Popular Fuji musician, Adewale Lawal, is in a joyous mood as his daughter, Mistural Ayomide Lawal, has graduated from a prestigious university in the United States.

The graduation ceremony, which took place at Army Basic Combat Fort Jackson Columbia, South Carolina, turned into a success as family, friends, and fans of the musician flooded social media with congratulatory messages.

In a brief chat, the proud father who is also the president Fuji Musicians Association of America (FUMAA), expressed gratitude to God and appreciation to everyone who supported his daughter’s academic journey. ‘This is a proud moment for our family. Education is a legacy, and I’m glad my daughter is making us proud,’ he said.

The Fuji star is known not only for his musical achievements but also for his strong advocacy for education among the youth.

The celebration continues at the family residence, with close friends and associates in attendance.

Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Anambra State, Dr Elizabeth Agwu has challenged women to build confidence in themselves to be recognized.

Agwu stated this on Friday at the validation meeting on Project IMPACT baseline study finding on Persons With Disabilities and Women’s Political Aspiration in Elective Position.

The initiative is being implemented by Social and Integral Development Center (SIDEC), in partnership with Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room supported by the UK-FCDO.

The REC said the problem of women was not in the number of slots they were given, but in realizing their capacity towards contribution to nation building.

She cited her numerous feats achieved through various positions she had occupied over the years, challenging women not to underrate themselves.

She said, ‘I don’t believe in women’s liberation. Women must have confidence in themselves and recognize they can.

‘Don’t wait for the men to give you a chance. Surely they’ll give us a quota but those slots can’t be enough as the one we give to ourselves.

‘It’s not to give you a chance but for you to believe you can do it. We can change the narratives by changing our orientation. Let’s begin to give our girl child the orientation so they can compete favourably with the men.’

Earlier, Executive Director, SIDEC, Ugochi Ehiahuruike said the project was to promote inclusive participation of women, youth, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in governance and combat disinformation.

‘Through this validation process, we will present key findings and collect feedback to strengthen the report’s accuracy and relevance.

‘We will build consensus on baseline indicators to track project progress; foster shared ownership and credibility among stakeholders,’ she added.

Chairman, Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD), Anambra State Chapter, Ugochukwu Okeke described the engagement as timely and strategic, as well as call for action.

‘For too long, the voices of women and persons with disabilities have been underrepresented in leadership and decision-making spaces, despite their proven abilities, resilience, and contributions to nation-building,’ he added.

The Chief of Staff and Media Adviser to Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola otherwise known as Yayi, Kayode Odunaro, has been installed as the Osorun of Isaga-Orile Kingdom, in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The Osorun title holder is one of the kingmakers in the ancient kingdom.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after he was installed at the weekend by the Onisaga of Isaga-Orile Kingdom, Oba Joseph Oladele Olusoji Tella, Odunaro, explained that the chieftaincy title belongs to his lineage, adding that the position was last held by his uncle who died in 1988, having been installed in 1958.

He stated further that the title would bring him closer to his roots and participate more in activities of Isaga traditional council, particularly in the selection of a new traditional ruler in the town.

Odunaro, who is also the Baa’royin of Imala Kingdom, said though he holds other traditional titles, the latest one is unique and it will demand high responsibility from him.

While expressing appreciation to Oba Tella, Isaga-Orile Traditional Council and the Osorun Family, the erstwhile Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Olusegun Osoba, declared that he would bring the experience he had garnered as the spokesperson to three past administrations in Ogun, to bear on the new title.

‘I am delighted that I have just been installed as the Osorun of Isaga-Orile Kingdom. This is a very important traditional title in the kingdom as Osorun is one of the kingmakers.

‘The title belongs to our family; my late uncle was installed in 1958 and held the title till he passed in 1988. So, for decades, there was a vacancy in the position of Osorun. Therefore, I am highly elated that I am feeling the vacant position today after so many years of interregnum.

‘For me, it is a higher call to traditional responsibility and I will ensure that I bring experiences I garnered over the years as spokesperson of three administrations, both military and civilian in Ogun, to bear in this new title. Like I have done in public service, I will use this Osorun title to contribute to the growth and development of the Isaga-Orile Kingdom’, Odunaro submitted.

The nation’s welding ecosystem may be on a rebound with the strategic alliance between key stakeholders like the Petroleum Training Institute, Nigerian Institute of Welding (NIW) and The Welding Federation (TWF).

Speaking at the maiden edition of the National Welding Road Show delivered online, Engr Bijimi Gaiya, Chairman, NIW CTC, shared experiences and challenges in his welding career from 1978 till date.

He highlighted salient points on how to build and sustain momentum in welding as a career. He expressed delight on the passion shown by students to learn more, and explained that the National Welding Road show is a first under NIW’s Rebuild, Reclaim, and Rebrand programme.

The National Welding Road show organised by the Nigerian Institute of Welding in collaboration with The Welding Federation of Africa engaged PTI welding community in an experience sharing session of some of the unique complements of TWF Welder training qualification syllabus which puts an African content welder step ahead in staying relevant and competitive.

The road show featured a no hold bar questions session with leading professionals in Nigeria’s welding industry on viable career paths, technical challenges in welding manipulations, and access to welder qualification and certifications.

Also Engr Grace Erhimona, former Director of PTI and Vice Chairman of NIW CTC, expressed her satisfaction with PTI in setting the pace again for other institutions to follow.

