Chelsea teenager Monroe jailed for life over fatal street stabbing

19-year-old man, Joshua Monroe, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 22 years for the fatal stabbing of 28-year-old Omarkafi Sahal during a fight in Chelsea.

Monroe, of Tadema Road, Chelsea, was convicted of murder on 7 August 2025, following a five-week trial at Isleworth Crown Court. He had earlier pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

The incident occurred at about 9 p.m. on 30 September 2024, when a brawl involving around ten men broke out at the World’s End Estate in SW10. Monroe stabbed Sahal during the altercation, leaving him critically injured.

Despite being rushed to hospital after receiving treatment from paramedics at the scene, Sahal died two weeks later from his injuries.

Monroe was arrested two days after the attack and initially charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. The charge was later upgraded to murder following Sahal’s death on 17 October 2024.

n extensive investigation by Metropolitan Police detectives, involving hours of CCTV review and forensic analysis, identified Monroe as the assailant. The footage revealed the moment he attacked Sahal during the group fight.

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell of Specialist Crime South described the killing as a “senseless act of violence,” adding that the conviction reflected the hard work of officers who swiftly gathered crucial evidence.

“Our thoughts remain with Omarkafi Sahal’s family and loved ones,” Foxwell said. “We hope this sentence brings them some measure of comfort. Knife crime will never be tolerated in London, and we will continue to work tirelessly to remove dangerous offenders from our streets.”

In a statement, Sahal’s grieving family said the sentencing marked the closure of a painful chapter in their lives.

“We have always believed that ultimate justice belongs to Allah alone, and we place our trust in Him,” they said, adding that “This has been the most difficult year of our lives, but we are grateful for the support of our community.”

The Metropolitan Police reaffirmed its commitment to tackling knife crime and serious violence through sustained enforcement and community engagement efforts across London.

Outrage as NFF fails to stream Super Falcons versus Benin match

By Paul Dada

Nigerian football fans have not been able to contain their outrage as they blame the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for to make arrangements for the streaming of the Super Falcon’s match against their opponents from Benin in the WAFCON 2026 qualifying series.

lthough the match, a second leg encounter between the two teams took place on Tuesday at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, no Nigeria TV station was able to broadcast it live.

There were also no live streams on any online platform. Nigerian football aficionados kept visiting different platforms to watch the match but were disappointed. P.M. News checked the CAF Online TV, and the Nigerian Football Federation platforms but nothing was happening on them live.

The NFF Facebook page was particularly woeful as the last post on the platform was put up on October 7. Nigerians blamed the NFF for the worrisome development wondering why they could not watch the match live.

popular blogger/ sports analyst, IfeOluwa Leo-Olagbaye mocked the NFF on her Facebook page. She wrote: “NFF is struggling to stream a match on our home soil, but if it’s $1.2M like this, they know how to stream, sorry steal it. Very incompetent lots.”

fterwards, she put up another post where she wrote: “You are guaranteed watching an away game against Nigeria than a home game because of gross ineptitude of the most hopeless Federation on this planet. Common livestream.”

social media user, Ogunyemi Adekunle Emmanuel wrote: “NFF na the most yeye institution in Nigeria.” Another frustrated Nigerian, Azuma A. Okore, wrote: “In a saner clime some of the people that are occupying the Nigerian football federation (NFF) house are not even qualified to be a high school game master or physical education teacher. Nigerians and Super Falcons fans can’t stream their live match via any streaming platform in their own backyard. This is a national disgrace of the highest order. Something need to be done in order to save our football.”

The match ended in a 1-1 draw but the Super Falcons qualified for the WAFCON on 3-1 aggregate having beaten their opponents 2-0 in the first leg of their encounter.

FG assures farmers of credit facilities to boost agricultural production

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, on Monday, assured farmers of credit facilities to boost agriculture production in the country.

He gave the assurance at a one-day Public Hearing held in Abuja organised by the Senate Committee on Agriculture Production Services and Rural Development.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the hearing was on three bills; “Cassava Flour (Mandatory Inclusion into Flour Production) (Establishment) Bill, 2023.

“The National Food Reserve Agency and for Related Matters and Rice Development Council of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill 2024”.

Kyari who expressed joy over the crash in the prices of food items said that the ministry would look for mechanisms to tackle the high costs of farm inputs.

“I’m happy with the crash of prices, but it’s the inputs that we are working on like fertilizer, irrigation and all that.

“We are trying to find mechanisms where farmers will have access to credit and at the same time cheaper products.

“Prices have crash and consumers are happy but I know farmers are not happy with it. Now what we are trying to do is to try to balance the welfare of the population and the welfare of the farmers.

On post harvest losses recorded, Kyari said they have already made a legacy project on the post-harvest losses, which includes storage at the community level.

“Not the silos that we have that are situated in urban areas, but in community levels. This is what we are driving at.

