The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the death of a Filipino national who succumbed to hypothermia while trekking the Northern Japan Alps on Oct. 12.
In a statement issued Friday night, the DFA said the Filipino national was in a group with six other Filipino mountaineers.
The DFA said the Philippine consulate general in Nagoya is working closely with Japanese authorities, the family of the deceased and all concerned parties to ensure the proper documentation and transfer of remains.
It noted that two other Filipino mountaineers in the group who suffered trauma have received medical attention. One was discharged, while the other is expected to be discharged by next week.
‘The Department will continue to extend assistance to the Filipino mountaineers and their families,’ the DFA said, without releasing names and other details.
