Latifah Nakasi scored twice in the first half as Kawempe Muslim beat She Corporate 2-0 to move top of the Finance Trust Bank Fufa Women Super League (FTBFWSL) on Sunday.
She Corporate, before the match, were the FWSL’s best defence but have also always had leftback Cissy Nakate venturing forward.
Kawempe read that and worked to stretch them with wingers Asia Nakibuuka and Jovia Nakagolo.
In the second minute, Nakagolo ran into the space vacated by Nakate, crossed the ball to Nakibuuka, who headed it into Nakasi’s path for the opener.
Twenty minutes later, Nakagolo made a similar run and found the official player of the match Nakasi to score from point blank range.
“The most important thing was to win against a team that is close to us on the table, but even after the goals, our opponents stayed in the game,” Kawempe coach Ayub Khalifa said.
“That required us to defend better from around the 65th or 70th minute and we did. The nature of the pitch is also different from where we train from, so we had to endure the fatigue that comes with it,” Khalifa said as they moved to 16 points – three ahead of She Corporate.