“We want to make a new harvest silo programme that 85 per cent of the storage will be at those farming community levels to replace those local mud silos,” he said.

He disclosed that Nigeria’s annual demand for maize is about 25 million tons.

Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Saliu Mustapha said the bills have successfully scaled the second reading in the senate.

“They now stand before us for your invaluable scrutiny and contribution”.

Mustapha who also sponsored the bill on Cassava Flour (Mandatory Inclusion into Flour Production) said the bill sought to blend our abundant cassava into wheat production.

ccording to him, the measure will reduce N5 billion dollar annual wheat importation, creating jobs for our teaming unemployed youth and improving the living standard of smallholder farmers.

On his part, Secretary, Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria, Mr Adeyemi Conion who supported the bill said that “it is long overdue”.

He said that the bill when passed, would create job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths.

President, Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), Alhaji Aminu Goronyo said that the bill should explicitly support state-level consultation before individual council decisions were made.

oronyo was represented by his Special Adviser, Muhammad Alibaba.

He said: “We are recommending the introduction of a cross-border mechanisation and system of improving programmes supported by the council in partnership with the local fabricators and private investors”.

Bode George to Lamido: You’ll be punished if you drag PDP to court

A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Chief Bode George, has warned former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, that he risks party sanctions if he proceeds with his threat to take the PDP to court over the sale of nomination forms for the position of National Chairman.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday night, George said Lamido must first exhaust all internal mechanisms of the party before seeking legal redress, stressing that failure to do so would amount to indiscipline.

“The fact that those leaders converged and supported one individual as consensus candidate doesn’t mean other candidates will not compete,” George said. “You know you want to make the process seamless. It’s an internal dynamic. We have done this in the past, but the party has never told anyone not to contest.”

He added, “Sule Lamido has the right to compete. He can go and get the form, fill it, and follow the normal process to appear on the day of the convention. We will vote. But before you take the party to court, you must exhaust the internal dynamics of the party. If you fail to do that, you can be punished.”

eorge maintained that the PDP constitution provides for internal conflict resolution mechanisms that all members must respect to avoid chaos within the party.

His comments come amid mounting tension in the PDP as Lamido continues to accuse top officials of blocking his attempt to purchase nomination forms for the chairmanship race.

Lamido, who arrived at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Monday morning with his supporters, said the relevant offices were “locked” and key officers unavailable to attend to him.

The controversy follows the party’s recent zoning arrangement, which allocated the National Chairmanship position to the North-West, where a section of northern leaders has already endorsed former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki (SAN), as consensus candidate — a decision Lamido has publicly rejected.

The PDP’s elective national convention is scheduled to hold from November 15 to 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Gmail: Google clarifies reports of leaked passwords

Google has denied reports suggesting that millions of Gmail accounts were compromised, describing the claims as inaccurate and based on a misunderstanding of ongoing cyber activity across the web.

Recent reports by some international media outlets, including Daily Mail and Forbes, had reported that a “Gmail password leak” allegedly affected millions of users.

However, Google has clarified that there was no breach of its Gmail systems, insisting that the reports stem from a misinterpretation of standard, ongoing “infostealer” activity.

In a statement sent to PM News, a Google spokesperson said:

“Reports of a Gmail security ‘breach’ impacting millions of users are entirely inaccurate. They stem from a misreading of ongoing updates to credential theft databases, known as infostealer activity, whereby attackers employ various tools to harvest credentials rather than a single, specific attack aimed at any one person, tool, or platform.”

The company explained that these incidents involve cybercriminals using infostealer malware to collect login information from compromised devices and accounts across the internet, not from Gmail’s internal servers.

oogle emphasized that it has multiple security measures in place to protect users and urged account holders to follow best practices for account protection, including enabling two-step verification, adopting passkeys as a safer alternative to passwords, and resetting passwords whenever they appear in large data dumps.

The tech giant added that it has an established process for automatically resetting compromised passwords when large-scale credential leaks are detected.

oogle reiterated that its systems remain secure and that the company continues to monitor and act against credential theft across the web.

“We encourage users to remain vigilant and take simple precautions to secure their accounts,” the spokesperson added.

For more information, Google directed users to its online safety resources on setting up passkeys and recovering hacked accounts.

TroyHealth opens Third pharmacy outlet in Ibadan with rare innovation

By Isa Isawade

TroyHealth Pharmacy on Saturday 26 October 2025 opened its third outlet with drive-through innovation in Ibadan, Southwest of Nigeria.

The newest outlet of the pharmacy, situated on 57, Road1, Akobo Estate, Ajagboju, Ibadan, which was opened with fanfare on Saturday comes with a great innovation of drive-through shopping experience.

