Neighbours swap citizens

Authorities on Friday repatriated 36 Thai nationals from Cambodia and returned 67 Cambodian nationals through the Klong Luek border checkpoint.

The exchange was carried out under bilateral legal and humanitarian cooperation by the Burapha Task Force, immigration, customs, border patrol and other agencies at the Thai-Cambodian Friendship Bridge.

The 67 Cambodians comprised 43 men, 21 women and three boys. All had completed legal proceedings and served their sentences in Thailand before being returned.

The 36 Thais had also completed legal proceedings in Cambodia. On arrival, they underwent background checks to determine whether they had links to transnational crime. If evidence links any returnees to criminal networks, they will face prosecution, authorities said.
