IB nabs Vietnamese fugitive

Immigration police have arrested a Vietnamese man wanted on drug charges in his home country after locating him at a house in Bangkok’s Min Buri district.

The suspect, identified only as Viett, 41, was detained on Friday by investigators from the Immigration Bureau (IB)’s Investigation Division after receiving intelligence that he was hiding in the Rom Klao area.

The arrest followed a request from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board to revoke his visa after Vietnamese authorities issued a warrant for his arrest in a narcotics case.

Police confirmed the suspect was wanted by Vietnam’s Counter Narcotics Police Department and was prohibited from remaining in Thailand under Section 12(7) of the Immigration Act.

He was taken to the IB’s Investigation Division, where officers formally revoked his permission to stay in the kingdom before further legal proceedings.
