colorless gas from magma releasing dissolved gases – also rose to 1,141 tons per day from 1,027 tons. Plumes reached 150 meters from the summit before drifting southwest.

Ground deformation is still inflated, which means that the ground around the volcano is swelling or bulging outward.

Alert level 2 remains raised on Kanlaon. This signifies moderate unrest with evidence of magma involvement.

Phivolcs warned of potential hazards, including sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions and possible magmatic activity.

Authorities reiterated that entry into the four-kilometer permanent danger zone is strictly prohibited, and flying any aircraft near the volcano should not be allowed. /das

After nearly two decades together, Hollywood couple Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have separated, despite the former’s effort to save their marriage, according to US media reports.

TMZ reported, citing close sources, that the pair had been living apart since early summer. Urban has spent much of the year on tour, while Kidman has been in London filming ‘Practical Magic 2.’

The outlet reported that Kidman has been taking care of their two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, stating, ‘Holding the family together through this difficult time since Keith has been gone.’

‘Keith has acquired his own residence in Nashville and has moved out of their family home,’ continued the outlet, with other reports stating that the actress has leaned heavily on her sister, Antonia, for support throughout the difficult months.

Multiple media outlets, including People magazine, also reported that the ‘Moulin Rouge!’ actress didn’t want the separation and had been fighting to save the marriage.

Kidman and Urban first met in 2005 at the G’Day USA gala in Los Angeles. They tied the knot in June the following year in a church ceremony in Sydney, Australia.

Back in June, Kidman celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary with a black-and-white photograph of herself cuddling up to Urban, captioning the Instagram post, ‘Happy Anniversary Baby.’

Kidman was previously married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001, during which time they adopted two children, Bella and Connor.

Kidman is known for her award-winning performances in ‘The Hours,’ ‘Eyes Wide Shut,’ ‘The Others,’ ‘Practical Magic,’ and in television series such as ‘Big Little Lies.’

Korean actor Lee Chae-min, star of the hit Netflix series ‘Bon Appetit, Your Majesty’ is set to visit the Philippines, as well as other countries, for a fan meeting.

Details of his fan meet are yet to be announced, but Lee, who stars as the titular King Lee Heon in the series took to Instagram on Monday, Sept. 29, to express his gratitude to the viewers who supported the drama.

Lee also shared behind-the-scenes photos of himself with leading lady Im Yoon-ah.

‘I would like to thank everyone who has loved ‘Tyrant’s Chef.’ I am happy to see that everyone’s hard work has been receiving so much love. Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo ‘Ping’ Lacson explained that his earlier statement that almost all senators in the 19th Congress made at least P100 billion worth of insertions in the 2025 budget was not meant to put his colleagues or the entire Senate on the spot.

Lacson on Tuesday disclosed that at a caucus on Monday, some of his peers expressed concerns that his remarks about budget insertions could affect the whole institution.

‘I can actually feel and understand completely the sentiments expressed by my colleagues, at least the members of the majority bloc during our majority caucus yesterday, so I explained to them that the mention of ‘almost all senators’ was not intended to put them or the whole Senate on the spot, nor did I have the intention of calling them out particularly,’ he said.

‘The overarching reason for my disclosure or revelation was to point out that we must accept the fact that we are all in crisis owing to the recent anomalies involving the substandard and even ghost flood control projects unearthed in the course of the Blue Ribbon Committee hearings and other similar investigations,’ the senator added.

As chairman of the blue ribbon committee, Lacson is leading its probe into anomalous flood control projects.

Several lawmakers, including Sens. Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero, Jinggoy Estrada, Joel Villanueva, former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, and now resigned Ako Bicol Rep. Elizaldy Co, have been accused of receiving kickbacks from either substandard or non-existent flood control works.

They all denied the allegations.

Lacson expressed hopes his fellow senators would take his recent remarks about budget insertions as a wake-up call.

The clear and overarching message, he said, is to avoid or at least minimize the mangling of the national budget bill especially if it means taking away funds from vetted projects – particularly foreign-assisted ones – in favor of pet projects.

‘This is not about individual senators or congressmen. This is about all of us – a reminder that we must be transparent in doing our jobs because the people are watching us,’ he said in Filipino when interviewed over Net25.

Lacson also reiterated that ‘insertion per se is not illegal.’

‘An insertion – that’s also called an amendment-an amendment is part of our constitutional mandate, because we hold the power of the purse,’ he explained.

He said they would be remiss in their constitutional duty if they would not review or introduce amendments to the National Expenditure Program or the President’s budget.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday urged the vice governors in the country to unite and help in his campaign against corruption in government.

‘The unscrupulous abuse of power and greed must come to an end,’ the President told the newly elected and appointed officials of the League of Vice Governors of the Philippines (LVGP) during their oath-taking ceremony at Malacañang.

‘Many Filipinos are dismayed because of the piling issues that overwhelm them every day,’ the President said in Filipino.

‘Our people are exhausted, they are disappointed, they are angry. And as I have said before, their rage is valid. It is born from years of frustration at a government characterized by systemic dysfunction and unfulfilled promises,’ he added.

