Police have seized 226,720 counterfeit Nescafe, Ovaltine and Downy products worth 2.63 million baht after raiding two sites and arresting four suspects.
The Central Investigation Bureau’s Economic Crime Suppression Division, working with the Department of Intellectual Property, said on Thursday it had dismantled an alleged counterfeit production network operating from a warehouse in Saraburi and a house in Bangkok’s Thung Kru district.
The investigation began after complaints that fake Nescafe coffee, Ovaltine cocoa and Downy fabric softener were being sold at unusually low wholesale prices. After obtaining court warrants, officers conducted simultaneous raids and arrested four men aged 40 to 59 who allegedly confessed.
The haul included 168,588 fake product sachets, 119 sacks of coffee, cocoa, milk powder, sugar and creamer, and more than 55,000 counterfeit packages bearing the three brands’ trademarks.
Officers also confiscated filling, mixing, sealing and printing machines believed to have been used to manufacture the fake goods.
The suspects were charged with counterfeiting registered trademarks, possessing counterfeit goods for sale and using another company’s trademarks to deceive consumers.
