Malawi Supreme Court confirms business tycoon Thomson Mpinganjira’s freedom

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s Supreme Court of Appeal has formally confirmed business tycoon Thomson Mpinganjira’s case withdrawal and appeal removal.

This means the business tycoon is officially a free man from any criminal charges.

Mpinganjira appealed to the Supreme Court on September 10, 2021 conviction for offering advantages to public officers.

He was however subsequently released on bail in 2022 pending the determination of his appeal before the Supreme Court.

The withdrawal came after former President Lazarus Chakwera exercised his constitutional powers to grant Mpinganjira a presidential pardon during the country’s 61st Independence Day celebrations.

“Exams fees removal must also extended to private school learners”-Ntchisi South legislator Gamula dares Mutharika’s leadership

By Zakeyu Mamba

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-A renewed debate over Malawi’s examination fees has prompted calls for government action, with community leaders urging authorities to extend fee removal to private secondary school students.

The appeal follows concerns that the Ministry of Education’s current policy—removing exam fees only for public institutions—creates disparities among learners.

The independent Member of Parliament (MP) for Ntchisi South Constituency Peter Gamula in the discussion argued that students in private schools also contribute to national development, noting that their parents pay taxes that support public services.

Gamula: Private schools learners must also enjoy the free exams

He appealed to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leadership to review the policy so that all students, regardless of school type, can sit for national examinations without financial barriers.

The speaker further highlighted the growing pressure on Malawi’s education system resulting from increasing secondary school enrollment.

He emphasized the urgent need for additional technical colleges to absorb graduates seeking vocational and professional training.

According to his remarks, areas such as Ntchisi should be prioritized for new college infrastructure to support long-term national development goals.

Using a metaphor of “planting a tree for future growth,” he stressed that expanding education opportunities now would ensure a stronger generation of skilled workers in the years to come.

The speech also carried a political tone, with the speaker expressing gratitude to former parliamentarian Hon. Ulemu Chilaondwa for his past campaign contributions.

He encouraged unity among constituents, stating that collective effort is essential for sustained progress.

He concluded with an optimistic call for a brighter and more prosperous future for the constituency and the nation, emphasizing that investment in equitable education policies and infrastructure remains the cornerstone of Malawi’s development trajectory.

Below Deck’s Fraser Olender and Matt Rogers Are Dating, Andy Cohen Claims

Below Deck’s Fraser Olender and Matt Rogers are dating — at least, according to Andy Cohen.

“So Matt Rogers, I guess he’s public with Fraser from Below Deck,” Cohen, 57, said during the Monday, November 17, episode of Sirius XM’s Andy Cohen Live. “They are dating.”

Cohen added that Olender, 33, and Rogers, 35, were “together” at BravoCon 2025 in Las Vegas over the weekend.

“They were lovely together, I love them together. It was so cute,” Cohen gushed. “It was just great. They were so wonderful.”

‘Below Deck’ Renewed For Season 13: The Biggest Teasers From BravoCon Panel

In addition to Cohen’s speculation about the couple’s relationship status, Olender shared a photo of himself and Rogers on the red carpet at the event via Instagram on Monday.

The Below Deck chief stew also explained that he left BravoCon early on Sunday, November 16, after he was taken to the hospital because he was “having trouble breathing.”

“The Bravo/NBC angels swept me into an ER and suddenly I’m starring in my own medical thriller,” Olender captioned the slideshow from the weekend. “EKGs, X-rays, CAT scans all confirming that my heart and lungs are having a bit of a meltdown – on BravoCon weekend, out of all weekends. Fml.”

Olender added that he was joined by someone “very special” to make sure he was alright. He did not confirm the mystery person’s identity.

“A very special human stayed with me until 5am whilst I laid there useless, in agony, attached to multiple machines and pumped with the strongest meds,” he continued. “Sooo grateful for him, the nurses and the docs! I’m flying to London shortly to see specialists and to get this sorted.”

Rogers took to the comments section, calling Olender “healthy like an ox, unbreakable, hot, etc.”

Olender and Rogers have not publicly commented on the status of their relationship. Us Weekly has reached out to Rogers and Olender for comment.

BravoCon 2025 isn’t the first time Olender and Rogers have been spotted together. Earlier this month, Olender attended the Wicked: One Wonderful Night alongside Rogers. Rogers’ pal and “Las Culturistas” podcast cohost Bowen Yang, who stars in the musical film, performed during the TV special.

Below Deck’s Fraser Learned A Lot From Captain Sandy Despite Feeling ‘Hurt’

“One Wonderful Night, indeed 💚 @nbc If you know me, you know that Wicked is basically my religion so to SEE THIS LIVE was beyyyyyond,” Olender wrote via Instagram in November. “The performances; @fayedunaway crushing as Fiyero, @cynthiaerivo zooming over my head and @arianagrande serving sheer perfection, shook me to the core. One for the books, cannot wait to watch backkk 🙌🏼.”

Olender’s post included a carousel of images from the evening, which included a couple of snaps with Rogers. In one pic, Rogers had his arms wrapped around Olender while resting his head on the Bravo star’s shoulder. Another was a selfie of the pair looking cozy as they posed with Melissa Lehman.

Rogers was previously linked to musician Henry Koperski. Olender, for his part, was in a relationship during Below Deck season 12, which aired earlier this year. Olender revealed on the show that he saw his then-boyfriend five times a year due to the time restrictions of his job. After season 12 ended in September, Olender subtly confirmed he was single.

Editorial: Chakwera’s unshaken faith signals a renewed chapter for MCP, Malawi

When Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera addressed the nation in Lilongwe, what stood out most was his unwavering faith in God despite the party’s loss in the September 16, 2025 Presidential Election.

His message carried a tone of resilience and spiritual conviction, suggesting that defeat had not diminished his sense of purpose or calling.

Chakwera’s posture reflected the mindset of a leader who sees political setbacks not as endings but as moments of reflection and recalibration.

By grounding his message in faith, he reminded Malawians that leadership is not only about winning elections but also about maintaining moral clarity in difficult moments.

His remarks also hinted at a deliberate effort to steady the MCP during a period of uncertainty, projecting stability to supporters who may still be grappling with the election outcome.

Chakwera’s confidence in divine guidance suggested that he views MCP’s current challenges as temporary hurdles rather than permanent barriers.

This spiritual framing could help calm internal tensions within the party, particularly among factions that may be questioning the party’s direction post-election.

It also positioned Chakwera as a leader prepared to continue shaping Malawi’s political landscape, regardless of his position outside government.

In a country where faith strongly influences public perception, Chakwera’s message is likely to resonate widely among citizens who value humility and steadfastness in leadership.

His comments ultimately conveyed the image of a man unwilling to let political defeat define his legacy, choosing instead to reaffirm the values he believes will anchor both the party and the nation moving forward.

For many Malawians, this statement may serve as a reminder that leadership grounded in faith can be a source of national unity in times of political transition.
