?icosia hosts on Tuesday informal high level meeting ahead of EU Presidency

An informal high-level meeting of Permanent Secretaries, SG’s and Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of EU countries is taking place in Nicosia on Tuesday, in view of the Cyprus EU Presidency which begins on January 1st, 2026.

A press release issued by the Secretariat of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU said that delegations were given a tour of the Leventis Gallery in Nicosia on Monday afternoon, while the meeting will begin on Tuesday morning at Nicosia City Hall.

The priorities of the Cyprus Presidency will be presented, followed by a discussion on the topic ‘Addressing opportunities and challenges for the European Union, in the current geopolitical environment, in its borders and beyond’. A second discussion is set titled ‘Cooperation between the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the Member States: Joint efforts in managing geopolitical challenges’.

After the meeting the delegations will be given a tour of the old city of Nicosia.
