Moses Kunkuyu appointed Leader of Opposition amid deep divisions in MCP

The former Minister of Information emerges as a compromise figure as party factions clash over President Chakwera’s earlier choice.

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Former Minister of Information Moses Kunkuyu has officially assumed the role of Leader of Opposition in Parliament.

This development has been confirmed by reliable sources within the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), marking a significant turn in the party’s internal dynamics.

Kunkuyu’s appointment comes at a time when the party has been grappling with deep internal divisions following disagreements over who should take up the powerful position in the National Assembly.

The MCP has reportedly settled for Kunkuyu as a neutral and unifying figure, seen as capable of bridging the gap between the warring factions within the party.

According to political insiders, two main camps had emerged in recent weeks — one supporting President Lazarus Chakwera’s initial choice for the position, and another opposing the decision, citing concerns of favoritism and lack of consultation.

These divisions had threatened to spill over into open confrontation, raising fears of a potential split within the ruling party.

Kunkuyu’s selection is therefore being viewed as a strategic compromise aimed at restoring stability and maintaining a sense of unity within the MCP parliamentary ranks.

Moses Kunkuyu, a veteran politician known for his articulate communication style and firm grasp of governance issues, first rose to national prominence during the Joyce Banda administration, where he served as Minister of Information and Civic Education.

He was regarded as one of the youngest and most progressive voices in the Cabinet at the time, often advocating for youth inclusion, transparency, and reforms in the public sector.

After leaving the People’s Party (PP), Kunkuyu later aligned himself with the Malawi Congress Party, where his reputation for moderation and diplomacy earned him a respected place among the party’s senior figures.

A seasoned politician and communicator, Moses Kunkuyu is widely respected for his measured tone and moderate political stance, qualities that many believe made him the ideal candidate for the role.

His leadership comes at a crucial time when the opposition is expected to play a more constructive and assertive role in Parliament, holding government accountable while maintaining national cohesion.

Political analysts suggest that Kunkuyu’s elevation could reshape the tone of parliamentary debate, bringing a more consensus-driven approach to Malawi’s polarized political landscape.

The appointment also signals a possible realignment of power within the MCP, as Chakwera and his inner circle seek to balance party loyalty with broader political pragmatism.

For now, the move has been received with mixed reactions across the political spectrum.

Some see it as a bold and unifying decision, while others view it as a temporary fix that fails to address the underlying divisions within the party.

Observers say Kunkuyu’s ability to navigate the complex political terrain ahead will determine whether his leadership will consolidate or further fragment the MCP’s internal unity.

As Parliament reconvenes, all eyes will be on the new Leader of Opposition to see how he handles the role — particularly in managing both party expectations and public scrutiny in an increasingly tense political environment.

Kunkuyu’s calm demeanor and reputation for diplomacy could prove instrumental in easing tensions, but his success will depend largely on whether he can gain the trust and cooperation of both factions within his party.

For many Malawians, his appointment symbolizes a test of leadership and maturity for the MCP as it seeks to project unity amid ongoing political turbulence.

Kendall Jenner Makes Surprising Comment About When She Lost Her Virginity

Kendall Jenner surprised all of Us with her onscreen comments about losing her virginity.

During the Thursday, October 23, episode of The Kardashians, Kendall, 29, and the rest of her famous family prepared to say goodbye to their old home where she grew up.

“I lost my virginity in that room,” she told mom Kris Jenner. “I actually didn’t. It was at his house.”

While Kris, 69, appeared shocked by the admission, Kendall claimed her parents “didn’t care” what she did when living under their roof, adding, “Not only did she not know, she really didn’t give a f***.”

Kendall Jenner’s Quotes About Wanting Kids Over the Years

Kendall added: “She was like, ‘Oh you are going out until Wednesday? Great. Never come back.’ We were children No. 5 and 6 and she had no energy for us anymore.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Kendall dropped another bombshell.

“I am going to the cabana to say goodbye. I used to smoke a lot of weed in there when you weren’t looking,” she noted to Kris. “I was 16 and Kylie [Jenner] was 14. We would shut those curtains.”

Kendall has made headlines over the years for her love life. Amid her respective romances with Bad Bunny and Devin Booker, Kendall was candid about her timeline for having a family.

“I go in and out of phases [of having baby fever],” she told E! News in May 2019. “Some days, I’ll be there and I’ll be like, ‘[Oh, my God], I think it’s happening. I think I have the fever.’”

Kendall later joked during a 2022 episode of The Kardashians that her many nieces and nephews sometimes act as “massive birth control” for her. “Just because it is a lot,” she said of pregnancy.

At the time, Kendall opened up about feeling “uncomfortable” when asked about her plans for having kids. “You keep telling me, ‘You’re not getting any younger.’ But guess what? It’s my life,” she told her mother on the show. “I don’t know if I’m ready yet.”

