Oyo APC moves to unite members ahead of 2027 elections, warns against factional groups

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has unveiled new strategies to strengthen party unity and improve its chances of winning the 2027 governorship and other elections in the state.

In a communiqué issued at the end of its Leadership Summit held in Ibadan, the party expressed concern over the growing activities of some aspirants who have been floating and nurturing separate groups within the APC, warning that such actions are creating unnecessary divisions rather than fostering unity.

The party emphasised that collective interest must take precedence over personal ambition, urging aspirants to immediately discontinue the formation of parallel groups and instead channel their energy toward promoting the APC’s goals.

‘We note that the imposition of candidates for elective and party positions is unhealthy for peace, unity, and cohesion within the party. We therefore advocate for an all-inclusive, free, fair, and transparent process of electing party candidates and officials without external influence,’ the communiqué stated.

The APC leadership also raised concerns over the misuse of social media platforms by some members, noting that such behavior has fueled internal conflicts. The party resolved to regulate how social media is used for sharing information about party activities to maintain discipline and harmony among members.

‘We note that the absence of a rallying point is negatively affecting coordination within the Party. We hereby resolve that in the absence of a sitting Governor who is a member of our Party, a collegiate leadership comprising two nominees from the three senatorial zones must be immediately put in place.

‘We note that some Aspirants have been campaigning and in the process, they are making inflammatory comments capable of further deepening the divisions within the Party.

‘We therefore resolved that campaign activities are premature at the moment, most especially, taking cognizance of the INEC Guidelines. We therefore caution Aspirants against making inflammatory statements and engaging in campaign activities against INEC Guidelines.

‘We note that Oyo state is short-changed in respect of appointments from Abuja despite our contributions to the successes of the Party in 2023. We therefore resolved that the Party needs to make a strong representation in Abuja to address this unfair treatment.’

House panel summons minister over utilisation of funds by foreign missions

The House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs has invited the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Heads of Missions for questioning over the utilisation of appropriated funds by the foreign missions in 2025.

The Committee, in a letter dated July 24, 2025 and signed by its Chairman, Oluwole Oke, said its powers were based on Sections 88 and 89 of the 1999 Constitution (As amended) to demand detailed records of utilisations of the funds by the various agencies.

The letter inviting Tuggar and Heads of Missions read in part, ‘The Missions are required to furnish the following documents: approved budget of the missions from 2024-2025; budget performance of the missions for the above years; record of special interventions released to the missions and their applications between 2018-2025 and staff nominal roll for both home and local staff.

‘The Honourable Minister is kindly requested to bring the content of this letter to all Heads of Missions.’

Another letter, dated July 3, 2025, signed by the Director of Funds on behalf of the Accountant General of the Federation, revealed that the President Bola Tinubu-led administration released a total of $54 million to cater to the needs of the nation’s 103 Embassies and High Commissions.

While overhead cost got an allocation of $46.14m, personal cost accounted for $9.58m, with overhead allocated $282,829.

Speaking with some journalists in Abuja, Hon Oke commended President Tinubu for the intervention, even as he charged Mr Tuggar and Heads of the various missions to provide the Committee with detailed records of the disbursement of the funds.

‘We commend the President for intervening, and we are thankful for his commitment to revive the missions. His intervention in 2025 will go a long way in projecting a great image for our country.

‘We urge the missions to come forth and inform Nigerians through their representatives in parliament how the intervention funds have been utilised. This will ensure transparency and accountability, which are two basic requirements for good governance,’ Oke said.

A breakdown of the disbursement showed that the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs was allocated $5.89m, while the Embassy of Nigeria in Moscow got $1.96m. The nation’s Embassy in Rome, Italy, got $2.82m, while Vienna and Athens got $1.09m and $1.04m respectively.

Others include Embassy of Nigeria in Tel Aviv-$1.8m; Addis Ababa $1.92m; Consulate General of Nigeria, Jeddah $1.48m; Consulate General of Nigeria, Dubai $1.26m and Embassy of Nigeria, Madrid, Spain $1.23m; Embassies of Nigeria in Tehran/Abu Dhabi $1.18m, among others.

Oke said the Committee is not on a witch-hunt mission but ‘Is merely responding to the need to make governance count for Nigeria and Nigerians.’

The nation’s foreign missions have, in the past few years, been poorly funded, leading to poor consular services to Nigerians abroad. This is in addition to allegations of corruption by officials of the missions abroad.

Earlier in 2025, the Oke-led Committee commenced an investigation into allegations of a contract scandal involving the alleged mismanagement of $2m for the renovation of Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.

