Coupon Security and Online Safety: How to Shop Smart Without the Risk

In today’s digital shopping world, coupons and promo codes are an incredible way to save money. However, with the rise of online scams, phishing attempts, and fake discount codes, shoppers need to be more vigilant than ever. A single misplaced click on a malicious link can lead to compromised personal information or wasted money. This is where trusted platforms like HotDeals come in, helping consumers enjoy verified savings without the risks.

Not all coupon codes are created equal. Many websites and social media posts claim to offer discounts but are either outdated or intentionally deceptive. Clicking on these links can result in:

Phishing Scams: Sites that mimic legitimate stores to steal login credentials or financial information.

Malware Downloads: Hidden viruses or spyware can be embedded in downloadable coupons.

Invalid Codes: Waste of time and frustration when a code doesn’t apply at checkout.

Even savvy shoppers can fall prey if they are not careful, especially during high-traffic shopping events or when hunting for hard-to-find deals.

Using a reputable platform like HotDeals.com ensures that the codes you access are verified, active, and safe. Unlike random coupon aggregators or social media posts, HotDeals works directly with brands to confirm which promotions are legitimate. This saves time, reduces stress, and guarantees that your discounts actually work.

Regularly Updated Codes: HotDeals constantly refreshes its listings, removing expired or invalid offers.

Brand Authorization: Many codes are officially sanctioned by merchants, ensuring authenticity.

Centralized Platform: Instead of scouring multiple sites, shoppers can rely on one trustworthy source.

Even when using verified platforms, it’s important to adopt safe online shopping practices:

Check the URL: Always verify that the website address is correct. Trusted platforms like HotDeals.com clearly indicate their official domain.

Avoid Unknown Links: Never click on codes shared in random emails, forums, or social media posts unless the source is verified.

Use Secure Payment Methods: Credit cards or digital wallets provide extra protection in case of issues.

Keep Software Updated: Ensure your browser and antivirus software are current to protect against malware.

Read Terms Carefully: Some coupon codes have conditions or restrictions; understanding them avoids disappointment at checkout.

When shoppers combine careful online behavior with a trusted source of verified coupons, the advantages are twofold: financial and security-related. By relying on HotDeals, consumers can confidently apply discounts to groceries, clothing, electronics, and more, knowing that their personal information remains protected.

Additionally, the platform provides categorized listings and user-friendly navigation, making it easy to find relevant deals quickly. Whether you are a first-time user or a seasoned online shopper, this approach transforms coupon hunting from a risky gamble into a safe, efficient, and rewarding experience.

Coupons are powerful tools for saving money, but in the digital age, safety must come first. Fake codes and phishing scams are more prevalent than ever, and unchecked clicks can have serious consequences. HotDeals.com bridges this gap, offering verified, brand-approved promotions while keeping consumers secure.

By prioritizing safety, checking sources, and using trusted platforms, shoppers can enjoy the best of both worlds: meaningful discounts and peace of mind. In the end, smart shopping isn’t just about finding the lowest price-it’s about protecting yourself while getting the deal you deserve.

Air Chief summons commanders, urges harder strikes against terrorists

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has summoned Air Component Commanders from all operational theatres, charging them to intensify precision air operations that deliver ‘smarter, harder, and more decisive firepower’ against terrorists and other non-state actors.

Addressing the commanders, during a high-level strategic meeting at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Headquarters, Abuja, Air Marshal Aneke emphasised that the days ahead demand agility, precision, and intelligence-driven warfare against criminals threatening the peace and stability of the country.

‘We must fly smarter and strike harder not only to neutralize threats but to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians,’ he said.

‘Every mission must reflect professionalism, purpose, and patriotism.’

According to the NAF boss, the evolving nature of threats across theatres requires synchronization of air, land, and maritime operations to achieve joint mission success.

‘Our operations must be intelligence-led, coordinated, and focused. We will continue to work closely with the sister services and other security agencies to ensure a united front in the fight against terrorism and criminality,’ he added.

Air Marshal Aneke charged the commanders to translate strategy into decisive action, sustain operational tempo, and ensure every sortie achieves tangible impact on the ground.

‘The safety and confidence of our citizens are our mission success indicators. Nigeria is counting on us, and we will not fail,’ he declared.

While affirming that the NAF will prioritize innovation, technology, and training to enhance mission success, Air Marshal Aneke, reassured the commanders and all NAF’s personnel of his commitment to their welfare, capacity development, and operational effectiveness.

He said: ‘Every airman and airwoman has a role to play in achieving our collective vision. I will ensure you are equipped, trained, and motivated to deliver results.’

