Ben Stiller admitted that it was difficult to look at his once-crumbling relationship with Christine Taylor opposite his parents’ long-lasting marriage.
In his new documentary, Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost, released on Friday, October 17, the actor, 59, opened up about growing an “aversion” toward working with Taylor, 54, on projects. When the pair decided to separate in 2017 after 17 years of marriage, those negative feelings came to a head.
“When we separated, my feeling was, like, ‘Oh, I’m failing at this and look at my parents. They have this incredible 60 plus years of marriage and I can’t live up to that,’” Stiller confessed.
Stiller and Taylor ultimately reconciled in early 2022, with him telling Esquire in February of that year that they were “happy.” However, the multihyphenate admitted it took a lot of work and reflection to get back to that point with his wife.

“I feel like in our relationship that’s what you were feeling from me when we got together and started working together in the beginning. I had this natural aversion …” Stiller continued.

Taylor added, “I do feel like there was history and I think a lot of it was your experience about what that ultimately meant for a relationship. It can put extra strain when you’re eating, sleeping, breathing each other in that way. I also felt like there was a fear for you for me of what that would look like to the outside world. I mean it was very loaded.”
Stiller admitted he was “feeling like, wait a minute, I don’t want to become my parents.”
The Meet the Parents actor grew up in a show business family, with his father, Jerry Stiller, leading a comedy career that included starring in the hit sitcom The King of Queens, while his mother, Anne Meara, earned critical acclaim for her work on The Other Woman. (Jerry died in 2020 at age 92 and Meara died in 2015 at age 85. The twosome were married for 61 years until her death.)
“I remember my mom telling me, you know, you need to be there for your family,” Ben recalled, alluding to his busy work schedule keeping him away from kids Ella, 23, and Quin, 20, for long periods of time.
“I feel like there was a period of time where work was a really big priority and as we talk about this I now see that parallel with your dad,” Taylor added. “But when you put really good work out there, you will still see that one thing that didn’t work. The defeat. The absolute defeat. And the behind the scenes of how we navigate those waters for you, did sort of become us as a family saying, ‘What if?’ I think the word is …” she trailed off before Ben chimed in to say, “It sucks.”
Taylor recalled Meara giving her advice when she was facing turmoil in her marriage to Ben.
“Also, don’t try to pretend it’s not affecting you. For better or for worse, voice it,” she urged. “I remember Anne pulled me aside, like, ‘Take care of you.’ She had my back — and you were her son!”

“My career had been going along for a long time but things actually weren’t great in my personal life,” he said. “I just felt out of balance and unhappy and kind of disconnected from my family, from my kids and just kind of a little bit lost.”
Ben continued, “I started to think about my parents and all the stress and tension I remember seeing as a kid and the pressure when they were working together and how they stayed together through it. … I think I wanted to somehow understand how they did it.”

Fortunately for everyone, Prime Video has plenty of them, including several underrated gems that are worth watching this weekend.
Watch With Us’ top choice is The Ballad of Wallis Island, a quiet drama that’s one of 2025’s best movies so far.
Other worthy films include the Timothée Chalamet-led film Beautiful Boy and the horror comedy Tremors, which is perfect for fans of Kevin Bacon and the 1975 film Jaws.
Charles Heath (Tim Key) has won the lottery twice, so he can buy whatever he wants. A devoted fan of the defunct indie-folk duo McGwyer Mortimer, he hires them both to play a private concert for him on the secluded Wallis Island. But Herb McGwyer (Tom Basden) no longer plays folk, and he is weary of reuniting with Nell Mortimer (Carey Mulligan), who was once his lover. They both need the cash, though, so they accept – but can they put their messy past and present grievances behind them long enough to perform for Charles, who has his own personal problems to deal with?

Quiet and unassuming, The Ballad of Wallis Island is an absorbing drama that deals with how people recover – or don’t – from a past relationship. Charles and Nell have moved on, but their reunion brings up old resentments they both thought were dead and buried. For Charles, his grief over his wife’s passing still rules his life, even though he tries to use his new wealth to bury his pain. Wallis Island’s three leads are all messed up in the best way possible, and the film’s soundtrack has an appropriate folk-rock vibe that will make you want to walk in the woods and meditate.