Parents raise alarm over alleged extortion levies in Abia federal secondary school

Parents and guardians of students at the National Institute of Nigerian Languages Demonstration Secondary School (NDSS) and Nursery/Primary School (NNPS), Aba, Abia State, have called for urgent intervention from the Minister of Education and the Abia State Commissioner for Education over alleged extortion by the school management.

The two institutions, which serve as staff schools of the National Institute of Nigerian Languages (NINLAN) and are located along the Obingwa axis of New Umuahia Road, have a combined population of about 2,000 students drawn from staff families and the general public.

Speaking at a press conference in Aba, parents under the aegis of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) accused the NINLAN management of introducing ‘extortionist fees’ and arbitrarily increasing levies by more than 100 percent.

PTA Chairman, Dr. Chidi Emenike, said parents were shocked by the announcement of a massive hike in tuition and boarding fees for the 2025/2026 academic session by the Executive Director of NINLAN, Professor Ogbonna Onuoha. He described the new rates as unrealistic and unsustainable.

According to him, primary school fees were raised from ?20,000 to ?44,500 per term, while secondary school fees jumped from ?35,000 to ?65,000. Boarding fees also increased from ?100,000 to ?140,000, despite falling food prices nationwide.

He added that other levies-such as annual caution fees of ?20,000 for secondary students and ?10,000 for primary pupils, medical fees of ?10,000 and ?5,000 per term for secondary and primary pupils respectively, as well as ?5,000 each for ICT and examination fees-were unjustified.

‘These hikes are unbearable and defeat the very essence of the demonstration schools, which were established to provide affordable education for the children of NINLAN staff and the host community,’ Emenike said.

Another PTA member, Barrister Chukwuemeka Nwachukwu, argued that the schools cannot be run like private institutions where decisions are imposed without consultation. He said the PTA was not opposed to the official ?65,000 tuition approved by the federal government but rejected the ‘obnoxious and exploitative levies’ introduced by the management.

Nwachukwu appealed to the Federal Ministry of Education, the Abia State Government, the National Assembly, and other relevant authorities to intervene and reverse the increments, warning that many parents might be forced to withdraw their children.

He lamented that parents like him, whose children are in critical examination classes, are trapped by the timing of the hike, as transferring students would affect their eligibility for upcoming external examinations.

Efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer of NINLAN, Chris Nwankwo, were unsuccessful as calls and messages to his phone went unanswered at the time of filing this report.

BPE reaffirms commitment to transparency, efficiency in service delivery

The Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) has reaffirmed its commitment to efficient and transparent service delivery through the full integration of SERVICOM principles across its operations.

Speaking at the Bureau’s 2025 SERVICOM Day Symposium in Abuja, themed ‘Reforming Responsibly Through Effective Service Delivery’, the Director General (DG), Ayodeji Gbeleyi said the agency’s progress reflects its alignment with the national ‘Mission Possible’ agenda for public service excellence.

At the event that brought together members of the National Assembly, anti-graft agencies, and other stakeholders, Gbeleyi noted that the Bureau continues to position itself as a trusted knowledge hub for investors and a driving force behind Nigeria’s economic reform under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

‘Our stakeholders, and indeed every Nigerian, look up to the Bureau to lead the economic reforms embedded in the Renewed Hope Agenda. We have positioned the Bureau as a trusted knowledge hub for investors seeking opportunities in Nigeria,’ he said.

Gbeleyi stressed that effective service delivery remains central to advancing the ease of doing business, adding that the symposium aimed to reinforce the importance of customer service in achieving the Bureau’s mandate.

According to the DG, since establishing its SERVICOM Unit in 2008, BPE has implemented measures to enhance responsiveness and efficiency, including regular customer satisfaction surveys, a Service Charter, and quarterly SERVICOM meetings.

The Bureau, he said, has also improved workplace conditions through electronic registers, CCTV installations, and upgraded reception and canteen facilities.

‘These initiatives reflect the Bureau’s unwavering commitment to upholding SERVICOM’s core values and ensuring service delivery that is efficient, transparent, and citizen-focused,’ Gbeleyi noted.

Highlighting staff training and international exposure as major drivers of service excellence, he noted, ‘In 2023, only 16 staff participated in investors’ fora.

‘That number rose to 49 in 2024, and 70 are already engaged in offshore training this year,’ adding that such capacity building equips staff with global best practices to improve professionalism and efficiency.

