LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda, the former Attorney General of Malawi, has been suspended from his position at the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), where he served as Director of Legal Services before being seconded to the AG’s office.
The reasons behind the suspension are yet to be disclosed.
According to information gathered by Maravipost, Chakaka Nyirenda was seconded from the RBM to serve as AG, a position he held until a few weeks ago.
As AG, Chakaka Nyirenda was involved in several high-profile cases, including the termination of a multi-billion kwacha contract with Techno Brain Global FZE for the upgrade of the passport issuance system and introduction of an E-passport.
The suspension comes amid ongoing efforts to address governance and corruption issues in Malawi’s public sector.
Maravipost understands that the suspension is part of a broader effort to strengthen accountability and transparency within government institutions.
Chakaka Nyirenda’s tenure as AG was marked by several key decisions, including the termination of the Techno Brain contract, which was deemed to be irregular.
His suspension from the RBM is likely to raise questions about the circumstances surrounding his departure from the AG’s office.
More details are expected to emerge as the story unfolds.
The Maravi Post will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
