After 32 years behind bars, TRUTH FINALLY SETS Mary Virginia Jones free

….A single mother’s decades-long struggle exposes the devastating human cost of wrongful convictions in the American justice system….

Mary Virginia Jones spent more than three decades in prison for crimes she did not commit.

She was a single mother living in Los Angeles when her life took a tragic turn in 1981.

Her then-abusive boyfriend implicated her in a robbery and first-degree murder, using her as a scapegoat in a desperate attempt to avoid a death sentence.

Despite her unwavering claims of innocence, she was sentenced to 25 years to life and sent to the Central California Women’s Facility.

Her conviction relied heavily on false testimony and manipulation, leaving her trapped in a system that failed to protect her.

For 32 painful years, she remained incarcerated, separated from her loved ones and forced to endure the consequences of a crime orchestrated by the man who abused her.

Throughout her imprisonment, Mary continued to insist that she had no role in the crime and had been coerced into compliance by fear and intimidation.

Her case remained largely unnoticed until it reached the attention of the Loyola Project for the Innocent, a legal team dedicated to correcting miscarriages of justice.

Attorneys at LPI launched a thorough investigation into her conviction, uncovering the lies, coercion, and prosecutorial oversights that had contributed to her wrongful imprisonment.

They argued passionately that her conviction represented a deep failure of the justice system.

Their findings eventually reached the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office, prompting a reconsideration of her case.

In 2013, the DA acknowledged the overwhelming evidence of her innocence and supported the request to overturn her conviction.

On the day of her release, Mary Virginia Jones walked out of prison at 74 years old, having spent 32 years, 7 months, and 23 days behind bars.

Her first steps into the outside world were emotional, overwhelming, and filled with disbelief.

She emerged into a society transformed by decades of technological and cultural change, a world far removed from the one she had known.

Her story quickly became a powerful example for advocates fighting against wrongful convictions and the deep-rooted flaws within the criminal justice system.

Mary’s case stands as a reminder of the necessity for continuous reform, compassion, and vigilance in protecting the vulnerable.

Her life, though scarred by injustice, continues to inspire movements demanding accountability and fairness.

“Mutharika Government will to let communities choose their own leaders”-assures Chihana

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Malawi’s Second Vice President, Enock Chihana, has emphasized the importance of community-led leadership, stating that the government will allow communities to choose their own traditional leaders to promote unity and development.

Chihana made the remarks during the Gonapamhanya Cultural Ceremony in Rumphi, an annual event celebrating Tumbuka culture.

“We want to promote peace and unity among various groups in the country to enhance development. One of the issues that causes division among our people is the imposition of chiefs,” Chihana said.

He also assured Malawians that the government is committed to addressing hunger and economic challenges, including foreign exchange shortages and fuel difficulties.

The ceremony, themed “Culture and Integrity: The Backbone of Development,” brought together traditional leaders, politicians, and delegates from Malawi and neighboring countries.

Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe highlighted the event’s role in strengthening unity among the Tumbuka people and other tribes.

The government has purchased maize for distribution to households in need, and Chihana urged continued support for efforts to preserve Tumbuka culture.

Sharp Focus on Mutharika’s 2025 comeback: Mandate, expectations, path to measurable governance

…..Malawi’s voters seek proven leadership to tackle economic challenges, social pressures, and governance deficits, with performance evaluation to follow a realistic timeframe….

On 16 September 2025, Malawians went to the polls in what became one of the most consequential elections in the nation’s recent history.

The Malawi Electoral Commission officially declared Peter Mutharika, former president and veteran politician, as the winner of the presidential race, marking a remarkable comeback in his political career.

Mutharika secured 2,536,000 votes, or 57% of the total, outpacing Lazarus Chakwera, who received 1,465,000 votes, equivalent to 33%, illustrating a decisive shift in voter sentiment.

For many citizens, this result was not just a political victory for a familiar figure but a clear rejection of governance failures witnessed over the preceding years.

Malawians voted for Mutharika in 2025 for several key reasons, chief among them a desire to return to what they perceive as proven leadership, experience, and competent economic management.

The electorate’s decision reflected deep-seated frustrations with rising living costs, shortages of basic commodities, intermittent power supply, and perceived lapses in government responsiveness under the outgoing administration.