He urged participants to apply lessons from the symposium to strengthen service delivery within their institutions, emphasizing that every public interaction should ‘leave a delightful and enduring impression.’

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commercialisation and Privatisation, Senator Shuaibu Lau, represented by Hon. Abdulmaleek Danga, called for responsible reforms and stronger collaboration to enhance service delivery nationwide.

He described the event as ‘A vital platform for dialogue and sharing innovative ideas’ to improve efficiency and accountability in public institutions.

‘Effective service delivery is a vital component of good governance that directly impacts citizens’ lives and the nation’s economic well-being’.

Lau noted that reforms in the privatisation sector could stimulate economic growth, attract investments, and create jobs, adding, ‘By reforming responsibly together, we can not only improve service efficiency but also build public trust’.

Acting National Coordinator of SERVICOM, Anthony Oshin, also commended the Bureau for prioritizing transparency, teamwork, and citizen-centred service.

Oshin, who was represented by Ngozi Akinbodewa, the Head of Operations at SERVICOM stressed that employee experience is the new customer experience, urging the Bureau to invest in staff motivation, technology, and continuous feedback.

‘Every public asset privatized must translate into measurable national development,’ Oshin, while describing customer complaints as ‘free consultancy’ that helps institutions identify weaknesses and improve processes.

He emphasised that genuine reform depends on committed leadership and a motivated workforce, ‘When staff feel valued, they deliver better service. Treat employees as kings, and they will treat customers as kings,’ he said.

Guest speaker, Dr. Sam Ikoku and former BPE Director-General Bolanle Onagoruwa both praised the Bureau’s dedication to service excellence and transparency.

They urged the agency to sustain its reform efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s economic environment and accelerate national growth.

Breaking News: Nigerians Now Approved to Earn in Dollars from 2025

A major policy shift in 2025 has cleared the way for Nigerians to officially earn in US Dollars through approved online and digital channels. For millions of citizens seeking new ways to navigate a tough economy, this development could not have come at a better time.

While social media has been awash with all kinds of ‘dollar earning opportunities,’ many of them questionable at best, industry insiders are now pointing to one sector that has stood the test of time: premium domain names.

The Discovery of a Hidden Goldmine

During this research and investigation, we received dozens of calls from Nigerians both at home and abroad asking whether dollar earnings online were truly possible. Skepticism was common. After all, for every success story, there seemed to be five scams.

But one model kept appearing in our research: Acquiring and profiting from premium domains. At first, it sounded too good to be true. Could a single name on the internet really be worth thousands, even millions of dollars?

The answer, as global sales records confirm, is a resounding yes.

Voice.com sold for $30 million.

NFTs.com fetched $15 million.

Business.com famously went for $350 million years ago.

Chat.com was confirmed at $15.5 million just last year.

For Nigerians now allowed to earn and withdraw in US Dollars, the timing could not be more perfect. Click here to start

Bringing Global Opportunities to Local Buyers

One platform making headlines isSoftbrite, a US based company with more than 11 years of experience in helping clients secure premium domains and guiding them through a profitable resale process.

Unlike speculative platforms that sell random, low-value names, Softbrite offers curated premium and ultra-premium domains starting from $2,000 and going up to $12,000 or more. Each domain is selected for its resale potential, brandability, and demand in global markets.

From our extensive and independent research, we can confirm that domains are the internet’s real estate. Just as a property in Victoria Island or Banana Island appreciates, the right digital property gains value as businesses in tier one countries compete for it. The difference is that domains are cheaper to acquire and easier to resell globally.

Why Nigerians Should Pay Attention

Dollar Income at a Time of Naira Weakness

With the naira under constant pressure, earning in USD provides stability. Every resale completed on Softbrite is paid directly in US Dollars, giving Nigerians stronger spending power. A buyer can also specify their earning paid in Naira.

A Business AI Cannot Replace

Globally, AI is replacing jobs at an alarming rate. Tech giants have laid off thousands, while entire HR and IT roles are now automated. But one thing remains constant: every company still needs a domain name. AI cannot change that reality.

No Training, No Referrals, No Schemes

Unlike MLMs or referral programs, domain reselling doesn’t require recruitment. Nor does it need specialized training. As a potential client, you simply acquire a premium name, and Softbrite’s team in El-Paso, Texas, manages the resale until profits are realized. Click here to start

Real Proof of Profitability

Clients we spoke to confirmed that profits are not hypothetical. One Nigerian buyer reported acquiring a domain for about $2,000 and reselling it for $29,000, calling the profit ‘unbelievable.’ Another said his single domain resale brought in over $42,000, money paid directly to his account in USD.

