The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has graduated 10,000 newly trained constables following the successful completion of their intensive training across various Police Colleges and Training Institutions nationwide.

The Passing Out Parade, held simultaneously on September 7, 2025, across all designated training centres, marks a major step in the Force’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its manpower and enhance operational efficiency in line with global policing standards.

Addressing the recruits, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, commended their dedication and perseverance throughout the rigorous training. He urged them to uphold the values of honour, diligence, and patriotism instilled during their course.

The recruits underwent comprehensive instruction in modern policing, ethical conduct, and field operations tailored to address the complex challenges of contemporary law enforcement.

Heartland FC has distanced itself from its former General Manager, Promise Uchenna Nwachukwu, declaring that he no longer has any link or authority to represent the club in any capacity.

In a statement signed by the club’s Technical Manager, Emmanuel Amuneke, Heartland clarified that Nwachukwu ceased to be part of the club’s management since July 2024. Lagos State Government has honoured 750 public servants, including six permanent secretaries, for their commitment and decades of meritorious service to the state.

The Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL Plc) has facilitated over N70 billion in commercial financing for agribusinesses as of the third quarter (Q3) of 2025, marking its strongest annual performance since inception.

In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja, the organisation said it remains confident of achieving its N150 billion target for 2025, reflecting renewed momentum in agricultural lending and investor confidence in the sector.

According to NIRSAL, since it began operations in 2013, the latest result accounts for nearly a quarter of its cumulative N270 billion facilitated for agriculture and agribusiness to date. The institution said this milestone represents ‘an achievement that reflects the impact of NIRSAL’s revamped strategy under its new Board and Executive Management.’

The statement observed that this turnaround comes at a crucial time when bank lending to agriculture had been in steady decline. ‘Bank lending to agriculture fell from 6.18 per cent of aggregate lending in 2022 to 4.82 per cent in 2024, while sectoral growth slowed from 2.5 per cent to 1.7 per cent within the same period,’ it said.

NIRSAL noted that the application of its signature tools for value chain modelling, alongside targeted technical support and risk-sharing frameworks has helped restore lender confidence in agribusiness financing.

‘By applying its signature tools for value chain modelling to address identified issues, providing technical support to agribusinesses and financial institutions, all while deploying its risk-sharing frameworks, NIRSAL has restored lender confidence, thus channelling fresh funds into key value chains, including grains, cocoa, shea, and livestock,’ the statement added.

On impact, the institution said the financing surge has led to a tangible rise in local production and improved trade performance. ‘There has been an improvement in local production across key commodities and a positive balance of trade for agriculture, with over 32 per cent of the facilitated sum directly supporting value-added commodity export. Most notably, agriculture’s share of bank lending has risen again to 5.33 per cent as of May 2025, reflecting renewed interest from financiers,’ it stated.

NIRSAL also revealed that two newly licensed banks have entered the agricultural finance space relying on its frameworks, contributing to the N70 billion already facilitated this year.

Commenting on the milestone, NIRSAL Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Sa’ad Hamidu, said the result demonstrates the viability of sustainable agricultural financing. ‘N70 billion may appear modest compared to the size of Nigeria’s agricultural financing needs, but the significance is profound. It proves that agriculture can be commercially and sustainably financed. With the right blend of capital, technical support, and risk mitigation, the sector can become more productive, resilient, and globally competitive,’ Hamidu said.

He noted that the organisation’s confidence in achieving its N150 billion annual target remains strong, given that the busiest period for agricultural financing is yet to begin.

‘This is not yet the peak of the harvest season when merchants typically seek credit for offtake and storage, and when super agro-dealers stock up on fertilisers and inputs ahead of the next planting cycle. Therefore, the opportunities still to come give us every reason for optimism,’ he explained.

NIRSAL stated that beyond facilitating loans, it is reshaping the entire agricultural lending ecosystem through an integrated model that covers prospect identification, deal structuring, business advisory, and credit guarantees. The model, according to the organisation, ‘handholds agribusinesses from loan origination to disbursement,’enabling them to transition from unbankable enterprises to sustainable borrowers.

The statement noted that several agribusinesses that once relied on NIRSAL’s intervention have now evolved into regular clients of commercial banks, with lenders gaining deeper understanding of agricultural value chains and greater confidence in financing them. ‘This proves that the NIRSAL model is a pathway to long-term sustainability in the agriculture sector,’ it said.

