BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-President Peter Mutharika’s has fired Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Chief Executive Officer Kamkwamba Kumwenda amid public discontent over persistent blackouts.
Kumwenda has therefore been to the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS).
Chief Secretary Justin Saidi letter made available The Maravi Post justifies the decision saying the move is due to an urgent demand of the service.
Kumwenda will now serve as a lecturer at the university.
According to the letter, Kumwenda will remain an employee of ESCOM during this period and will continue to receive his full salary and benefits.
Malawians have been subjected to persistent blackouts prior to September 16, 2025 General Elections that witnessed Lazarus Chakwera losing grip of power to former Malawi leader Peter Mutharika.