Kris, however, took it upon herself to call their OBGYN to find out whether Kendall should freeze her eggs soon. In response, Kendall said, “I still have a lot to figure out before I can, like, welcome a child into my life. I’m still, like, enjoying life on my own. And I’m OK with that right now.”

More recently, Kendall defended her decision not to rush into motherhood.

“When I was young, I used to say that by 27 I’d love to have kids,” she shared in a 2024 interview with Vogue. “Now I’m past that and I feel like I’m still so young. I’m enjoying my kidless freedom.”

Kendall credited fellow supermodel Christy Turlington for being an inspiration when it came to balancing work and family.

“She seemed so calm and collected. I really appreciated her energy through it all. And it feels like life outside modeling and family were really important to her,” she gushed. “Relationships mean so much to me, and I can’t wait to have a life with someone one day, to have kids, to create a family. Christy just gives good vibes. Maybe she cared a little bit less! I think that’s really cool.”

Khloe Kardashian Reveals She Hasn’t Had Sex With Anyone in 3 Years

Khloé Kardashian made a surprising revelation about her sex life.

During the Thursday, October 23, episode of The Kardashians, Khloé and Kourtney Kardashian mentioned Julia Fox and her decision to remain celibate, which was relatable to the younger sister.

“I haven’t had sex in over three years,” Khloé, 41, shared about prioritizing family and her career over finding someone to start dating.

Khloé’s friends didn’t believe her but she stood by her comment, adding, “There’s no one I am texting or anyone’s phone number. I don’t have nudes.”

Khloe Kardashian’s Candid Quotes About Finding Love After Tristan Scandal

The reality star has previously defended her decision not to look for a sexual partner after her high-profile split from ex Tristan Thompson. Khloé and Thompson, 34, who share kids True, 7, and Tatum, 3, dated off-and-on from 2016 to 2021, ultimately calling it quits for good after his multiple cheating scandals.

“Tristan and I, we always get along great. Him and I have a great friendship relationship. We get along fine, and for my kids, I will put anything to the side. What’s done is done, so why would I be still holding on to [past drama] for?” Khloé said on The Kardashians in June 2023. “I don’t need to punish him because I am not getting back together with him.”

Khloé credited enforced boundaries for helping her start fresh with Thompson. “If I am not here, he is here. I would rather him be here than a nanny. There are still boundaries. Like, I definitely put my foot down on a lot of things,” she added. “No one is here chilling if there are no kids involved. It is always about the kids and that’s what it is. But we are not hanging out by ourselves.”

Celebs Who Have Been Candid About Practicing Celibacy Over the Years

Later that year, Khloé slammed rumors she was secretly getting back together with Thompson.

“Stop pushing this narrative. It’s tiring. But I suppose you guys will continue the narrative you want regardless of what I say so what’s the point,” she wrote in the comments section of a 2023 fan post that claimed Khloé was preparing to reveal she was dating the NBA player again. “It’s exhausting but I learned people will only understand to the level of their own perception. Most are stuck at believing the lies because it’s the narrative they want to fuel. Have fun…. Some things are just as simple as they seem.”

According to Khloé, her and Thompson’s focus has remained on their children, regardless of their ups and downs.

“I know it’s cliché, but I love everything, even the hard parts,” she told Elle in an August 2022 interview. “[My kids] challenge me as a person and being able to shape little people into really incredible big people is an honor and a gift.”

Scottish First Minister hails NBM Development Bank model

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Scottish First Minister, John Swinney has commended the development bank model being championed by NBM Development Bank Limited to support the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) for greater impact in their respective societies in the country.

Swinney made the remarks after meeting directors and officials from NBM Development Bank Ltd, and other SMEs in the country on Sunday in Blantyre, to appreciate their business ideas and progress.

NBM Development Bank Ltd is a subsidiary of National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc.

It is a Development Finance Institution licensed by the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), established as a long-term financing arm of NBM plc for small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs).

“I support the development bank model because it provides an opportunity for SMEs to grow by accessing financial support which is not the same as loans from commercial banks. Scotland is committed to supporting Malawi in areas like health, education, and climate change mitigation through collaborative projects, including support for grassroots initiatives and rural development.”

“Our government is committed to investing in projects that build capacity and attract further investment,” said Swinney.

NBM plc Chief Operations Officer (COO) Masauko Katsala, who is also one of the NBM Development Bank Ltd Directors, commended the Scottish First Minister for granting them an audience, while pleading for more support to continue with their mission of empowering the local SMEs.

“The Development Bank provides debt and equity capital to SMEs within key target sectors, and also assists these enterprises with business support services in order to assure viability of the enterprises. The Bank also assists these enterprises with business support services in order to assure viability of the enterprises.”