The NAF boss emphasized that the NAF remains dedicated to the government’s vision of peace and security, while upholding international standards of conduct and accountability.

‘We will apply decisive force against those who threaten our nation, with discipline, humanity, and professionalism.

‘The Nigerian people, government, and international partners expect nothing less from us,’ he said.

The Nation reports that the meeting provided a platform to harmonize strategies, strengthen inter-service cooperation, and ensure that the Nigerian Air Force remains a decisive instrument of national security and a symbol of hope for citizens.

Foden and Haaland inspire Man City success over Dortmund

Phil Foden scored twice and Erling Haaland netted against his former club as Manchester City brushed aside Borussia Dortmund to strengthen their position in the league phase of the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola’s men are unbeaten in their opening four matches and a third win moved them up to fourth in the table, with the top eight sides qualifying automatically for the last 16.

Nico Kovac’s Dortmund side had started on the front foot but faded away as the hosts scored twice in seven first-half minutes to wrestle control of the contest.

Foden was impressive throughout and he stung the palms of Gregor Kobel with a powerful strike from outside the box, before a curling free-kick straight into the hands of the visiting goalkeeper.

It was third time lucky for the Englishman in the 22nd minute, picking the ball up outside the box and, as the Dortmund defenders stood off, Foden rolled a delightful finish low into the bottom corner.

It was his first Champions League goal in exactly a year after netting in a 4-1 defeat by Sporting in last season’s competition.

City then attacked at will and seemed intent on steamrollering the opposition as Kobel tipped over a close-range effort from Nico O’Reilly, before the prolific Haaland thumped home a cutback from Jeremy Doku in the 29th minute.

It was the Norwegian’s fifth successive Champions League strike – becoming the first player to do so for three different teams – RB Salzburg, Dortmund and now City.

Kobel was kept busy, batting away a thunderous drive from Tijjani Reijnders.

But City pushed on after the restart and Foden doubled his tally in the 57th minute by curling home a delightful second.

Dortmund, who are 12th in the table, staged a late rally and Waldemar Anton poked home a consolation from a Julian Ryerson cross.

But substitute Rayan Cherki restored City’s three-goal advantage in added time with a lovely run and neat finish.

Umaru Musa Yar’adua University workers declare 2-week warning strike

The joint congresses of the four in-house unions of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina have embarked on a two-week warning strike, from Nov. 3.

This is contained in a statement on Wednesday in Katsina, signed by Dr Murtala Abdullahi, the Chairman, Academic Staff Union (ASUU), UMYU chapter, on behalf of the four in-house unions.

The other unions are the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), and the Non-Academic Staff Union Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU).

Abdullahi recalled that the unions had formally submitted the critical issues that led to the trade disputes to the University Governing Council and the state government, but said that they were yet to be resolved.

‘We also made it clear that the unions had reached an understanding with the government, through its representatives, on all the issues, with commitments on the part of the authorities to address the concerns of our members.

‘These issues, it should be recalled, border on condition of service and the future of our teeming members, as well as the security of our examinations/records and autonomy of the university.

‘However, it is regrettable to inform you that none of these agreements and understanding reached have been fulfilled by the state government,’ he said.

The ASUU chairman pointed out that in spite of their patience, since 2020, which led to giving the government an additional three weeks to honour their promises, there had been no meaningful response or action.

‘This continued disregard on the part of the state government clearly demonstrates a lack of seriousness and responsibility in addressing the plight of our members.

‘In light of this and after due consultations and extensive deliberations, the congresses of the four unions have resolved to embark on a two-week warning strike.

‘This is in order to further drive home our legitimate demands and compel the state government to wake up to its duties by demonstrating genuine commitment to resolving the issues at hand.

‘We wish to make it clear that this action is not taken out of pleasure or haste, but as a last resort after all the avenues of dialogue and understanding have been exhausted.

‘We sincerely appeal to our students, parents, the Katsina community and the nation at large for understanding and support. Our struggle is in the collective interest of quality education and the future of our children,’ Abdullahi said.

He said that at the end of the two weeks, if there were still no tangible progress from the government, the unions would reconvene to decide on the next course of action.

Acting National Chairman of the faction, Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammed, said at a briefing that proceeding with the convention will be a violation of the judgement of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Mohammed said even though they are aware of an exparte order by an Ibadan High Court, it does invalidate the judgement since an exparte order cannot over ride a valid judgement.

