Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has sparked fresh reactions online after making a series of candid confessions during her appearance on the Lip Service Podcast, where she opened up about relationships, love, and intimacy.

The ‘Somebody’s Son’ crooner admitted she sometimes feels like a ‘sugar mama’, but said it’s not something she really wants to be identified with.

‘I’m like a sugar mama, but I don’t want to be,’ Tiwa said during the chat. ‘The question is, do I need somebody to. or anybody that can. if they’re in their 50s or already married, maybe I can be a second wife. I could be a second wife.’

Her revelation drew laughter from the hosts, but the singer quickly acknowledged that many women might have an issue with her statement.

‘Oh my God, I don’t know how this is going to sound. I feel like a lot of women are going to have a problem with me saying that,’ she admitted, before adding that ‘sometimes, the second wife gets the better treatment.’

Tiwa made the comment while reacting to another speaker’s claim that being the first wife guarantees more respect and care in marriage.

In another moment from the same conversation, the 45-year-old award-winning singer surprised the hosts when she confessed to learning about a particular sexual act only recently.

‘I just learnt recently about scissoring,’ she said, laughing. ‘I didn’t know that.’

Nigerian comedian and actor Ayo Makun, also known as AY, has made a shocking revelation about celebrities and influencers.

AY on his Instagram page on Thursday, noted the harm in making comparisons. He further warned people not to fashion their lives based off of what they see online, emphasising that most of it is fake.

AY further added that some influencers and celebrities go as far as borrowing outfits and wigs just to look the part.

‘Many of these celebrities you envy are living on borrowed wigs, borrowed outfits, and borrowed lifestyles. Some take pictures in hotel lobbies and call them their new homes, while others pose with cars that don’t belong to them. Social media is like a movie set; not everything you see online is real,’ he stated.

A 32-year-old man alleged to be a kingpin of receivers of vandalised railway materials has been arrested in Rigasa area of Kaduna State. The suspected receiver of stolen railways materials was arrested by operatives of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC)

The Managing Director of the NRC, Dr Kayode Opeifa who disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Lagos.

Opeifa said a trailer loaded with railway components was also intercepted in Plateau State as part of the coordinated operation.

According to the statement signed by the Chief Public Relations Officer, Mr Callistus Unyimadu, the arrest marks a major breakthrough in the corporation’s campaign against vandalism.

‘In Kaduna, the suspect, apprehended around Rigasa, confessed to buying stolen NRC electrical cables for ?90,000 from vandals,’ Opeifa said.

He explained that the arrest followed intelligence reports on vandalised electrical installations along the Mando-Rigasa corridor on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Investigation is ongoing.

Opeifa added that in Plateau, operatives of the Nigeria Police, Railway Command, intercepted a trailer carrying large quantities of railway materials along KM 822-823, Forom axis.

‘The truck, abandoned by its driver who fled the scene, was towed to the Jos Railway Police Station on Wednesday, Oct. 15,’ he said.

He noted that investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend all individuals connected to the theft.

Opeifa commended the Nigeria Police for their professionalism, intelligence-led operations, and swift response in handling both incidents.

He described the arrests and recoveries as proof of renewed synergy between the corporation and security agencies in protecting vital railway assets.

The NRC boss reaffirmed the corporation’s resolve to strengthen collaboration with the Police, NSCDC, and other security formations to bring vandals to justice.

He warned that such criminal acts amounted to economic sabotage and said the NRC would maintain zero tolerance for vandalism through surveillance and intelligence sharing.

Opeifa also urged residents of communities hosting railway facilities to stay vigilant and report any suspicious movement around rail installations.

He stressed that the railway system remained a major driver of national development, calling for collective responsibility in safeguarding it.

Susan Stamberg, a trailblazer in American broadcasting and the first woman to host a national news programme, is dead.

She was 87.

Her death was announced by National Public Radio (NPR), where she was regarded as one of the network’s ‘founding mothers.’ NPR confirmed Stamberg died on Thursday, October 16, though the cause of death was not disclosed.

Stamberg joined NPR in the early 1970s, just as the network was beginning operations, and went on to shape its identity over a career that spanned several decades. She became the host of NPR’s flagship programme, All Things Considered, in 1972. She held the role for 14 years.

In an earlier interview with Oregon’s KLCC, Stamberg reflected on her early days in broadcasting, saying she had few female role models and initially tried to sound like the men who dominated radio at the time.

‘The only ones on were men, and the only thing I knew to do was imitate them,’ she recalled. ‘After a few days, my boss told me to just be myself – that became part of NPR’s new sound.’

Her conversational tone and authentic delivery helped redefine public radio, setting a standard for the intimate, human storytelling NPR became famous for.

