Temperatures across Thailand’s North, Northeast, Central Plains and East will first rise and then fall this week, the Meteorological Department said on Sunday.
Director-general Sugunyanee Yavinchan said temperatures from Sunday to Tuesday would increase by 2–4°C in the Northeast and by 1–3°C in the North, Central Plains including Greater Bangkok, and the East. The rise is due to a weakening high-pressure system over upper Thailand.
“The strong high-pressure system covering upper Thailand, the upper South and the South China Sea is weakening, bringing warmer conditions and morning fog in upper Thailand. Morning cool to cold weather is still expected in the North and Northeast,” Ms Sugunyanee said.
From Wednesday to Saturday, temperatures will fall as a moderate to rather strong high-pressure system from China spreads over upper Thailand and the South China Sea.
Temperatures are expected to drop by 4–7°C in the Northeast, 3–5°C in the North, Central Plains and East, and 2–4°C in the upper South.
In the lower South, heavy to very heavy rain is likely from Sunday to Tuesday due to a low-pressure cell over the lower Andaman Sea and Malaysia, along with a rather strong northeast monsoon over the upper Gulf, upper South and Andaman Sea.