Customers who come in ride to the premises do not have to go through the rigours of parking, coming down to walk into the pharmacy, queuing to be attended to and coming out to walk back to their cars. They simply just make order as they drive in via the ‘Drive Thru Entrance’, and before they get to the exit point, they already have their purchases delivered to them.

The pharmacy is what could be regarded as a complete package in the sense that beyond sections for patients’ consultation and pharmaceutical products shopping, there are sections containing other stuff like beverages and household items. It’s more or less a mini hospital embedded supermarket.

lso, the pace of service delivery at the TroyHealth stands it out among peers. According to the Managing Director/CEO of the establishment, Pharm. Tunde Mumini Bakare, time frame to attend to every customer after consultation at the pharmacy is five minutes.

Bakare told newsmen during an interview at the sideline of the program that: “First and foremost, for every minute this place opens, there will be a licensed pharmacist to attend to customers. We will be opening for thirteen hours a day. So, we will have two full-time pharmacists running the place.

“That’s number one. Two, we ensure that all our products are sourced from genuine organisations- wholesalers or manufacturers so that whatever you buy here, you can rest assured that you are buying the right quality and not only that, we ensure that people get value for money. You get it at unbeatable prices.

“Every customer that walks through our door will have an unrivaled experience not only in terms of products, but also in terms of service.

“If you go in you will see that the environment is very ambient, it’s very conducive, well-ventilated and fully air conditioned.

“This is the third outlet we are opening. The fourth one will be opened in December at Ibafo, Ogun State.

“We have also put in place measures to ensure that the goods and services we give to our customers here are of good quality. We source our products either directly from the manufacturers or from licensed distributors or wholesalers. We also ensure that the products are kept in the right storage condition.”

He also informed the audience that the pharmacy does free home delivery. All a customer needs to do is reaching out to the pharmacy through either its telephone lines, email or any of its social media handles to place order, pay for the items ordered and it will be delivered to the customer’s doorstep free of transportation charge.

The pharmacy also has a QR code customers can scan to be directed to a dedicated WhatsApp line through which orders could be made with such items promptly delivered to them anywhere in Nigeria.

Members of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria who were in attendance at the remarkable event confirmed that it was the first time a pharmacy would come with such a package in Nigeria.

ccording to Mr Kolawole Agboola, a roommate of Bakare back in their university days, “This is the first drive-through pharmacy and store in Nigeria. It’s trying to make experience of shopping easy for the customer such that he or she doesn’t have to come out of his or her vehicle. You pay somewhere, collect at the other end and you drive away like that. You know innovation is the key to progress in our lives.

“This idea of drive-through is the first of its kind in Nigeria. It’s a wonderful idea, and I commend him. I’ve been with TroyHealth right from when they started at a rented shop at Idi Ape, Ibadan until they opened the first outlet, the second and now the third.

“I’m so happy for them. They have kept improving to satisfy the customer. I congratulate them.”

How did Bakare come up with such an idea? Agboola said: “You know, Mumini is somebody who is well travelled. Travelling is 50% of knowledge. If somebody travels all over the world, he would know a lot. For instance, if something is done in Ibadan, and somebody goes to Abeokuta, it can be something different there and he would notice that this thing is done differently here, I have to try it in Ibadan. And when he leaves Abeokuta, he goes to Abuja, maybe there is a better way of doing it. There is nothing that is good that cannot be better.

“So, what we are having here is a better way of shopping and I invite people in the environment here, people outside this place to come and see the wonder that TroyHealth is doing here. I’m so happy to be here.”

nother Pharmacist at the event, Ademola Oduniyi, proclaimed: “It’s a beautiful place to be. It’s the third pharmacist in town that Troy will be having. The name, Troy, is synonymous with quality. The practice here is ethical, highest level of ethical practices is what they operate. Pharmacists are fully on ground. The quality of their drugs is fantastic. It’s a place that you are sure of getting the best quality.”

Professor Rasak Adisa from the University of Ibadan, a friend and schoolmate of Pharm. Bakare commended TroyHealth for its high standard of practice.

He affirmed that a lot still need to be done to sanitise the Nigerian pharmaceutical market and urged Nigerians to imbibe the right culture of patronising professionals while seeking healthcare or buying healthcare products.

“As far as the Pharmacy profession is concerned in this country, I know there are a lot of things we still need to do, in terms of sanitising the market to ensure that it is free of fake and counterfeit drugs.

“Now, as clients I will advise that we should try as much as possible to patronize Pharmacy registered persons. If you buy a drug from a pharmacy, you can be sure of tracing the source of the drug to confirm that whatever you are getting is genuine which means when you get to a pharmacy premises you are free to ask to see the pharmacist. As part of the corporate responsibility of a pharmacy, they need to enlighten you. Even if you are not buying anything, you can ask questions from them. It’s their corporate duty to answer you.

