Bambam, Teddy A raise awareness on cervical cancer

Actress Bamike Adenibuyan popularly known as Bambam, and husband Teddy A, have joined the fight against cervical cancer in a video posted on Instagram.

The couple emphasised the importance of awareness, early screening, and protection against Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which can lead to life-threatening diseases.

As parents of two beautiful girls, Bambam and Teddy A expressed their desire for a future where their daughters can grow up healthy, empowered, and free from preventable illnesses.

They encouraged open conversations and action to protect each other, stressing that awareness saves lives.

Captioning the video, Bambam wrote: ‘Every two minutes, a woman somewhere loses her life to cervical cancer. Here at home in Nigeria, too many of those stories are our mothers, sisters, aunties, friends.

‘HPV is common. It often has no signs. And once some types of HPV stay in the body, it can lead to life-threatening disease.

But awareness, early screening and protection can save lives.

‘As parents raising two beautiful girls, this is personal. We want a future where our daughters can grow up healthy, empowered, and free from preventable illness.

‘This conversation isn’t just for hospitals or campaigns. It starts in our homes, with love, with courage, with information. Let’s talk and take action. Let’s protect each other. Awareness saves lives’.

Anambra Gov poll: We must resist vote buying, says INEC chairman

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan on Tuesday warmed any attempt to induce voters before or during the November 8 governorship election in Anambra election must be resisted and curtailed.

Speaking at the first consultative meeting with members of the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), he said political actors must join hands to combat the menace of vote buying as a way of restoring the integrity of the electoral process.

Amupitan said the Commission was working with the relevant law enforcement agencies, especially the anti-graft agencies, to stop vote buyers from contaminating the electoral process, saying ‘security agents cannot afford to create an environment that allows vote buyers to operate during the Anambra election.

‘Together, let us combat vote buying, uphold the values of democracy and work relentlessly for the credibility of our elections. The path ahead may be challenging, but if we stand united, there is nothing we cannot achieve’.

The INEC boss said following a week-long, comprehensive readiness assessment conducted across Anambra State, the Commission is confident in affirming its full preparedness for the polls.

According to him, the commission recently conducted mock accreditation exercise in 12 selected polling units in 6 Local Government Areas of Anambra State, using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) to test run its facilities and readiness for the election.

He said: ‘Although we encountered some network challenges, efforts are being made to ensure a seamless election on 8th November, 2025, and we are ready for large-scale deployment on Election Day’.

He disclosed that the commission plan to deploy 24,000 personnel, adding that elections will be held in 5,718 of the 5,720 polling units in the State, adding that voting will not take place in the remaining two polling units due to the absence of registered voters while results will be collated at 326 ward centres, 21 Local Government Area centres, and finally at the State Collation Centre in Awka.

National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, said the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) remains fully committed to fulfilling President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive on the strategic mobilisation of security forces during the electoral period, adding that this commitment is essential to ensuring the highest level of safety and security.

Represented by the Director of Internal Security, Hassan Yahaya Abdullahi, the NSA said robust security measures have been put in place, including enhanced surveillance, the deployment of sufficient security personnel, and improved intelligence gathering to prevent any attempt by disruptive elements or desperate politicians to undermine the electoral process.

He said the office of the NSA was proactively engaging with political party leaders and local stakeholders to send a clear message that violence will not be tolerated in our elections, adding that all participating political parties and their candidates must advocate for peace and encourage their supporters to conduct themselves in a manner that honours the integrity of our electoral system.

The NSA said any form of violence during the elections will be met with a strong, uncompromising response, saying ‘the Nigeria Police Force, as the lead agency for election security, along with other security agencies, stands prepared and resolute to maintain a secure environment during the Anambra State governorship elections.’

Drug parties illegal, NDLEA warns club owners, fun seekers

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has warned night club operators and fun seekers that organising, hosting and attending drug parties is illegal under Nigerian law.

The agency’s warning comes on the heels of a raid carried out by its operatives at a drug party, on Saturday night into the early hours of Sunday at Proxy Night Club located at 7 Akin Adesola street, Victoria Island Lagos.

Over 100 attendees were arrested along with the owner of the facility, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu alias Pretty Mike and his manager Joachin Millary.

Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, Femi Babafemi, made this known in a statement on Tuesday.

The agency said: ‘Any gathering organised for the purpose of consuming, distributing, or abusing illicit substances is an act of criminality. These ‘drug parties’ contravene the explicit provisions of the NDLEA Act and will be treated as serious narcotic offences. In the case of the drug party at Proxy night club, organisers went above board and had the audacity to produce and circulate flyers inviting fun seekers to come together to commit crime, an act that not only constitutes an incitement to commit crime but equally an affront to the law enforcement capabilities of the country if condoned.

