The New African Charter International (NACI) has noted the ongoing political violence against non-ruling party activists at both the national and the local level, which has threatened peace and stability in Cameroon.
NACI has received information of numerous cases of lynching and intimidation of youths, opposition party supporters and their leaders, journalists as well as non-ruling party activists, following the 12th October, 2025 voting in Cameroon. These and other vices now have led to a deterioration of the general security situation in the Central African nation, and which in turn has created also fear among the general public. Peaceful, free, fair, inclusive and credible elections are the ingredients of a clean democracy, and they are guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Cameroon, we want to remind all Cameroonians.
NACI is concerned about the repeated threats of violence made by high-ranking members of the Cameroonian ruling party, and call for an end to those threats, the violence and intimidation of opposition supporters. We condemn also the decision of the ruling party to deploy heavily armed forces to unleash mayhem on Cameroonian youths whose crime is only their action to protect their votes. We urge the Cameroonian election body to immediately announce the 12th October, 2025 elections results fairly, and never to indulge in any undemocratic act that will provoke civil war in the Central African nation.
For the sake of peace and stability, NACI urgently implores the Cameroonian authorities to do a noble service to their people, and to end the violence against opponents. We call the United Nations, African Union and all relative stakeholders to immediately confront the deep-seated roots of the more than four decades-long of President Paul Biya’s corruption and dictatorship rule.
The path towards a peaceful transfer of power in Cameroon is to respect the will of the Cameroonian people, who have been yearning for change. We call on the Cameroonian security to protect the people and not thieves and oppressors, and to do everything to bring an end to the horrors of injustice, oppression, political gangsterism and sit-tight dictatorship. It is incumbent upon the Cameroonian security forces to foster a pathway towards a truly peaceful transfer of power to the leaders chosen by the people.
With regard to the escalating violence against members of the Cameroonian opposition, reports reaching NACI suggest that in most cases, neither the perpetrators have been brought to justice in accordance with the laws nor have there been necessary actions taken by the authorities in order to stop the violence against the Cameroonian people. NACI is an advocacy group and as such pledges its unflinching solidarity to the people of Cameroon as they mobilize to protect their votes cast during the 12th October, 2025 elections.
It is the view of NACI that any attempts to truncate the will of the people of Cameroon as expressed in the October 2025 election will bring the entire electoral process into disrepute, and this will not augur well for Africa. This in turn could erode the freedom of the Cameroonian people and their trust in democracy. We call on the authorities to release all detainees, party supporters and their leaders, and never yield to any call for the arrest of the opposition leader-Issa Tchiroma Bakary.
Stop the Political Intimidation!
Stop the Attacks!
Foster a Just and Peaceful transfer of power in Cameroon!