Ejembi (Otukpo, Nigeria): ‘As a risk taker and owner of a startup, I got a premium domain for $3500, after series of negotiations with the final buyer, it was sold for $43,000 as I could not wait any longer, the entire process took 3 months and 12 days. I will acquire more before the end of the year’

Olalekan (Ontario, Canada): ‘At first, I laughed at the idea of buying names. After research, I realized companies spend millions just for a domain name, it sounded unbelievable till the domain I acquired for $4000 by end of June sold by early September for $51,350. Some businesses are truly meant for the smart, now I understand why they say the rich will always become richer. They are risk takes who take decisions without fear.’

Effiom (Lekki, Lagos): ‘I didn’t want this secret exposed, but it works. I’ve sold enough domains to fly business class with my family. That says it all.’

I also had surprising interactions with users who shared unique stories or experiences. These connections often led to engaging discussions I hadn’t anticipated. For example, one user shared their travel adventures, sparking a conversation about places I would love to visit.

Another pleasant surprise was how many users were genuinely interested in meaningful connections. Even though the platform focuses on casual encounters, many users were also seeking friendships, which broadened my perspective on what WannaHookup could offer.

>>Check out the official site for more details on safety features and verified profiles

WannaHookup attracts users from a wide range of backgrounds. Most members are between 18 and 35 years old, including college students and young professionals. While urban users are more common, the platform also has members from rural areas, adding geographic diversity.

Users generally share interests in casual dating, friendships, and hookups. Many are looking for fun without serious commitments. Understanding these demographics can help improve matchmaking. I found it interesting how location affects intentions. Urban members often prioritize convenience, while rural users may look for more meaningful connections.

Profile authenticity on WannaHookup can vary. Some users create detailed and honest profiles, while others may misrepresent themselves. Many members post pictures that reflect their real appearance, but some profiles use outdated or misleading images.

The WannaHookup platform encourages account verification to promote trust among users. Authentic profiles improve the overall experience and make interactions more genuine. I appreciate when people are upfront about their intentions, as it makes conversations smoother.

Accurate representation tends to attract like-minded individuals, while misleading profiles can lead to frustration. Honesty pays off in the long term.

WannaHookup uses multiple protocols to protect user information. They employ encryption technology, which scrambles personal data, making it unreadable to unauthorized parties.

The platform also relies on secure servers to store information and conducts regular audits to identify any system vulnerabilities. These precautions contribute significantly to user trust and safety. When users are confident that their data is protected, they feel more comfortable engaging on the site.

Data security is crucial on online dating platforms because users often share sensitive information. I value a platform that prioritizes these measures, as it provides peace of mind knowing privacy settings are reliable.

WannaHookup includes various features to ensure trust and safety. Account verification helps confirm users are genuine, while reporting tools allow members to flag suspicious or inappropriate behavior.

These features reduce risks associated with online dating. If someone feels uncomfortable, they can report the issue immediately. I find these options reassuring because they allow me to manage my experience.

Additionally, the WannaHookup platform has clear community guidelines, promoting respectful behavior and a safer environment for everyone. These measures help prevent the site from being perceived as untrustworthy.

In my experience, feeling secure is essential when using an online dating site. Knowing that safety measures are in place encourages more confident interaction with others.

Many users have shared their experiences with WannaHookup’s customer support. Response times can vary. Some members report quick replies, while others experience delays. I personally contacted support and received a response within a few hours, which impressed me.

The efficiency of customer service in resolving issues is important. Several users mentioned that representatives were knowledgeable and helped clarify questions about membership and platform features. However, some noted that more complex issues took longer to address.

Personalized responses that made users feel valued often led to positive outcomes, improving the overall experience.

Understanding how refunds work on WannaHookup is important for users. The process is generally straightforward but can sometimes be confusing. Users first submit a refund request through the website, providing account details and a reason for the refund. After submission, it may take several days to receive a reply.

Challenges can occur during this process. Some users found it difficult to locate the refund section, while others experienced long waiting periods for approval. I also encountered some uncertainty about what information was required for my request.

Overall satisfaction with refunds varies. Many WannaHookup users appreciate the clear initial instructions but express frustration over delays. A few received their refunds promptly, which boosted their trust in the service, while others felt unsure during the waiting period.

