MANILA, Philippines —The Philippine National Police (PNP) will deploy more than 16,000 personnel to secure the upcoming three-day anti-corruption rallies in Manila and Quezon City from Nov. 16 to 18, assuring the public of maximum tolerance.
At least 16,433 officers from the National Capital Region Police Office and supporting units will be assigned to various rally sites, including Rizal Park, EDSA people power monument and other areas where lightning protests are expected.
Of the number, 1,400 police officers will be stationed at Ayala Bridge and another 1,100 along Recto Avenue – areas that saw unrest during a rally on Sept. 21.
“Our goal is to keep the activity peaceful, orderly and safe for everyone,” acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez said.
The PNP is coordinating with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and local government units to minimize traffic disruptions and ensure the safety of nearby communities.
Meanwhile, the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) yesterday said its three-day rally would be “condemning the enormous evil” of many corrupt government officials involved in anomalous flood control projects.
In a statement, INC spokesperson Edwil Zabala said the rally, set for Nov. 16 to 18 at the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park, would express their call for transparency, accountability, justice and peace.
He said the event aims to highlight the people’s clamor for proper and transparent investigation on anomalous flood control projects.
“This rally is not to interfere in politics, but to express our sentiment and lend the voice of the INC to the calls of many of our countrymen condemning the enormous evil involving many government officials,” Zabala said.