Nevertheless, we have dimmed it necessary and responsible to formally communicate our position to the commission. Kaduna offered bandits livelihood, not cash – Commissioner

Kaduna Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, has clarified that the State Government offered bandits access to education, healthcare and livelihood opportunities rather than cash payment as part of efforts to end years of killings and kidnappings across the State.

Maiyaki made this known at a one-day workshop on Peace Journalism organised by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna State in collaboration with the Global Peace Foundation Nigeria and the Ministry of Information, Kaduna State.

He said the initiative, tagged Kaduna Peace Model, was a deliberate shift from confrontation to conversation, focusing on restoring humanity through dialogue and development instead of financial appeasement. ‘You cannot bomb peace into existence; you must build it with trust,’ he declared.

According to the Commissioner, the turning point came when leaders of the armed groups asked the government to reopen markets, schools, and healthcare centres that had been closed due to insecurity. ‘We agreed because these are basic human needs, not ransom payments,’ he explained. ‘We didn’t give them a dime. What we gave was life back to communities long abandoned.’

Maiyaki noted between 2015 and 2023, Kaduna recorded 1,160 security incidents resulting in 4,876 deaths, with thousands kidnapped or displaced. By 2021 alone, 1,192 people were killed and 3,348 abducted, forcing the closure of 142 schools and 192 health facilities.

He said Kaduna, once declared a ‘red zone’ by the international community, was gradually reclaiming its image through a non-kinetic approach anchored on intelligence sharing, dialogue, and socio-economic inclusion – in partnership with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

Through the joint ONSA-Kaduna Peace Committee, he said, more than 500 captives were safely released via negotiations without any payment of ransom or resort to force. ‘We are seeing trust where there was fear, and cooperation where there was hostility,’ he said.

Maiyaki cited examples of former bandit leaders such as Jan Bros and Yellow One Million, who act as community peace mediators, helping to maintain stability in previously volatile areas. ‘The peace model works because it is owned by the people. Communities co-create peace instead of having it dictated by government,’ he stressed.

He added that over 500,000 hectares of farmland had been recovered with agricultural and commercial activities revived in Giwa, Birnin Gwari, and Kauru Local Government Areas. ‘Markets have reopened, and 20 to 30 cattle trucks now move weekly on roads once feared by travellers,’ he said.

Maiyaki maintained that every reopened school, clinic, or market represented a ‘victory over fear,’ proving that inclusion and dialogue could achieve what brute force could not. ‘Our people wanted dignity, not pity,’ he said. ‘Once they saw sincerity, they embraced peace.’

He clarified that the process was not a one-off truce but an ongoing engagement involving district heads, clerics, and local leaders to prevent relapse into violence. ‘We are not declaring victory,’ he quoted Governor Uba Sani as saying. ‘We are declaring commitment.’

Maiyaki concluded that the Kaduna Peace Model had become a living, evolving process rooted in trust and shared ownership. ‘Peace is cheaper, deeper, and more enduring when people have a stake in it,’ he said. ‘The Kaduna experience proves that security without humanity is insecurity in disguise.’

Troops rescue military officer, nine others in Benue

Troops of Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued a military personnel and nine others from kidnappers in Benue State.

This is contained in a statement by Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer, Head Quarters OPWS, in Makurdi on Wednesday.

According to him, on Nov. 3, troops deployed at Kyado, Ukum LG while on patrol along Zaki-Biam-Wukari Road received an intelligence report about kidnapping activities at a checkpoint.

Zubairu said that the kidnappers disguised themselves in police uniforms to deceive unsuspecting road users.

‘Upon receiving the information, the troops mobilised swiftly to the scene. On sighting the approaching soldiers, the kidnappers fled in disarray into nearby bushes.

‘The troops immediately pursued the fleeing suspects, following their tracks deep into the forest. During the search operations, 10 kidnapped victims were successfully rescued.

Nigeria’s non-interest capital market hits N1.6trn – SEC

The Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Dr Emomotimi Agama, said Nigeria’s non-interest capital market has reached a valuation of over N1.6 trillion, reflecting its increasing importance in promoting financial inclusion and driving infrastructure development.

A statement from the SEC on Wednesday said Agama spoke at the 7th African International Conference on Islamic Finance (AICIF) 2025 held in Lagos. He noted the market’s rapid expansion was a testament to investor confidence and the impact of regulatory reforms under the Investments and Securities Act (ISA) 2025.

‘The remarkable growth of the non-interest segment in Nigeria – a market now valued at over N1.6 trillion – is clear evidence that when there is an enabling regulatory environment, the market responds with vigour,’ he said.