WannaHookup is a freemium platform, meaning it is free to sign up, browse profiles, and receive messages. However, to reply to others or start a conversation, you need to spend money. The platform uses a credit-based system with one-time payments and no subscriptions or automatic renewals. The available credit packages are:

1,250 credits for $39.95

2,750 credits (+ 250 free credits) for $79.95

6,500 credits (+ 500 free credits) for $159.95

17,500 credits (+ 2,500 free credits) for $399.95

Sending replies or messages costs 100 credits each, while winks cost 50 credits. Upon registration, WannaHookup provides 100 free credits, but there are no other ways to earn free credits while using the platform.

>>Sign up for free, get your initial credits, and explore the platform before committing

After three months of using WannaHookup, my satisfaction was mixed. The platform has notable strengths, including a user-friendly design and easy navigation. Many features functioned well, making it simple to connect with others quickly.

However, some areas need improvement. At times, I noticed a shortage of active users, which made finding matches more challenging. My experience did not completely meet my initial expectations, as I had hoped for more engagement and interactions.

WannaHookup excels with its straightforward interface and effective search filters. Users can quickly locate profiles that match their preferences. On the downside, customer support response times can be slow. In my experience, replies took longer than expected when I had questions about my account. Prompt support is important for users who need assistance quickly.

New users should set realistic expectations when using WannaHookup. Results may vary depending on location and user activity. Here are some practical tips to improve your experience:

Create a detailed profile: Highlight your interests and what you are looking for in a partner.

Use clear photos: High-quality images attract attention and give others a better sense of who you are.

Be proactive: Reach out to users rather than waiting for messages to arrive.

I discovered that staying active on the platform increases visibility. Engaging with others can lead to better connections. Focusing on these strategies can help users get the most out of WannaHookup.

Honesty and clarity are key when creating a profile. Misleading information may cause disappointment later, while being upfront about intentions sets the right tone from the beginning.

FG moves to revive stalled geospatial plan

The Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGOF) and the Nigeria Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC) have formed a new partnership to revive the long-delayed National Geospatial Data Infrastructure (NGDI).

The agreement was reached in Abuja during a meeting between the Surveyor General of the Federation, Surv. Abdulganiyu Adebomehin Adeyemi, and the Executive Director of NIWRMC, Engr. Abdulmumin Mohammed Zaria.

Adebomehin revealed that the OSGOF has the wealth of data and technical expertise that have not been fully used for national planning.

According to him: ‘We have hydrographic data, advanced mapping equipment and a network of Continuously Operating Reference (COR) stations across the country. This data can help predict risks and guide planning, but it needs to be integrated and shared.’

He noted that Nigeria must invest more in manpower, modern software and cloud-based storage.

‘Some data can no longer be handled by ordinary computers; they need secure cloud facilities,’ he said.

The Surveyor General stressed that reviving NGDI was critical. He revealed that for too long, Nigeria has not optimized its geospatial infrastructure.

‘All Ministries, Departments and Agencies must pool their data so we can use it to solve national problems, from flood control to mapping hospitals and schools,’ he added.

Zaria said his agency regards OSGOF as a key partner in improving water governance.

According to him, ‘water is a finite resource, and poor data sharing has made it harder to manage. OSGOF has the expertise and records that we need to regulate water use, especially in trans-boundary areas.’

He added that the new partnership would help map water infrastructure, develop geo-forensic tools for compliance, and adopt digital-twin mapping for future water planning.

Zaria said the collaboration also fits into President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, noting that the President wants agencies to stop working in silos and start cooperating.

Both agencies agreed to set up a joint technical working group and sign a formal memorandum of understanding to drive the partnership.

Officials at the meeting said pilot projects will start in selected river basins to demonstrate how shared data can improve water allocation, reduce disputes and strengthen disaster preparedness.

Pension assets rose to N26 trillion in August

Nigeria’s pension assets under the management of Pension Fund Administration (PFA) and supervision of the National Pension Commission (PenCom) has grown by N97.88 billion between July and August 2025, reaching N25.895 trillion, or about 0.38per cent month-on-month.

The total net asset value of pension funds stood at N25.895 trillion in August, up modestly from N25.797 trillion recorded in July, with pension sector demonstrating both resilience and strategic progress.

Key insights from PenCom Monthly Industry Summary August 2025 shows that while the gain signals continuity, it masks stress as Fund I and Fund II of the asset both posted declines of N10.185 billion and N8.104 billion respectively.

These figures confirm that even the more conservative portions of pension portfolios are susceptible to market volatility.

Meanwhile, dominant exposure to FGN securities, and rising allocations in infrastructure, real estate, and private equity, reflect a cautious yet diversified strategy.