She attributed PTI leading status as being the offshoot of several capacity upgrade support from various intervention agencies such Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), and a host of others.

She called the attention of PTDF, NDDC and NCDMB on the gaps which organising this road show had revealed in PTI facility adequacy in such special process techniques as gouging, buttering, hard facing and a host of others.

Responding to questions from our correspondence, Ayo Adeniyi, Executive Director of TWF, expressed satisfaction on the turnout and outcome of the first stop of the roadshow.

He thanked the management of PTI under the leadership of Engr. Dr. Samuel Onoji, Chief Executive Officer for consistently demonstrating vision and foresightedness in issues of national importance.

He also thanked Dr Jimba Bankole, former Director of PTI, Engr Grace Erhimona former Director of PTI, Engr Jerome Peter, Engr David Adidi of Delta State Polytechnic, Eddy Omonigho of the department of welding, Okpeh Onovughe, Otus Utuaghono and, Kingsley Oboh for sacrifices made to ensure the road show’s success.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his happiness with the first of its kind E1 Lagos GP- electric powerboat racing championship, kicking off in the metropolitan today.

He said: ‘I am proud and happy that this city keeps making history. It was the host of the first Festival of Black Arts and Culture (FESTAC 77), which brought the world to Nigeria. A few weeks ago, Lagos hosted the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX), the annual global technology event and the world’s largest startup show. It was a huge success. The Lagos International Marathon, which draws elite athletes worldwide, has been running since 2016. Now, Lagos is making history as the host of the E1 Lagos GP. It is the first city in Africa to host the powerboat racing championship, joining the ranks of Monaco, London, Jeddah, and Venice.’

Tinubu further said: ‘I am excited because, despite being Nigeria’s President – a job that I am truly honoured and privileged to have – I remain a proud Lagosian. The state is, once again, affirming its place as a bold, forward-looking city and a gateway to innovation, technology, and global sporting excellence. Lagos, the cultural capital of Nigeria, the heartbeat of our economy, and a symbol of our resilience, is the perfect host. Its vibrant waterways and dynamic people embody the spirit of competition, creativity, and hospitality. What Is postpartum depression?

Postpartum depression is more than mood swings or the so-called ‘baby blues.’ It’s a serious condition that can affect how your wife feels, thinks, and bonds with the baby. It usually shows up within the first few weeks after delivery, but sometimes it comes months later.

Persistent sadness or hopelessness

Encourage Rest; Gently insist she takes breaks, naps, or even short walks. Rest is fuel.

Normalise seeking help: Therapy or professional care isn’t a weakness. Encourage her to talk to a doctor if symptoms persist

Take Care of Yourself Too

Supporting her is easier if you’re also physically and mentally okay. Don’t neglect your own health.

In many Nigerian homes, conversations about mental health are still whispered. Cultural expectations often tell women to ‘endure’ or ‘pray it away.’ While faith and prayer are important, they don’t replace emotional care. As her husband, you can break that silence and lead with compassion.

Coach Gernot Rohr has said Benin No 1 target is to win in Rwanda to stay top of their 2026 World Cup qualifying group, which includes the Super Eagles.

Benin, under former Super Eagles coach Rohr, are now top of Group C of the World Cup qualifiers after South Africa were docked three points and three goals for fielding an ineligible player.

‘Our priority is to win our match in Rwanda,’ Rohr declared.

We’re doing everything we can to achieve that. Regardless of the results of other matches, we can keep our fate in our own hands. And that’s a real advantage.’

He further said he expects his team to play ‘like true cheetahs’ to achieve this target.

Saying that the opposition is living in awe of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s firm foothold on the nation’s political terrain is an understatement. More correctly, the President’s popularity is a nightmare for the likes of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai and other opposition politicians whose mission is to unseat him in the 2027 elections.

But the harder they try, the more it is looking like unseating Tinubu in 2027 is a mission impossible. If nothing else, the obvious disarray in the opposition camp point to the mountain they would have to climb in 2027 for their dreams to materialise. Even the coalition of anti-Tinubu forces championed by Atiku and El-Rufai is yet to find its feet while the elections approach at astonishing speed.

For the opposition elements, it is a case of the falcon not hearing the falconer as Tinubu’s influence continues to loom large in their camp. It is getting increasingly difficult, as the elections approach, to know which opposition member is truly against Tinubu as many of them are clandestinely working to ensure that he secures a second term.

It could not have been otherwise, considering how easier life has become governors under Tinubu’s leadership. Now availed with about three times the amount of money that comes to them from the federal purse on a daily basis, many of them believe of them believe they owe him a world of gratitude, and the best way they can reciprocate his gesture and sustain their new financial status is to support the President for a second term. That is particularly the case with first-term governors who are hoping for another four years after the current dispensation.

A pointer to the foregoing was the recent gale of defections by opposition governors and members of the National Assembly to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as well as a melodrama that occurred at a recent zoning consultative meeting in Lagos by southern stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opposed to Tinubu’s reelection in 2027.

It turned out, however, that a few hours later, some PDP governors who had attended the said meeting where they also resolved to expel FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Benue State governor Daniel Ortom and others accused of anti-party activities, were on board an aircraft that took them to Brazil.

While their mission to the South American country remains a matter of conjecture, it nonetheless provoked curiousity in that it coincided with President Tinubu’s official visit.