Stamberg later coined the term ‘founding mothers’ to describe herself and three other pioneering women who built NPR from the ground up, Cokie Roberts, Nina Totenberg, and Linda Wertheimer.

‘I got tired of hearing about Founding Fathers,’ she once said. ‘We were obviously Founding Mothers and I was going to put that on the map.’

Beyond All Things Considered, Stamberg went on to host Weekend Edition Sunday, where she introduced the now-iconic Sunday puzzle segment with Will Shortz, who later became the New York Times crossword editor. She also served as a cultural correspondent for Morning Edition and Weekend Edition Saturday before her retirement in September.

One of her most memorable moments came in 1979 when she hosted a two-hour live radio call-in show with then-U.S. President Jimmy Carter from the Oval Office with unscreened questions from the public.

Known for her warmth, intelligence, and curiosity, Stamberg interviewed an array of notable figures including Nancy Reagan, Rosa Parks, James Baldwin, and Annie Leibovitz.

In recognition of her groundbreaking work, Stamberg was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2020.

Born Susan Levitt in Newark, New Jersey, in 1938, she grew up in Manhattan and is survived by her son, actor Josh Stamberg, and two granddaughters, Vivian and Lena.

Nollywood actress, Sarah Martins has finally spoken up after being confronted by officials during a community outreach.

Martins on her Instagram page, explained her ordeal, claiming that the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) officers harassed her.

The actress also showed bruises she endured during the incident, stating that it was an unprovoked attack.

‘My heart aches. Today, as I was cooking free food for the vulnerable and homeless people on the streets of Lagos, like I always do, some uniformed men came there, harassed me, bullied me, and took away the food I was cooking, my cooking gas, and everything I was using. My only offence was serving love on a plate through my healthy meals. I am not a chef, and I do not cook for a living,’ she stated

Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has sparked controversy online after bringing his wife, Tiwi’s underwear, to the red carpet premiere of Daniel Etim-Effiong’s latest movie, The Herd, at IMAX Lekki, Lagos.

The event, which drew several top Nollywood stars, became a social media talking point after videos emerged of Kunle displaying what he described as a ‘symbolic token’ from his wife.

Explaining the gesture, the actor said since his wife couldn’t attend the premiere, he decided to carry a personal item of hers as a sign of connection.

‘Your wife could not be present physically, so she gave you a piece of herself. Randomly remembering how I started my morning,’ Kunle wrote on Instagram.

Clips shared online showed the actor flaunting the underwear during the red carpet event, using it as a prop throughout his day, from breakfast to behind-the-scenes moments.

However, his action didn’t sit well with many Nigerians, who criticized the display as inappropriate and unsettling.

Layal Jade Tinubu, wife of President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, has revealed that she met her husband through Facebook.

Layal made the revelation in a video broadcast marking Seyi’s 40th birthday.

According to her, what attracted her to Seyi was his confident yet easy-going nature.

‘We met on Facebook. I wouldn’t really say there was a pickup line per se. But it was more of how he carried himself that drew me to him. He was confident yet easy-going. And he has this opulent charm like he didn’t really need to try,’ she said.

Layal, a Nigerian-Lebanese lawyer and entrepreneur, married Seyi Tinubu in 2016. The couple is blessed with children.

The Lagos State Government has reacted to the assault claims made by Nollywood actress Sarah Martins against Kick Against Indiscipline officers.

The actress, who was confronted while cooking in public as a community service act, took to her Instagram page to accuse the officers of harassing and assaulting her.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, on Friday, responded to the allegations and defended the actions of the officers.

While appreciating her philanthropic intent, Wahab stated that such actions must be carried out in compliance with the state laws.

‘The individual in question claimed to be conducting charitable cooking activities on the road median, which unfortunately contravened existing environmental and sanitation regulations. While the Lagos State Government deeply appreciates the spirit of philanthropy and community support demonstrated by many residents, such initiatives must be carried out in compliance with the state’s extant laws to ensure public safety, environmental protection, and urban order,’ Wahab wrote.

He also stated the need for adherence to laws, citing public safety and traffic disruptions as reasons why the kind act was disrupted.

‘Lagosians are encouraged to utilize designated spaces or seek necessary approvals for such activities to contribute positively without compromising the state’s standards,’ he added.

A 78-year -old Kano farmer identified as Dan’azumi Muhammad has been sentenced to five years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to one-count charge bordering on attempt to sexually abuse a seven-year-old girl.

Muhammad, who lives in Kumurya Village, Bunkure Local Government Area of the state was arraigned on a one-count one-count charge of procurement and attempted sexual exploitation before Federal High Court sitting in Kano.

Mr Hassan Nuruddeen, the prosecution counsel, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Kano Command, said the defendant committed the offence at Kumurya Village, Bunkure Local government area of Kano state, on July 18.