Going by the report, this incremental growth of N97.9 billion signals that the system remains resilient even as macroeconomic headwinds and regulatory demands press upon it.

Moreover, the Retirement Savings Account (RSA) membership at 10,882,661 contributors seems to testify that Nigerians are embracing the scheme daily.

Yet, the report also reveals pressure points. In several fund tiers, there were negative movements in value as Fund I shrank by N10.185 billion and Fund II decreased by N8.104 billion

The August 2025 summary suggests that Nigeria’s pension industry is not collapsing-it’s adapting. The system shows resilience, but with cracks that need repair.

As we move deeper into 2025 and beyond, performance alone won’t win trust-*consistency, transparency, and accountability* will. If the industry delivers also where data is now scarce, the pension ecosystem stands to become a pillar of financial stability rather than just a safety net.

A closer look at asset class allocations showed that FGN Securities remain the backbone of pension portfolios, with holdings amounting to over N15.8 trillion across all funds.

Domestic equities holdings, while significant at N3.607 trillion), reflect careful balance.

On the other hand, Corporate debt, money market instruments, and real estate also feature meaningfully in portfolios.

Emefiele, EFCC disagree on modalities for forensic examination of WhatsApp messages

An Ikeja Special Offences Court yesterday heard that forensic examination ordered into WhatsApp messages on the phone of the former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele did not go as planned.

This was because, the examination, intended to be conducted by experts from the defence and prosecution failed to agree on modalities.

The court had during the last sitting ordered the forensic examination of a phone and WhatsApp conversations, central to the alleged $4.5 billion fraud trial against Emefiele.

During resumed proceedings yesterday, Emefiele, through his counsel, Olalekan Ojo (SAN) raised concerns over the issue before the court.

Ojo alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on two separate occasions blocked the successful execution of the court’s order.

The trial judge, Justice Rahman Oshodi, had at last sitting of the court, ruled that the mobile device, marked ‘iPhone 2,’ and its WhatsApp contents, which were tendered by the EFCC as evidence, must be subjected to a scientific, forensic examination.

The judge issued the order following an application by Emefiele’s defence team who argued for the necessity of the examination in the interest of justice.

They had also pointed out that the exercise would require the presence of experts from both sides.

Ojo told the court that on September 24 and 25, the dates ordered by the court, nothing could be accomplished despite the presence of representatives from both parties and the court’s Registrar.

‘The first brick wall we faced was that the EFCC said the device cannot be exposed to the entire team,’ Ojo said.

He said same was raised by the EFCC team on the second day.

He said in spite of clarification by the Registrar that the court directed for the examination of the phone and WhatsApp, the EFCC representatives failed to produce the phone when the Apple expert demanded for it.

He said the EFCC team gave a ‘categorical No’ to the request.

He emphasised the need for what he termed as an unfettered access for the experts to perform their duty, insisting that the EFCC’s actions had blocked the process.

Ojo urged the court to issue a fresh directive to ensure proper access to the phone and its WhatsApp content.

Responding, the counsel for the EFCC, Rotimi Oyedepo, (SAN) stated that the initial forensic examination conducted by the defence’s expert was flawed and non-compliant with forensic standards.

According to him, the expert in question had no physical laboratory, no verifiable office, and reportedly carried out parts of the examination via a live internet connection, risking data compromise.

He said: ‘the implication of their request is that Exhibit E may be altered. The data could auto-sync and change the integrity of the exhibit.’

Oyedepo confirmed that the iPhone remained in flight mode, ensuring it remains untampered with.

He assured the court of the prosecution’s commitment to transparency:

‘The prosecution has never, and will never, prevent the defence from accessing the facility. But handling of the exhibit must be done properly,’ he said.

However, in their responses, defence counsels to first and second defendant, Ojo (SAN) and Adeyinka Kotoye (SAN) urged the court to defer further testimony until the forensic analysis is completed.

They argued that the WhatsApp chats are central to their case and proceeding without the full report would be premature.

Justice Oshodi acknowledged their concerns and ruled that the prosecution must file the forensic report within 24 hours.

He allowed the continuation of the prosecution’s witness testimony, noting that the witness had travelled from Abuja for the hearing.

He also directed both parties to adopt electronic service of documents moving forward to prevent further delays.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Emefiele on 19 counts bordering on receiving gratification, corrupt practices, and abuse of office.

The co-defendant, Henry Omoile, on the other hand, is facing a separate three-count charge relating to unlawful acceptance of gifts.
