President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, welcomed on Thursday morning in Kyiv the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, who is paying a working visit to the Ukrainian capital, in the framework of preparations in view of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU during the first half of 2026. The two leaders will have a tete-a-tete meeting to be followed by expanded talks between delegations of the two countries.
Government Spokesman, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, who participates in the Cypriot delegation, stressed in a post on X, that “during a deeply symbolic visit, Cyprus expresses tangibly its full solidarity with the Ukrainian people and signals a message of firm commitment to the unequivocal principles of sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of each state.”
“Our peoples are unfortunately aware of the tragic consequences of the invasion and occupation, the questioning of freedom and territorial integrity. Our stance is not only a position of principle, is it deeply rooted to our personal experience and the continuous struggle for justice and restoration of our rights. This constitutes our support genuine, tangible and politically consistent,” he added.
Letymbiotis also said that “Cyprus supports every sincere diplomatic effort that can lead to just and sustainable peace, fully in line with the International Law and the UN Charter, always in coordination with our European and international partners.”
“Enlargement will be a basic priority, in the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026, with Ukraine’ course towards the European family being high on our agenda and its progress being a goal which we will support with consistency,” he noted.