‘Nigeria is currently grappling with a very high prevalence rate of drug abuse, particularly among our youths. These illicit drug parties do not only fuel the drug scourge but equally serve as hubs for new recruitment into drug addiction and actively undermine our current national efforts to safeguard public health and security.

‘In the recent case, the NDLEA was meticulous and professional throughout the processes leading to the raid and during the operation. Following intelligence on the party, our undercover agents conducted surveillance on the facility, made pre-purchases of illicit drugs from within the club and for four hours between 11pm on Saturday and 3am on Sunday during the party, our operatives observed and recorded drug transactions and abuse going on before we eventually disrupted the brazen public display of illegality and made arrests.

‘All attendees initially arrested were later profiled, addressed, counselled and released within hours in custody, in line with best global practices while the two principal suspects: Pretty Mike and his manager, Joachin Millary remain in custody following the seizure of 384.882 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a strong strain of cannabis and other substances from the club’s store.

‘While the Agency will intensify surveillance and apply the full force of the law against perpetrators, owners of properties, hotels, and event centres found to be knowingly hosting such illegal activities risk the confiscation and forfeiture of their assets to the Federal Government. Those held in custody in the ongoing case will face prosecution while we will file for forfeiture of the property, Proxy Night Club, in which the drugs were found.’

It urged all patriotic Nigerians, parents, religious and community leaders, as well as concerned citizens to be vigilant, report such activities, and partner with the NDLEA in combating this threat to national well-being.

Alleged N400m fraud: Court plans Andy Uba’s arraignment for November 6

A Federal High Court in Abuja has rescheduled the planned arraignment of Senator Andy Uba and Benjamin Etu in the alleged N400 million fraud case for November 6.

Uba and Etu were to be arraigned on Tuesday but for the absence of the judge, Justice Mohammed Umar, who was said to be sitting at another division of the court outside Abuja.

With the agreement of lawyers in the case, officials of the court rescheduled the arrangement for November 6.

The judge, on September 24, threatened to issue a bench warrant for the arrest of Uba, the former Senator representing Anambra South, should he fail to appear in court on October 28.

The threat to issue bench warrant was informed by an application by the prosecuting lawyer, Aminu Abdullahi, that the court should compel UBA to attend court.

Uba’s lawyer, C.F. Odiniru pleaded with the judge to reject the prosecution’a request for a bench warrant.

Odiniru attributed Uba’s continued absence to ill health.

In count one of the two-count charge, Uba, Etu and Hajiya Fatima now at large, are alleged to have, sometimes in 2022 conspired amongst themselves to commit the offence.

Uba and others were accused of obtaining by false pretence, by making a presentation to Mr George Uboh that they had perfected ways for the appointment of the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to any interested persons who could afford N400 million.

‘A presentation which you know is not true and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 8 and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related offences Act, 2006.’

The offence, the prosecution said, is contrary to Section 1 (2) and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related offences Act, 2006,’ the count read in part.

Uboh, in a letter dated April 5, 2023, and addressed to the I-G, said the petition was based on documentary and voice recording.

According to Uboh, the evidence is overwhelming and irrefutable.

No fewer than six witnesses had been listed to testify against the ex-lawmaker and Etu.

Odumodublvck weighs in on politics, race

Rapper Odumodublvck has spoken on the country’s political system and the struggles of Black people in America.

In an interview with BET, Odumodublvck criticised the tendency of Nigerians to blame the President for every national problem, ignoring the roles of local government and state officials.

‘You have a local government, you have your councillor, you have your senator, the guys that are directly in charge of you, but when anything happens, they say ‘ah, Tinubu’. You’re a small fish to the president. The guy that is supposed to take care of you is the one opposite you. But that’s what you get when you use that kind of policy to govern a people – when everybody’s sovereignty is in the hands of one man,’ he said.

On politics, Odumodublvck stated that concentrating power in one person creates a system vulnerable to manipulation and corruption.

‘If he’s a good man, they can take away your liberty by threatening him. What if he’s a man who waited 20 years for a child, becomes a governor, and they tell him, ‘If you don’t do this corruption, we’ll harm your daughter’? Even if he wants to help the people, he doesn’t have a choice,’ he said.

He emphasised that democracy is weakened when sovereignty is in the hands of one man, and that this system can lead to problems for citizens.

‘If the sovereignty is in the hand of one man, there’s a problem. I’ve said what I need to say,’ he added.

On the struggles of Black people in America, the rapper urged the community to move beyond the victim mentality and take advantage of new opportunities.

He acknowledged the suffering of Black people in America but pointed out that it’s time to forgive and focus on progress.

Odumodublvck also compared the struggles of Black people in America to those in Africa, stating that the latter have faced more severe hardships, including suffering at the hands of their own people.

‘We cannot deny that America is now a better place for Black people. Black people have suffered in America, yes, but it’s time to step away from the victim mentality. We now have Black-owned businesses, a former Black president, people doing well in sports – now is the time to fly’, he added.
