Parliament yesterday defeated the no-confidence motion against Justice and National Integration Minister Harshana Nanayakkara by a majority of 116 votes.
A total of 152 MPs voted against the motion, while 36 voted in favour. There were no abstentions.
The Opposition moved the no-confidence motion following the unrest at Negombo Prison on July 5 and 6, during which clashes left prison officers and inmates dead and several others seriously injured.