Something is terrorizing the small town of Perfection, Nevada. After handymen Val (Kevin Bacon) and Earl (Fred Ward) discover the severed head of a town citizen, they initially think there’s a serial killer on the loose. But soon they encounter the real culprits – four giant, underground worms that want to consume every animal and human in their path. With local scientist Rhonda (Finn Carter), the trio must warn everyone else nearby and somehow destroy these killer creatures before it’s too late.
Fun and unexpectedly tense, Tremors packs as many laughs as it does gore. Like Jaws, it focuses on three working-class heroes who have to think quickly on their feet if they want to survive. Bacon and Ward are terrific as the in-over-their-heads buddies who are surprisingly resourceful, and the film’s supporting cast is stacked with actors you’d least expect in a movie like this, like Family Ties dad Michael Gross and country star Reba McEntire as a fun-loving, gun-toting married couple. The movie spawned a lot of inferior sequels, but it’s best you avoid all of them and stick with the original.

Carrell and Chalamet give award-worthy performances as a father and son who clearly love each other, but are no match for just how powerful opioids can be.

The event held on Wednesday, October 15, at the Sheaffer ICA Marque in Lilongwe, brought families together to honor the invaluable contributions of mothers.
Both artists expressed their gratitude for being part of the event, highlighting the enthusiastic audience that inspired them to deliver outstanding performances.
Favoured Martha says, “Honestly speaking, this is what people love. I must give credit to the organizers for pulling off such a wonderful event. We are truly blessed to have companies like By Grace Kitchens and Accessories that care about the community.” She said

An urgent call must be made, all efforts by all Malawians to free the Public Broadcasting Unit, and allow democracy reign in the country. It has been 31 years (as long as the one party reign of former President, Dr. H. Kamuzu Banda was in power), and still the ugly head of autocracy stands tall at the Public Broadcasting sector called the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) – complete with radio and television units. While Banda rule lasted 31 years, the reign of terror through the broadcasting unit in our lands is like the dancing in the mud chickens my Grandma used to tell us when we were young.
Every five or 10 years, the ruling political party changes the head of this unit of communication, and is still a national security asset. The recent Director General George Kasakula saga, is notice that “enough is enough, Malawi must finalize the media landscape, and truly free and democratize the delivery of information at the Public Broadcaster. Immediately.
The country has come a long way to this moment and it saddens me to see how far lagging behind our national Public Broadcaster (MBC) seems to be. To President Mutharika, please allow me to apologize to you. Publically, on behalf of my fellow media captains and fellow Malawians, we stand here to say to you Bwana President Mutharika that we are sorry.
“We apologize to you and your fellow former presidents (Muluzi, Banda, and now Chakwera), that following the ushering in of our democratic culture after the 1993 Referendum victory, we inadvertently allowed the MBC, our Public Broadcaster, to remain behind in the dung heap of autocracy. For another 31 years, the country witnessed the reign of terror the Broadcaster of the people of Malawi, remained under the control of political parties sitting at the State House. We are so sorry.”
How did we get here? In the run-up to the 1993 Referendum elections and consequently the multi-party elections of 1994, then Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission, Iron Lady Justice Anastasia Msosa ordered the Public utility to open up its station to the opposition political parties. It was refreshing to hear Chakufwa Chihana, Bakili Muluzi, Sam Mangwazu speak from this public utility.
As the first Malawi journalist to interview the new democratic President Muluzi along with my fellow journalist BBC Veronique Edwards, we encouraged the new president to pave the way for the culture that Malawians had witnessed to flourish.
He promised us that he would pave the way for democratizing and allowing all voices to continue during his rule as president. It pleased President Muluzi to appoint me to be a board member of the MBC, along with Stambuli, Alfred Mtenje, and Aubrey Kachingwe (Malawi’s first local Director General). Uncle Kachingwe, Professor Mtenje and I got yanked out of the board for dare to suggest that the Public Broadcaster should also allow former Malawi Congress Party President Gwanda Chakuamba to have a say or respond to the castigations he was getting as a daily course on the public utility.
Other DG who sat in this dicey hot seat have been Patrick Khoza, Benson Tembo, and Bright Malopa, to name a few. Many Malawians will recall how each DG has played the fiddle of pleasing the masters (during Banda time, it was the single voice; today any party officials can reign brimstone on the public utility). This reign of terror, which this week Malawians witnessed how two individuals stormed the Public Broadcasting House, and forced the DG to apologize for insulting President Mutharika.
While on the one hand many are surprised at the audacity of the two gentlemen, but on the other hand we must all be very concerned that a member of the public can get all the way to the head of the Public Broadcasting Unit and force the man, an employee of the people of Malawi, to apologize. It should scare all Malawians that our national structure (that in other countries is the instrument through which coup d’états are used to announce takeovers of government.
Let all of us on all sides be truly warned. Police and military, please help us guard our national security assets.
Lastly, this message is to fellow journo George Kasakula and future director generals of the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation, and political stewards and government officials, and the political party supporting peoples, the MBC (radio and television) are public utility. They exist to serve the people, all 22 million of us. They do not belong to any political party, thus no political person, not even the president, vice president, or cabinet minister should interfere or command the airing of stories for their benefit.
The Public Broadcaster exists and survives with funds from taxpayers. All 22 million taxpayers. So, Mr. Kasakula, his fellow directors, and employees of the MBC work for the people of Malawi, and not the politicians. Let it be repeated: as a Public Utility (Broadcaster), MBC employees are employed by and for the people of Malawi.
Let the free press culture reign throughout all sectors of the Malawi media as enshrined in our Constitution! Let the free press culture reign in the Public Broadcaster known as the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC)!