Inflation has been a persistent concern for Malawians, with the official rate approaching 30%, severely affecting household budgets in a country where the majority earn below K3,473.16 per day.

Fuel scarcity has compounded daily hardships, disrupting transportation, trade, and basic access to services, particularly for rural communities dependent on public transport.

A shortage of foreign currency has also hampered importation of essential goods, contributing to high food prices, limited availability of medicines, and challenges for businesses operating across the country.

Corruption has remained a persistent issue, eroding public trust and limiting the effectiveness of government programs, creating a vacuum in which citizens increasingly sought alternative leadership.

Mutharika’s campaign mantra of “A Return to Proven Leadership” resonated with voters, emphasizing his track record in stabilizing the economy during his previous term from 2014 to 2020.

This narrative, anchored in experience and practical governance, stood in contrast to promises perceived as unfulfilled during Chakwera’s tenure, prompting voters to revert to leadership that had previously delivered results.

Beyond economic considerations, many Malawians were motivated by a desire for political stability and continuity, seeking leadership capable of navigating both domestic and international challenges effectively.

Peter Mutharika’s background as a professor of law and seasoned statesman reinforced his image as a leader capable of bringing order, legal acumen, and strategic oversight to national governance.

His political lineage, including the presidency of his late brother Bingu wa Mutharika, also provided a symbolic anchor for voters familiar with the Mutharika family’s role in Malawi’s political landscape.

Citizens entering this election were acutely aware of the stakes, recognizing that governance is measured not by rhetoric but by the delivery of tangible results impacting daily life.

The expectations placed on Mutharika are therefore significant, spanning economic reform, social welfare improvement, infrastructure development, and the establishment of transparent, accountable governance practices.

Malawians also anticipate that Mutharika will address structural challenges in public institutions, including the judiciary, the police service, and local government authorities, to improve efficiency and responsiveness.

Healthcare, education, and agricultural productivity remain pressing issues requiring targeted interventions to alleviate poverty and enhance quality of life for millions.

As the country’s president, Mutharika must also confront fuel supply shortages, which have disrupted both urban and rural livelihoods, affecting businesses, hospitals, schools, and households alike.

Citizens are expecting a pragmatic approach to resource allocation, ensuring that government spending prioritizes sectors that deliver immediate and measurable benefits to the population.

The electorate has also demonstrated interest in leadership that can stabilize the macroeconomic environment, particularly by controlling inflation, improving foreign exchange reserves, and promoting investment opportunities.

While public enthusiasm for Mutharika’s return is high, it is tempered by the understanding that governance outcomes require time to materialize.

A realistic and fair appraisal of Mutharika’s administration must allow a minimum of two years before comprehensive evaluation.

This period provides sufficient time for policy implementation, project execution, and measurable outcomes to be observed and assessed objectively.

Any performance judgment conducted in less than two years risks being superficial, influenced by speculation, partisan opinion, or short-term fluctuations rather than substantive evidence.

During this two-year timeframe, Malawians should focus on monitoring key performance indicators, including inflation reduction, employment generation, energy reliability, agricultural output, and social service delivery.

The government’s ability to tackle corruption and improve public sector accountability will also serve as a critical measure of administrative effectiveness.

Public perception of Mutharika’s governance will evolve in proportion to his capacity to translate electoral promises into concrete actions that improve living standards.

Citizens are particularly attentive to the DPP’s manifesto commitments, which include economic stabilization, social welfare expansion, infrastructure development, and promotion of good governance practices.

Mutharika’s leadership style, combining strategic oversight with delegation to competent ministers and technocrats, will determine the efficiency of policy execution.

Transparency and communication are essential. Malawians expect consistent updates on government decisions, progress of developmental projects, and allocation of resources to enhance trust and foster civic engagement.

Political analysts emphasize that measured evaluation fosters democracy by encouraging evidence-based critique rather than reactionary criticism rooted in emotion or partisanship.

Patience in observing the government’s performance also ensures that Mutharika’s administration is judged fairly, based on accomplishments rather than short-term challenges or inherited difficulties.

The two-year appraisal period provides an opportunity to assess not only immediate relief measures but also structural reforms designed to deliver long-term national benefits.

