Thamanat responds to social media fuss, for which talk show host has already apologised

The milk produced by Thai cows is 100% pure, safe and meets international nutritional standards, Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Thamanat Prompow said on Tuesday.

Responding to a controversy on social media questioning the quality and authenticity of local milk, he reassured the public that no adulteration or mixing occurs in milk produced under Thailand’s rigorous agricultural regulations.

Thamanat cited products under the Dairy Farming Promotion Organisation of Thailand (DPO) as an example, saying they are 100% pure cow’s milk and are subject to veterinary inspection at every stage, ensuring consumers receive fresh, clean and nutritious milk.

He urged the public not to be misled by misinformation suggesting Thai milk is of inferior quality.

The fuss began during a discussion about safe foods on the Woody Avengers talk show, hosted by the popular media personality Wutthithorn “Woody” Milintajinda. He subsequently issued an apology, saying, “The information provided was incomplete and inaccurate.”

He also said he planned to host another programme featuring health and veterinary experts to set the record straight about the standards of the Thai dairy industry.

Supattra Boonserm, secretary-general of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), also said that all milk products on the domestic market are regulated under strict safety and quality laws.

Somchuan Ratanamungklanon, director-general of the Department of Livestock Development (DLD), said his department closely monitors milk quality nationwide through partnerships with cooperatives, raw milk collection centres and private producers.
