The Department of Antiquities announced on Tuesday the repatriation of two Cypriot antiquities from the United States of America.
As stated, in November 2025, the two Cypriot antiquities were delivered to the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Washington DC, both of which had been identified in online auctions by Archaeological Officers of the Department of Antiquities responsible for monitoring the illegal trafficking of Cypriot antiquities on the internet and were withdrawn following consultation with the auction houses.
According to the Department, the items in question consist of a Juglet and a Jug of Bichrome III ware that date to the Cypro-Geometric III period (900-750 BC).
In closing, the Department of Antiquities expresses its gratitude to the auction house Brunk Auctions and to Nadeau’s Auction Gallery Inc. for their voluntary return of the antiquities to their country of origin, as well as to the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Washington DC for their cooperation and the coordination of the repatriation procedures.