According to the SEC boss, the Federal Government’s sovereign Sukuk programme has so far raised over N1.4 trillion through seven issuances since 2017.

The funds, he noted, have been used to finance the construction and rehabilitation of 124 critical road projects covering more than 5,820 kilometres across the country.

Agama added that the recent approval of a $500 million international Sukuk would usher in the next phase of Nigeria’s strategy to attract ethical financing for infrastructure expansion and broader economic growth.

He also observed that the growing adoption of Islamic finance across Africa demonstrates the continent’s readiness to embrace non-interest instruments as a sustainable funding alternative. ‘From Egypt to Kenya, Tanzania, Senegal, and Ghana, we are seeing governments strengthen legal and policy frameworks to attract Shariah-compliant investments,’ he noted.

The SEC Director-General commended Metropolitan Skills, the conference organizers, for their contribution to deepening Islamic finance knowledge in Africa. He disclosed that the outcomes of the 2025 AICIF would feed into the Second Nigerian Capital Market Masterplan (2026-2035), which will take effect after the current plan concludes this year.

Agama urged stakeholders to continue leveraging Islamic finance to promote ethical investment, financial inclusion, and infrastructure renewal. ‘Prosperity without inclusion is not sustainable,’ he said.

Zambia to adopt NOA’s national values charter

The Zambian government has indicated interest in understudying the operation of the National Values charter, the cornerstone of the proposed Nigerian Identity Project which was earlier approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

This was the outcome of the second meeting between NOA officials led by the Director General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu and the Zambian High Commission officials in Nigeria led by Jenipher Mutembo, Deputy High Commissioner at the NOA headquarters in Abuja.

Addressing the team from the Zambian High Commission, the Director General of the NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, gave an overview of the operational structure of the agency saying, ‘It is my pleasure to welcome you to the premises of the National Orientation Agency. The Agency is one of the largest in Nigeria, with 818 offices across all 774 local government areas, 36 states, and the Federal Capital Territory. We are deeply rooted at the grassroots level and remain a vital communication channel between the government and the people.’

Issa-Onilu explained that the Agency communicates government policies, programmes, and projects to citizens and collates grassroots feedback to inform decision-making, adding that the feedback is regularly submitted to the relevant government institutions and the parliament.

The DG, who said the NOA promotes patriotism, civic responsibility, and unity among Nigerians, also shared his experience at a recent programme in the United Kingdom, where he met the Gambian High Commissioner in London, whose took interest in the work of the NOA, indicating potentials for broader African collaboration. He expressed hope that Zambia might similarly engage in such partnerships.

Speaking further, he also commented on the narrow perception of leadership in Africa, typically limited to political figures, instead of encompassing civil, traditional, and moral leaders as influencers of national values.

In her remarks, the Zambian Deputy High Commisioner, Mrs Jenipher Mutembo, expressed sincere gratitude for the hospitality and openness extended by the Director General and his team, recognising the institutional strength and nationwide structure of the NOA.

Mrs Mutembo said, ‘I must commend your presence in all local government areas. This grassroots model is powerful, and we see its potential as a framework other African countries, Zambia included, can learn from.’

She applauded the Agency’s commitment in providing an opportunity for Zambia to observe, learn, and possibly adopt aspects of NOA’s operational methodology for national reorientation and civic education, stressing the shared African values, youth influence, and the role of media, particularly touching on cultural perceptions exported through Nigeria’s creative industry.

‘Our young people are watching these films. They are learning, forming ideas, and creating perceptions, sometimes misinformed, about success, morality, and identity. What we portray shapes national values and international image. As leaders, we have a duty to ensure that the content reaching the public inspires unity, innovation, dignity, and pride in African heritage.

‘Nigeria is the cultural giant of Africa, and Nollywood is one of your most powerful exports. However, as a sister country, I must mention, with respect, that there is growing concern in Zambia, particularly among our youth, about the dominant themes of rituals, occultism, and superstitions in many Nollywood productions,’ she stated.

While raising the importance of inter-agency collaboration and South-South knowledge exchange, she proposed a more formal mechanism for technical cooperation between Zambia and Nigeria on civic education and grassroots mobilisation, cultural diplomacy and media content exchange.

She further reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expressed appreciation for NOA’s strategic leadership, adding that Zambia is actively seeking models that foster behavioural change and civic responsibility to support sustainable development.

Mrs Mutembo concluded by acknowledging that Nigeria’s investment in structured national orientation can serve as a reference for Zambia’s own national development strategy, particularly in promoting public participation in governance and responsible citizenship.