Voters have made clear that they are invested in leadership that balances short-term interventions with sustainable policies that address systemic challenges.

For instance, stabilization of the economy requires fiscal prudence, monetary management, and strategic investment in productive sectors, all of which take time to yield visible results.

Similarly, improvements in healthcare and education systems will require the allocation of resources, policy enforcement, and monitoring mechanisms before outcomes can be judged.

Infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, and energy supply expansions, also need time to be implemented, completed, and evaluated for effectiveness.

By allowing a fair timeframe, Malawians create conditions for governance to be assessed on substance rather than perception or rumor.

The electorate’s decision to return Mutharika to power reflects confidence in his capacity to address these challenges, drawing from prior experience and a track record of past successes.

Public celebrations following the election, including street festivities, rallies, and civic engagement, demonstrate the enthusiasm and hope invested in his leadership.

Citizens’ perception of Mutharika will depend on his ability to meet the promises embedded in his campaign platform and to deliver practical solutions to urgent issues.

In the coming years, the DPP administration must focus on reducing inflation, ensuring fuel availability, stabilizing foreign exchange reserves, enhancing agricultural productivity, and improving service delivery.

Effectiveness in these areas will define public satisfaction and political legitimacy, shaping both domestic confidence and international perception.

Malawians have shown maturity in emphasizing the need for measured evaluation, recognizing that governance is a long-term commitment rather than a series of reactive measures.

Evidence-based appraisal will provide insights into the DPP’s achievements, challenges encountered, and areas requiring policy adjustment.

Civil society, media, and citizens themselves play a vital role in monitoring progress, documenting outcomes, and contributing to an informed dialogue around governance.

Patience, coupled with accountability, ensures that performance reviews are grounded in reality rather than influenced by partisan bias or transient frustrations.

The 2025 election thus represents both an opportunity and a responsibility — for Mutharika to deliver on his promises, and for Malawians to observe, evaluate, and hold leadership accountable fairly.

The mandate is clear: lead decisively, address pressing challenges, and stabilize the nation’s economy while implementing reforms that benefit citizens across all sectors.

Measured assessment after two years will allow Malawians to determine whether the DPP administration has succeeded in restoring public confidence, improving living standards, and demonstrating effective governance.

Until that time, the emphasis must remain on supportive scrutiny, evidence-based evaluation, and constructive engagement with government policies.

Peter Mutharika’s return to State House signals the people’s trust in his experience, legal acumen, and political insight.

The electorate has spoken: they demand competent, practical, and results-driven governance.

How well this mandate is fulfilled will shape Malawi’s trajectory for the remainder of the DPP’s term and influence future democratic expectations.

Two years is the minimum period required for a fair, comprehensive, and realistic performance appraisal of the administration.

Only then can Malawians form an informed judgment on whether the DPP and President Mutharika have delivered on their promise to improve the economy, reduce corruption, and enhance social welfare.

Until that point, the emphasis must remain on supportive scrutiny, evidence-based evaluation, and constructive engagement with government policies.

Malawi’s Flames draw against Lesotho in friendly match

BLEOMFONTEIN-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, were once again held by Lesotho after a hard-fought 0-0 draw in an international friendly match played on Saturday at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, South Africa.

The result means Malawi’s winless run against Lesotho has now stretched to eight matches in all competitions, with the Flames last tasting victory over Likuena in 2009.

Earlier this year, Lesotho again edged Malawi 1-0 in the COSAFA Cup, deepening the frustration surrounding this fixture.

Malawi started the game with intensity, creating two early chances within two minutes, Chifundo Mphasi saw his effort blocked by a defender before Lloyd Njaliwa tested the goalkeeper, but the Lesotho shot-stopper reacted well.

Light showers made the pitch slippery, yet both sides continued to play at a high tempo as they searched for the opening goal.

At the quarter hour, Alick Lungu went down following a collision with Rapuleng, prompting a brief stoppage. After receiving treatment, he returned to the pitch and the Flames regained momentum, pushing forward with purpose but still failing to convert their half chances.

The first half ended with the match goalless despite the end-to-end exchanges.

Malawi made early changes at the start of the second half, with Malango Mayele and Nickson Nyasulu coming in for Lungu and Patrick Mwaungulu.