Nuruddeen said that on the same date the defendant accosted minor on her way to school at about 8:am and dragged her into a local Silo at Kumurya, close to his house.

The prosecution presented the confessional statement of the convict and the victim’s testimony to the court to prove his case.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 29 and punishable under section 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015.

Muhammad was convicted on the one-count charge after he pleaded guilty.

The defence counsel, Mr M B Isah, however pleaded for leniency on behalf of the convict, as a first-time offender.

Delivering judgment Justice S M Shuaibu, held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.

‘I hereby sentence the convict to five years imprisonment without option of fine.

This will serve as a deterrent to others as cases like this are becoming prevalent,’ he said.

Lagos State has taken a major leap towards modernising its water transportation system, as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday officially launched the pound 410 million Omi-Eko Inland Waterways Infrastructure Project, funded through a partnership between the European Union (EU) and key development finance institutions.

The project, which aims to transform Lagos into a hub of clean, efficient, and integrated water mobility, will deliver 70 hybrid electric ferries, 140 kilometres of dredged and channelised ferry routes, and 25 modern ferry terminals equipped with electric charging stations and maintenance depots.

Lagos secured financing for the ambitious project under the EU’s Global Gateway Initiative, in collaboration with the French Development Agency (AFD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB), which approved a subsidised loan of pound 360 million.

Governor Sanwo-Olu described the launch as ‘historic,’ calling it ‘a bold statement reaffirming Lagos’ frontline leadership in delivering a sustainable integrated water transportation ecosystem.’

He said the Omi-Eko initiative aligns with the State’s THEMES+ Agenda, which prioritises sustainable mobility, adding that the project will reduce traffic congestion, improve public health, and promote environmental sustainability.

‘Every Lagosian knows the frustration of traffic. But a few will remember that Lagos began as a network of islands, knitted together by water,’ Sanwo-Olu said.

‘Long before bridges connected the city, boats carried dreams, goods, and people across the lagoons. This water body nourishes us, shapes the State’s identity and now, it will carry us into the future.’

According to him, the Omi-Eko Project represents a ‘comprehensive, future-oriented blueprint for sustainable mobility in Lagos’, merging technology, environmental stewardship, and design to tackle the challenges of urban population growth and climate change.

‘The launch of this project is more than a ceremonial curtain pull. It is a covenant with our people, our planet, and with future generations,’ the Governor said.

‘With Omi-Eko, we are lifting not only boats but lives, businesses, and communities. We are signalling that Lagos is ready to lead Africa’s urban transition by this bold, sustainable, and inclusive investment.’

The project will also help reduce carbon emissions by 41,000 tonnes annually, while moving an estimated 25,000 passengers each year and cutting travel times by up to three hours per trip.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Blue Economy and Managing Director of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Mr. Damilola Emmanuel, described the project as a transformative step for the state.

‘In the first phase, there will be dredging and channelisation of 15 ferry routes for safer and faster transport. Part of the benefits include technology transfer and capacity development for key agencies in the waterways, especially LASWA,’ he said.

‘There will be funding for the informal boat sector under our Vessel Industry. This is how we build a water-based economy that works for all – from operators to passengers, from private investors to our citizens.’

He revealed that 20 existing jetties would be upgraded and 70 hybrid electric ferries deployed upon completion, significantly cutting emissions and driving clean mobility across the State.

French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jean-Noel Barrot, lauded the project as a model for global cooperation, noting that it embodies the success of bilateral ties strengthened during President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to French President Emmanuel Macron.

‘The Omi-Eko project represents the best possible example of what partnership can achieve for the benefit of the people,’ he said.

Also speaking, EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Gautier Mignot, described the initiative as a ‘historic milestone’ for Lagos and EU member states, stressing that the investment would enhance life quality and connectivity.

‘This investment supports development of 12 strategic waterways corridors to enhance secure and efficient sustainable transport networks. Four of these corridors are located in West Africa. We are proud to be part of this project which showcases all the aspects of global gateway development,’ Mignot said.

Former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, who established LASWA in 2008, praised Sanwo-Olu for nurturing the agency into a globally respected institution.

‘The Omi-Eko project will further expand the scope of the State’s integrated transportation network,’ Fashola said, expressing optimism that the project would succeed given the commitment of the European partners.

Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Seun Osiyemi, said Omi-Eko would ‘unlock the full potential of Lagos inland waterways’ and complete the vision of a fully integrated multimodal transport system.

‘Omi-Eko aligns with broader Lagos Transport Policy, which promotes sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation,’ he stated.

‘The project is not just about ferry operations; it is about empowering communities, creating jobs, easing congestion, and reducing our carbon footprint.’