“That’s one of the things we actually need to embrace as citizens of this country. As a lecturer- I’ve been teaching students for the pasts twenty-five years. I always tell them that as a pharmacist, present yourself as a professional. You are a professional because people in the community trust you. So, the ethics of professionalism have to be maintained.

“I’ve talked to the pharmacists here (at TroyHealth), I said you have to maintain professionalism skill. That’s the image of the profession. That’s what make people have confidence in whatever you are telling them. That’s what we need to embrace in this country. Though there are some bad eggs among us but once we maintain professional ethic, I think we will be able to address some of the challenges we have,” Professor Adisa said.

With the general notion, whether right or wrong, that the Nigerian business environment is turbulent and unfavourable, why did Bakare commit enormous resources to establish such an ambitious project in the country? His answer is simple: “We just felt our people deserve the best. That’s the main motivation.”

”Stop embarrassing Kogi,” Group warns Yahaya Bello

A group which described itself as Movement for the Emancipation of Kogi State, (MEKSTA), has warned former governor Yahaya Bello to ‘stop embarrassing the state before the eyes of the world.’

The non-governmental organisation said this in a statement it issued in Lokoja the state capital on Tuesday in reaction to Bello’s widely publicised congratulatory message to the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, (COAS), Maj Gen Waidi Shaibu, an indigene of Kogi State.

Bello’s letter bore the imprint of the Office of the Governor Kogi State, complete with Nigeria’s coat of arms, and a silhouette of Bello, placed side-by-side at the top of the page. The action drew widespread criticism and public backlash, which compelled Bello to pull it down from the internet.

MEKSTA noted in its press release: “The world woke up on Sunday, October 26, 2025, to see the viral copy of a congratulatory letter authored by former Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State. While Bello reserves the right to express himself in the public space, we were shocked and embarrassed to find that Bello indeed is still operating as substantive governor of Kogi State, no thanks to his deployment of state stationery and seal of government for his correspondence. We find this illegality and presumptuousness utterly irresponsible, disrespectful, and unconscionable.”

ccording to MEKSTA, Yahaya Bello, by the said letter, displayed “unbridled ignorance and crass indiscipline unbecoming of a former public officer at the level of a governor.”

MEKSTA noted: “Yahaya Bello by his shameful public showing, exposed his gross limitations as a totally inexperienced former civil servant, who happened on power and authority, but failed to learn basic service rules and procedures. This is not unexpected from a man who practically killed the Kogi State Civil Service under his watch, rendering it totally powerless and irrelevant. Irregular payment of workers’ salaries, increment, leave bonuses and allowances; denial of training for professional development and basic office equipment and operational vehicles, as well as the non-payment of pensions and gratuities, were the legacies of Yahaya Bello on the Kogi State Civil Service.”

Said MEKSTA: “Is it not a shame that a former governor of a state which produced eminent bureaucrats like Chief SB Awoniyi; Chief SB Daniyan; Asiwaju Sola Akanmode; Alhaji Abdrahman Okene; Ambassador Judith Attah; Prince Ataba Sani-Omolori; Prof Francis Idachaba; Senator Alex Kadiri, Chief Robert Audu and so on, lacks basic knowledge about document handling? How many former governors in Nigeria are still clutching to properties and documents belonging to the states they hitherto administered? What did Yahaya Bello really learn in management and administration over eight years such that he is betraying such managerial illiteracy in the public space and making a laughing stock of the human resources of a state so blessed and otherwise respected?”

MEKSTA wondered why it had to be Bello, who wrote to congratulate the new Chief of Army Staff and not the incumbent governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo.

The group also questioned why Bello did not congratulate sons and daughters of Kogi State, previously appointed by President Bola Tinubu into various positions, but rather directing his self-serving correspondence to the new Army Chief.

MEKSTA advised Bello not to nurse the hope that Maj Gen Waidi Shaibu is some pliable senior military officer who will subscribe to his prototype on electoral brigandage and violence perfected during his years as governor.

The organisation admonished Yahaya Bello to go and get a life after his stint in Government House, Lokoja, and stop being a “leeching rent collector, conniving to deny the people resources meant for their welfare and development.”

In their words: “When last did anyone hear or see former Governor Donald Duke of Cross River State hanging around Government House, Calabar? Since he left office in 2007, he has returned to his private business and is very, very successful. He’s sparingly seen in Calabar as he shuttles across the world, building his private enterprise. This is why all his successors and the people of Cross River State love and respect him.

“Former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani of Enugu State remains an iconic figure in the politics of the state. He has tested himself politically even after being governor and won election into the Senate. Back home, Ibrahim Idris remains a good example of how to be a former governor. He served Kogi state for an unprecedented nine years, handed over to his preferred successor, and has since retired to managing his private business far away from Lugard House, the Kogi State seat of power. That is how to stay relevant and regarded. That is how to be a statesman.

The statement was signed by members of MEKSTA across all the three senatorial zones of Kogi State.
