Nintendo, one of the top 2 gaming company in the world, has officially started their online game store in Thailand, bringing digital games at a cheaper price to the Thai market.

With the launch of this official digital game store (also known as eShop) will bring more games with Thai language. Expats in Thailand with Thai family will be able to enjoy games even more conveniently now. The first super big game with Thai language will be Donkey Kong Bananza.

I have been playing Nintendo games for several decades, but not until last Tuesday, November 18, that I am able to download digital games in Thai currency. Moreover, nearly all the games on this Thailand Nintendo eShop are cheaper than other country’s stores at around 4-7%.

But, for now, apart from seeing the game price in Thai baht, not much has changed. I see an option to choose system language to ‘Thai/English’ but the actual interface does not switch to Thai, yet.

The downside from this is that people with Thai credit cards cannot buy digital games from other country’s stores anymore. In Nintendo’s own words: If Nintendo eShop is available for your region, credit cards issued from your region may not work in a different region’s version of Nintendo eShop. The only way to buy games from other countries’ digital stores is to use Nintendo eShop Gift Cards brought from Shopee or Lazada to buy them.

At least this is a bright start for Thai game consumers which shows that Nintendo sees Thailand as a country on their radar to focus on.