“The distinguishing feature of our financing model against commercial bank’s lending is that all applications have to demonstrate a development impact in terms of promoting environmental and social economic sustainability like financing of clean energy products and financing of projects that create jobs,’’ said Katsala.

Katsala said the Bank has already financed some women-led projects which are doing well, and that also demonstrates NBM plc’s commitment to empowering women in the country.

Diane Lane Details How Parenthood Inspired Her ‘Anniversary’ Character

Diane Lane is sharing how being a mom to her daughter, Eleanor Lambert, helped shape her performance as matriarch Ellen Taylor in new psychological thriller Anniversary.

“Once you are a parent, you don’t feel like you have to pretend as much,” Lane, 60, exclusively told Us Weekly at the film’s New York City premiere on Tuesday, October 21. “I understand the need for each generation to have its own set of identity that feels as though it cannot be understood by the previous one. So with great patience and hope as a parent, you’re going to be able to bridge the quote on quote ‘divide.’”

Lane, who shares Eleanor with first husband Christopher Lambert, continued, “But at the same time, I think every 80 years, we achieve a blind spot to our own history, which is probably why we tend to repeat it in an 80-year cycle where each generation seems surprised. And yet if you look at history, it’s not so surprising.”

Anniversary, which hits theaters on Wednesday, October 29, follows the close-knit Taylor family as they find themselves caught in the tumultuous rising movement known as “The Change.” Lane plays Ellen, a college professor who discovers that her son, Josh (Dylan O’Brien), is dating her former student Liz (Phoebe Dynevor), with whom she had a complicated past.

‘The Parent Trap’ 1998 Cast: Where Are They Now?

As the film progresses, Liz’s radical political views spawn the “Change,” which promotes a one-party government system, and the increasingly popular movement begins to threaten Ellen and her family’s lives, as well as the fabric of the nation itself. Kyle Chandler, Zoey Deutch, Madeline Brewer and McKenna Grace also star.

While speaking with Us on Tuesday, Lane explained that “nobody is untouched by the word ‘change,’” which is why Anniversary felt like an important story to tell.

“[Change] has been promised by politicians every time we have a voting cycle,” she said, noting that “the war for people’s hearts and minds and the vitriol that gets utilized” is something that the film’s director and cowriter Jan Komasa “knows a lot about.”

“As a Polish citizen, his country has certainly been yanked around and survived a lot of invasive ideologies, to put it mildly,” she continued. “So I felt like we were in good hands with [him] here. He knows exactly what he’s doing, and I’m a fan of his previous work. We were his first English-speaking film, so it was an honor.”

Lane certainly has an eye for projects, as she has scored an array of Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe nominations throughout her illustrious career. According to the Unfaithful star, there have also been “plenty” of regrets she and her friends laugh about when it comes to their choice of roles.

“You go with the flow and you roll with the punches and you say, ‘Well, next time I’ll know better,’ ” she told Entertainment Tonight in a Monday, October 20, interview. “I don’t mind making mistakes as long as I don’t lose the lesson. For actors, sometimes it’s on film forever and you’ve got to enjoy that too. It keeps you humble.”

Jennifer Lopez Regrets Turning Down an Oscar-Nominated Role: ‘It Haunts Me’

Lane pointed to Jack, the 1996 Francis Ford Coppola film she starred in opposite Robin Williams about a boy who ages four times faster than normal, as a project that may not be critically acclaimed, but still holds a “special place” in her “library.” (Lane played Jack’s mother, Karen, in the dramedy.)

Lane credited her love for the film to Williams, who she called “a breath of more than fresh air” who “set the bar so high in terms of good energy.” (Williams died by suicide in 2014 at the age of 63.)

“He brought all of it with him,” she recalled. “So in that way, I thought that the gift was very appropriate coming from him, because he could play all the parts in all the plays.”

Anniversary hits theaters on Wednesday, October 29.

DWTS’ Pasha Offered to Pay for Nose Job After Almost Dropping Danielle

Danielle Fishel put all of her trust in pro Pasha Pashkov keeping her in one piece while executing lifts on Dancing With the Stars season 34.

When asked whether she was “nervous” while in the air, Danielle, 44, exclusively told Us Weekly that she’s “never” nervous with Pasha, 39 — though her partner had a bit of doubt.

“There was a moment,” he interjected.

“Well, sure, when you almost dropped me on my nose during dress rehearsal,” Danielle replied after the Tuesday, October 21, episode, as Pasha confirmed the fall was “this close” to happening.

Danielle explained she waited until the floor was inches from her face before putting her hand out to cushion her face — something Pasha asked her to not repeat during the live show.

“I was like, ‘I got you, no matter what happens during the live performance,’” Pasha said. “I was like, ‘Do not touch the floor. I got you. Worst case scenario, I’m paying for a nose job.’”

For Danielle, that was all she “needed to know.”