Acknowledging the deep frustrations of ordinary Filipinos, Marcos stated that the people’s dissatisfaction stemmed from years of institutional neglect and the government’s repeated failures to deliver on its promises of reform.

The President urged the local executives not to ignore the public clamor that is growing louder.

‘Let us not dismiss that anger. Let us confront it. Let us be humble and provide concrete solutions,’ he said.

‘We already know what is wrong so we must make it right,’ Marcos added. ‘Reforming our government is the only way we have to win back the trust of our people.’

Congressional inquiries have found that trillions of pesos were embezzled by different government officials and contractors from the thousands of government flood control projects funded by taxpayers’ money.

This resulted in either substandard, or ‘ghost’ (nonexistent) public works projects that have failed in protecting the lives of Filipinos from flooding brought by stronger and greater numbers of successive typhoons and disasters.

Marcos ordered the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to investigate all the anomalous government infrastructure projects in the past 10 years, and recommend the filing of charges to all those involved.

In the past weeks, Filipinos from different walks of life and political affiliations staged demonstrations across the country to condemn what the President himself called to be deeply entrenched and systemic corruption in the government.

As vice governors, they shall be the presiding officers of their respective provincial councils that pass ordinances and resolutions to create programs and policies that will help their constituents.

According to Marcos, although the vice governors come from different provinces and political parties, they should all be united in their commitment to serve the Filipino people.

‘Let us prove that true public service is not about political colors. It is found in the heart, in the conscience, and, most importantly, in action, the President said in Filipino.

‘I know we have it in us to provide our people with the service they rightfully deserve,’ he added.

A magnitude 6.7 earthquake jolted Cebu Tuesday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

In its latest update, Phivolcs said the tectonic earthquake occurred at 9:59 p.m.

Its epicenter was located 17 kilometers northeast of Bogo City, Cebu, at a depth of 10 kilometers. Phivolcs reported the following intensities in affected areas:

Intensity III- San Fernando, CEBU

Intensity II- Laoang, NORTHERN SAMAR

Instrumental intensity IV was also recorded in Cebu City, Cebu, and Villaba, Leyte.

Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Rep. Leila M. de Lima on Tuesday called on the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) and President Marcos Jr. to expedite the selection of the next Ombudsman in light of the ongoing investigations into anomalous government projects.

In a statement, De Lima said the state watchdog post must not be left vacant for too long ‘so that cases can continue to progress, those who should be held accountable can be held accountable, and the people can achieve justice.’

Her statement comes after the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI)’s recommended to the Office of the Ombudsman to file criminal and administrative charges against former Ako Bicol Rep. Elizaldy Co and 17 others over an anomalous flood control project in Oriental Mindoro.

The project was implemented by Sunwest Inc., a company Co founded.

The Ombudsman is also expected to play a greater role in the broader anti-corruption crackdown ordered by President Marcos Jr.

However, as of Sept. 30, Mr. Marcos has yet to appoint an Ombudsman, which has remained pending since former Ombudsman Samuel Martires retired on July 27, 2025.

As of last week, the JBC said it would hold its deliberations on the vacancy ‘in the coming weeks’ instead of last Sept. 19 to give Sen. Francis Pangilinan, the new chair of the Senate committee on justice, time to review the applications.

The current acting ombudsman is Dante Vargas, who so far has ordered the suspension of 16 Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials over their alleged involvement in anomalous flood control projects.

Still, ‘given the extent of the collusion and the number of legislators and government officials involved in the anomalous flood control projects, there is a need for a regular Ombudsman who can truly focus on and respond to the complaints that land in their office,’ De Lima said.

The former justice secretary added that it was all the more imperative for an Ombudsman to oversee the proceedings as the office was expected to receive additional complaints as the ICI investigation progressed.

She expressed hopes that the future Ombudsman appointee would also address the unnecessary and unfortunate dismissal of cases due to inordinate delays in fulfilling its mandate under the Constitution. ‘As the country’s Tanodbayan, the Ombudsman should champion the government’s anti-corruption efforts. It must be swift, serious, and fair in filing solid cases against erring public officials who plunder the nation’s wealth,’ she said.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Regional Office in the Bicol region have imposed a price freeze on all basic agricultural commodities across Masbate province after extensive damage caused by Typhoon Opong (international name: Bualoi ).

In a phone interview on Tuesday, DA Bicol information officer Lovella Guarin said the price freeze aims to ease the burden on affected communities after the storm ravaged major agricultural areas in the island province last Friday.

She said that a total of 1,394 farmers and fisherfolk were affected, with over 1,000 hectares of farmland devastated.

According to the initial assessment, 781 hectares were damaged, while 219 hectares were destroyed. The combined production loss amounted to 1,236 metric tons.

Guarin noted that the rice sector was heavily impacted, with 637 farmers affected and losses totaling nearly 394 metric tons, valued at P5.64 million. The hardest-hit area for rice was Masbate, where 487 farmers reported losses of 256 metric tons, valued at P3.84 million. Other affected provinces include Albay, Camarines Sur, and Camarines Norte.

‘Based on initial reports collected from the ground, about P42.85 million worth of agricultural crops have been lost across the Bicol region so far due to Opong,’ Guarin said