The Flames resumed play with the same attacking intent, maintaining pressure and controlling large portions of the game.

Mayele came close in the 64th minute with a strike from outside the box but it was blocked by Lesotho’s well-organised defence.

In the final stages, more substitutions were made as Gabadinho Mhango made way for Chikumbutso Salima in the 78th minute and Robert Saizi replaced Chifundo Mphasi in nine minutes later.

Despite the changes, Malawi still lacked the final touch in the box, allowing Lesotho to hold firm and absorb pressure.

Three minutes of added time offered both teams a chance to steal the win but neither side managed to break the deadlock.

Flames coach Kalisto Pasuwa admitted after the match that the team wasted good opportunities, saying it was a tactical but challenging game.

The two sides will meet again on Tuesday at the same venue, giving Malawi another opportunity to try and end their long-standing winless streak against Lesotho.

Lisa Vanderpump Subtly Shades Prince Harry at BravoCon: ‘I’m a Loyal Brit’

Lisa Vanderpump didn’t mince words while unexpectedly discussing Prince Harry during her appearance at BravoCon 2025 in Las Vegas.

Noted Bravo fan Jerry O’Connell kicked off the Saturday, November 15, panel by sharing that his wife, Rebecca Romijn, recently flew on a plane with Harry, 41.

“My wife said, ‘Yeah, it was exciting, [but] not as exciting [as] when Lisa Vanderpump sat two rows back,’” O’Connell, 51, quipped.

Lisa, 65, had a succinct response, chiming in, “Well, I’m a loyal Brit. He isn’t, right? Come on, you know, I’m telling the truth.”

Lisa Vanderpump Talks Untold ‘RHOBH’ Secrets: Why She Once Wanted to Leave

Harry, the son of the current king of England, famously grew up in the U.K., but has since moved to California with wife Meghan Markle and their two children. Harry and Meghan, 44, opted to move across the pond in 2020 after they stepped down from their duties as senior working royals. In that time, Harry has fought to obtain adequate security protections for his family whenever they visit. The Spare author recently lost his legal case on appeal.

As for Lisa, she also grew up in merry ole England before settling stateside and opening a slew of successful restaurants with her husband, Ken Todd.

“I think Beverly Hills is really my home, but I work here [in Las Vegas] so much, so it’s much easier for me to have my little Villa and Rosa [restaurants] here,” she said on Saturday. “I love Vegas. I think it’s the playground of the world, and growing up in London, in a suburb, when you’d come to Vegas, you’d never see anything like it. I still think it’s like that. It’s innovative, it’s moving forward, I feel safe here [and] it’s got this incredible energy.”

Amid Lisa’s entrepreneurial success, she joined the cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills from season 1 to 9. While Lisa has fully moved on from carrying her diamond, she doesn’t have any grudges with the cast.

“You know what, I just saw Rachel Zoe. That’s the closest I’ve got to any of them. That’s about it,” she said, referring to the 54-year-old stylist who recently joined season 15. “I’m not going back. I did that. I did that for 10 years, and that was so many years ago. I’ve moved on and hopefully they have too.”

She added of her previous castmates, “I wish them well, I don’t really have a relationship with them, but my life is extraordinarily busy, and I personally don’t have any type of negativity.”

Instead, Lisa has led her own reality TV show, Vanderpump Rules, for nearly 12 seasons. The newest batch of episodes will feature an all-new group of hostesses and bartenders at her SUR bar in Hollywood.

“Some of these people have worked for me for years,” she teased of the new cast members. “And then, there’s a couple of others to freshen it up and ignite it a little, but I really think you’re gonna fall in love with them because they are naughty, they’re playful, they’re funny and they’re bloody gorgeous. It’s a great show, and I think Bravo is really excited about it, as am I. And it’s time to tell a different story.”

In addition to VPR, Lisa has also starred on the two-season Vanderpump Villa docuseries as she brings her hospitality prowess to various European destinations.

When choosing I’m looking for warm plates with an animal protein like chicken, steak or salmon with veggies and sweet potato. Or a salad with similar ingredients. “I do feel confident and secure in who I am, however, I feel like there’s still always a pressure [to look a certain way],” Bure exclusively told Us Weekly earlier this month. “If my husband loves me and tells me I look great, then that’s all that matters.”