The N70 billion facilitated so far, NIRSAL explained, is the result of extensive capacity-building efforts across financial institutions. The 1986/92 set of the Government College Ibadan has intensified plans for the closed table tennis championship tagged ”Battle of the Century.”

The table tennis event, proposed to be annual competition is part of the set’s role of giving back to the school project.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the House of Representatives to approve a plan to borrow $2.34 billion from external sources to fund part of the 2025 budget and refinance Nigeria’s maturing Eurobonds.

In a letter dated September 22, 2025, and read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during Tuesday’s plenary, the President said the borrowing is needed to cover part of the budget deficit and ensure Nigeria meets its debt obligations.

According to him, the request is in line with sections 21(1) and 27(1) of the Debt Management Office (Establishment) Act, 2003. The plan includes a new external loan of about $1.23 billion (N1.84 trillion) provided in the 2025 Appropriation Act and another $1.12 billion to refinance Eurobonds maturing in November 2025.

President Tinubu said the funds would be sourced through Eurobond issuance, loan syndications, bridge financing, or direct borrowing from international financial institutions.

He explained that refinancing the Eurobond, originally issued in 2018, would help Nigeria avoid default when it matures later this year.

The President also sought approval to issue a $500 million debut Sovereign Sukuk (an Islamic bond) in the international market. He said Nigeria has successfully raised over N1.39 trillion from domestic Sukuk issues since 2017 to fund road and infrastructure projects and now wants to explore international opportunities.

Tinubu added that the international Sukuk would help Nigeria attract new investors, access cheaper funding, and support major infrastructure projects. The facility may come with a credit guarantee from the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC), a member of the Islamic Development Bank Group.

He assured lawmakers that the Ministry of Finance and the Debt Management Office will work with financial advisers to secure the best terms for the borrowings, which will depend on market conditions at the time of issuance.

Big Brother Naija Season 10 winner, Imisi, has revealed her admiration for Nollywood star Funke Akindele, describing the filmmaker as her ‘number one mentor.’

Speaking to journalists during her prize presentation in Lagos, the reality star expressed her desire to work with Akindele in the near future.

‘Yes, Funke Akindele is my number one mentor. I hope to work with her someday,’ Imisi said.

The reality TV winner, who recently clinched the N150 million grand prize, noted that Akindele’s creativity, resilience, and consistent success in the Nigerian movie industry have been a source of inspiration to her.

The Senate on Wednesday observed a minute silence in honour of the late Senator Solomon Ewuga, former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State and Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The upper chamber also extended its condolences to the people of Nasarawa North Senatorial District and the government of Nasarawa State over his passing. It further resolved to send a delegation to commiserate with the deceased’s family and the state government.

These resolutions followed the adoption of a motion titled ‘Demise of Senator Solomon Ewuga CON (19th June, 1955 – 23rd September, 2025)’, sponsored by Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo (SDP-Nasarawa South).

In his lead debate, Senator Onawo described Ewuga’s death at the age of 70 as a great loss to the nation, recalling his exemplary service and dedication to public duty.

He highlighted Ewuga’s distinguished career, noting that he served Nigeria with diligence, integrity, and vision – as Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator representing Nasarawa North, Minister of State for the FCT, and later as a revered elder statesman whose counsel guided successive administrations.

Onawo praised the late Ewuga’s lifelong commitment to peace, unity, and development, particularly in education, youth empowerment, and infrastructure.

He also lauded Ewuga’s mentorship of young leaders, promotion of inter-ethnic harmony, and advocacy for good governance, describing him as an icon of public service and a bridge-builder within Nasarawa State and beyond.

The Senate noted that his contributions to national development and humanity left indelible marks on the political and socio-economic landscape of Nasarawa State and the nation at large.

He further said that the Senate is concerned that, without a deliberate effort to preserve his legacy, future generations may not fully appreciate his contributions to the growth and stability of the Nigerian federation.

He said that Senator Ewuga was a Distinguished Patriot, Statesman, and Public Servant whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.

The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, Senator Enyinnaya

Abaribe, Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, Senator Danjuma Goje, Senator Garuba Musa Maidoki (Kebbi South), and former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Simon Lalong, paid glowing tributes to the late Ewuga.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio also eulogised the deceased.

He said that Ewuga served Nigeria – ‘was among the first set of deputy governors, minister of state for FCT, and an orator.’

He commiserated with the family of the deceased and the government and people of Nasarawa state.