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The government of Malawi has suspended three senior officials heading key statutory corporations, Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr. Justin Saidi has confirmed.
Those affected include George Kasakula, Director General of the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC); Daud Suleman, Director General of the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA); and Humphrey Mdyetseni, Chief Executive Officer of the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF).
Dr. Saidi stated that the decision was made to facilitate ongoing investigations but did not reveal the specific reasons behind the suspensions.
He emphasized that the move is part of the government’s continued effort to ensure accountability, transparency, and integrity within public institutions.
According to sources within Capital Hill, the suspensions come at a time when the government is strengthening oversight and performance monitoring of parastatal organizations.
The affected institutions — MBC, MACRA, and NEEF — play crucial roles in the country’s media, communications, and economic empowerment sectors, respectively.
MBC serves as the national public broadcaster, MACRA regulates the communications industry, while NEEF oversees financial inclusion and economic empowerment initiatives for small and medium enterprises.
Observers note that the simultaneous suspension of three top executives signals a broader effort by the Mutharika administration to address governance and operational challenges in public institutions.
Meanwhile, interim leaders are expected to be appointed to ensure continuity of operations in the affected organizations while investigations proceed.
The Office of the President and Cabinet has assured the public that the process will be conducted fairly and in accordance with established procedures.
As the investigations continue, Malawians await further clarification on the circumstances that led to the suspensions and the potential implications for the leadership of the country’s key parastatals.

This neo-noir black comedy comes from one half of the Coen brothers directing duo, Ethan Coen, and leans heavily into the brothers’ known wheelhouse of combining gripping crime narratives with wacky, even slapstick humor. Honey Don’t! received praise from critics for its performances and world-building, finding that its consistent gags and silliness often made up for its lackadaisical narrative. Still, Qualley’s performance was noted as a standout and well worth the watch.

Working alongside the enigmatic Alejandro (Benicio del Toro), Kate’s ideals are tested, and the lines between good and evil are blurred as she descends into the crime and chaos of the US-Mexican drug trade.
Masterful direction from Denis Villeneuve (Dune) and breathtaking cinematography from Roger Deakins come together to create an unflinching portrait of the gray area of human morality and the war on drugs. In addition to being a wonderfully directed and stylized film, Sicario’s narrative is taut and completely engrossing, further elevated by superb performances from the entire cast. At the 88th Academy Awards, the film received nominations for Best Cinematography, Best Original Score and Best Sound Editing.

While Borderline’s plot is a standard psycho stalker story that Fatal Attraction perfected nearly four decades ago, what elevates the movie is the performances of the two leads. As Sofia, Weaving adds yet another formidable female to her scream queen resume, while Nicholson shows a talent for lunacy that he must have inherited from his famous father, Jack. He has a gift for playing men with madness that isn’t too far off from The Shining’s Jack Torrance.

Getting back into the dating scene is a nightmare for Violet Gates (Meghann Fahy) in Drop. After years of being a single widowed mother, Violet’s young son, Toby (Jacob Robinson), and Violet’s sister, Jen (Violett Beane), encourage her to go on a date with Henry Campbell (Brandon Sklenar), a man she met through a dating site.
Although Violet’s date with Henry starts well, she is harassed by strange and alarming messages on her phone that ultimately threaten the life of her son. And if Violet doesn’t cooperate with Toby’s captor and act against Henry, then she may never see her son alive again.

The Outfit takes place almost exclusively in the tailor shop of Leonard Burling (Mark Rylance) in 1956. Despite his misgivings, Leonard even lets Richie’s girlfriend, Mable Shaun (Zoey Deutch), work at the shop.
Things start to unravel when Richie shows up at the shop badly wounded alongside his top enforcer, Francis (Johnny Flynn). The Boyle family is convinced that they have a rat in the organization, and the proof is waiting in the shop. As Leonard soon discovers, that intel is also worth killing over.