The actress also reflected on a decision she made this September when she took down a swimsuit photo from her Instagram. “I don’t need for people to pick apart my body. I’m like, ‘That’s fine, you couldn’t have an opinion. I’m just going to take it away so you don’t get to say what you want about that part of my life.’ And that’s fine,” she explained.

“People are always going to have an opinion, and sometimes you forget that for a moment because you’re like, ‘Hey, happy moment. Gonna share something,’” Cameron Bure added in the same interview. “And then you’re like, ‘Oh, why did I share it?’”

Ultimately, she “felt like it was easier to take it down, because I don’t need to have controversy over it.”

Also in September, she shared another series of workout secrets after a commenter pointed out that she was looking “extra toned these days.”

Why Candace Cameron Bure Has Been ‘Fighting’ the Decision to Get Botox

“I’ve increased my weight lifting program. Heavy weights 4x a week, fine tuning and cardio 2x a week. I train with my hubby (love our gym time together) and still use @kirastokesfit app and FT training with Kira!” Candace wrote, a reference to her athletic coach, Kira Stokes. “She also has ‘gym time’ on the app where you can follow a heavier weighted program there.”

She added, “I’ve been super consistent the past year and finally seeing the changes I’ve desired.”

How to Watch Sunday’s NFL Football Games Without YouTube TV (November 16)

Disney and YouTube TV are in a protracted fight over carriage fees, and all of the Disney-owned channels have been pulled from the latter.

That includes ABC and ESPN. But the good news is that the vast majority of the NFL’s weekly games are broadcast on network television.

Even if you can’t get ABC through YouTube TV, you can still stream the channel for free.

Now, we’ll tell you where you can watch all of Sunday’s football games without YouTube TV. The only games you may have to pay for are on the NFL+ streaming service or ESPN.

Going Through Super Bowl Withdrawals? Watch These Football Movies, TV Shows

Is It Worth Getting NFL+?

It depends on how dedicated you are to the NFL. This is the way to stream the NFL Network, which usually broadcasts at least one live game per week. It also has ad-free highlights and access to NFL Films’ library of documentaries. Standard access is $6.99, while NFL+ Premium is $14.99 and includes access to NFL Red Zone.

You can sign up for NFL+ here.

Can I Still Watch ESPN?

Yes. ESPN is still the juggernaut of cable and streaming sports channels, and it’s included on most of the primary live TV options outside of YouTube TV.

Where Can I Watch ESPN for Free?

For hardcore sports fans, fuboTV may be your best option. It has a free trial that lets you access multiple sports channels, including ESPN, ESPN2 and ACC Network, as well as a complimentary subscription to ESPN Unlimited and a handful of fubo-only sports channels.

Having said that, fuboTV has a very high monthly subscription fee: $84.99. But if you keep the service beyond your free trial, you’ll get the first month of your subscription for $54.99 before the price reverts to its normal rate.

To sign up for fuboTV’s free trial, click here.

Where Can I Watch ESPN for a Low Price?

Sling TV is a more affordable option than fuboTV, but ESPN is not included in the standard $46 monthly tier. To get ESPN, ESPN2, and other related channels, you’ll need to upgrade to Sling Orange for an additional $4.99 a month. That’s still cheaper than fuboTV, but not by much.

To subscribe to Sling TV, click here.

Where Else Can I Stream ESPN?

One thing we can guarantee is that ESPN won’t be pulled from Hulu any time soon, since both are owned by Disney. Hulu offers a live TV subscription for $89.99, which is far from cheap. But it includes ESPN and a subscription to Disney+. New subscribers can get a temporary discounted rate of $64.99 per month, but that will only extend through the first three months of your term.

To sign up for Hulu + Live TV, click here.

Should I Consider Signing Up to ESPN Unlimited?

If all you want is ESPN, the standalone app is $29.99, and it includes live access to all of the ESPN-related channels.

To subscribe to ESPN Unlimited, click here.

Can I Watch NFL Games With Regular Cable?

Of course you can. In fact, that’s almost always your best option if you’re watching games at home. You can still stream the games when you’re out of the house. But for pure comfort, this is the way to go.
