BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Parliament is another arm of government under legislation whose leadership is key in shaping oversight roles in all aspects of governance.
Following September 16, General elections, has witnessed many lawmakers failing to retain seats in their constituencies.
Big shots have fallen in the last elections including Bright Msaka, Atupele Muluzi, Nicholas Dausi, Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, Abida Mia, Alfred Jiya, Jessie Kabwila, Khumbize Kandodo, Madalitso Kazombo, Ken Kandodo, Peter Mukhitho and others.
There are a number of reasons why many failed to secure seats despite enough resources used.
Many failed to meet constituents expectations both in Malawi Parliament and out.
There as days are closer to elect Parliament leadership, members must put in place trusted, credible and integrity personnel for great out.
This article is analyzing two members who are vying for the Speakership
We are comparing Peter Dimba and Sameer Suleman
- Peter Dimba is Malawi Congress Party (MCP) candidate for the position of speaker is the graduate from the Malawi Polytechnic.
- He has been a chair of legal affairs committee of Parliament for three parliamentary cohort before he was appointed as a cabinet minister.
- He has been also in leadership position since his college days.He is level headed,calm,composed,mature ,thoughtful and calculative.
Sameer Suleman
The candidate for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) position for the speaker Hon Sameer Suleman was kicked out of Football Association of Malawi because he doesn’t have Malawi School Certificate of Education.
He has questionable and unpredictable and behaviour with swing moods.
Suleman was usually suspended from the Pariament because of the unbecoming behaviour ,which includes fighting other legislators in the chamber infront of the cameras.
The choice is up to the members of Parliament to make the house by choosing Dimba or turn the house into dishonorable and anarchy by electing Suleman on September 29.
It is not a fight for a political power in 224 strong house between the DPP and the MCP ,but it is a matter of bringing dignity to the house and make Malawi greater again.