“The only reason I didn’t want to smack the floor is because I didn’t want the expense of a nose job,” Danielle quipped. “[But] once he took that off the table …”

Danielle and Pasha wowed judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli with their Argentine tango to Cynthia Erivo’s “No Good Deed” in celebration of Wicked night — ultimately earning their first 9s of the season.

“I’m so happy,” Danielle gushed. “All I wanted a couple of weeks ago was just like an eight, and then last week we got an eight. And I never thought that we would jump eights to get to a nine, but we did. And I just, I mean, that shock on my face up there was real. I’m so happy.”

For Danielle, Pasha is the one keeping her motivated to earn her spot in the ballroom week after week.

“He works so hard, it never stops,” she said. “He gets in the car, he starts listening to the music for the next week. He has a morning off because we have an afternoon rehearsal, he’s back in the studio choreographing for the next week. He then shows up, he’s extremely focused, he’s very present. He never lets me be like, ‘I’m not sure I can do this.’ He’s like, ‘No, no, OK, enough. Let’s go.’ And he just keeps challenging me.”

She continued, “If he’s willing to work this hard, I have to be willing to work that hard, plus, because I’m coming from such a deficit for what he knows. So I just give it all to him.”

Sometimes giving it all includes getting some bruises along the way. Danielle noted that there’s a new injury “every day,” with her hip having a “gnarly bruise” right now.

“I bruise like a peach,” she explained. “Literally, for the first two days of learning this routine, I kept saying, ‘I’m just a sack of potatoes because I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing.’ And he’s literally just swinging me around.”

She continued, “Every day there’s something new. Sometimes it’s like a shoulder, sometimes it’s a neck, sometimes it’s a hip, and sometimes it’s a hamstring. I did not realize how much I underestimated what dancers put their bodies through. And I’m like, ‘All right, if they can do it, I guess I can do it too.’”

“Experience, qualification, integrity determined promotions”-Lands Ministry’s Director Zimba

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Ministry of Lands has said all promotions followed due process and meritorious shading off allegations of favouritism and nepotism.

The clarification settles down the allegations that have been levelled against the outgoing Principal Secretary Devie Chilonga and Commissioner for Valuation and Estate Management Mickson Chiundira.

According to Ministry of Lands Director of Human Resources Management, Francisco Zimba, the ministry had a lot of unfilled vacancies for senior positions, a development that stifled delivery.

“The promotions were meritorious, we used integrity, experience and qualifications to fill in the existing gaps,” he said.

He said, for example, “Zione Malanda is qualified and served the ministry for over years and now promoted to Deputy Director.” Others who are agitating have served less than 13 years according to file records and often with reported misconducts on file while other are being investigated by other competent agencies.

Zimba added that there were no any inches of political, tribal and regionalistic inclinations when filling the vacancies.

“Every qualified Malawian regardless of region or tribe, were accorded equal opportunity, promotions were offered to those qualified individuals who passed the interviews and nothing else.

He said, “It’s necessary to mention that everyone was given equal chances, for example, file records are showing that among many who were considered Blessings Mpanga and Mr Jambo Chiziwitsano from Chiradzulu and Nsanje were promoted as Deputy Directors of Quality Assurance- heading Eastern and Souther region respectively, Anthony Nzima, from the north, is the fastest promoted from P8 to become Deputy Commissioner for Lands(Land registration) Counsel Nzati Mbeko is from Blantyre was appointed Deputy Commissioner (Legal Services),  Masida Mbano from the north was promoted to Surveyor General, and was promoted, Counsel Yohane Dzowa is from Balaka, he got promoted to Deputy Director(Legal Services), Mirriam Lungu and Cynthia Chisanu from Rumphi and Ntcheu were promoted to Deputy Commissioners for Valuation and Property Databank respectively. Mr Jailosi Lungu from Mzimba and Mr Philimon Mkwezalamba from Lilongwe were promoted to Deputy Commissioners for Physical Planning (Enforcement/Planning)

Not only that but also, Mr Msukwa from Chitipa, Mrs Sarah Mzunda from Chitipa, Mr Kabambe from Thyolo, Mr Chikweni from Machinga, Mr Manzi from Mzimba and many others were promoted to the post of Chief Lands Officer, Chief Valuation Officer, Chief Estae Management Officer etc. Then many others in lower cadres were also accorded opportunity to undergo interviews at Civil Service Commission which you can go and verify. You will appreciate that it was from all the districts. Our files are open for inspection at any time.

The Ministry of Lands has been the fastest in filling gaps of vacant posts that mostly made operations hard in the past.

An inside source from the ministry hinted that more people were moved up to fill various positions and this became a direct motivation and efficiency drastically improved.

However, it was reported that management had the right to avoid those with questionable work ethics which often are those making the noise.
