Globacom intensifies network investment with fiber, AI push

Globacom has intensified investments in network infrastructure and digital services, unveiling a series of upgrades aimed at improving customer experience as the telecommunications company prepares to celebrate its 23rd anniversary this month.

The initiatives include the deployment of thousands of new 4G LTE sites, expansion of fibre infrastructure, upgrades to its core network and the introduction of new digital solutions designed to improve service quality and support the growing demand for voice and data services across the country.

The company said the investments form part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening network capacity and delivering a more reliable experience for subscribers.

Among the new initiatives is Gloria, an artificial intelligence-powered voice assistant integrated into the Glo Café platform.

The multilingual assistant is designed to help customers resolve service-related enquiries, navigate self-service options and access support more efficiently.

The introduction reflects the increasing role of artificial intelligence in customer engagement as telecommunications companies continue to digitise customer service operations.

Globacom also highlighted improvements to its customer offerings through enhanced data propositions and expanded digital services, including updates to its M

more data more value packages and borrow me credit platform.

While these products are already part of the company’s service portfolio, the renewed focus forms part of a broader strategy to improve customer satisfaction as data consumption continues to grow across Nigeria.

The network expansion comes at a time when demand for reliable connectivity continues to rise. According to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigeria recorded more than 120 million broadband subscriptions and over 1.41 million terabytes of internet consumption in April 2026, reflecting increasing reliance on mobile broadband for business, education, financial services and entertainment.

The trend has placed greater pressure on operators to expand network capacity while improving service quality.

Industry investment has become increasingly important as customer expectations evolve beyond basic voice services. Subscribers now demand faster internet speeds, wider coverage, lower latency and seamless digital experiences, making continuous infrastructure development one of the key measures of competitiveness within the telecommunications sector.

For Globacom, the latest investments signal a forward-looking approach as it enters its 24th year of operations. Rather than focusing solely on its anniversary, the company is using the milestone to reinforce its long-term commitment to network quality, digital innovation and improved customer experience.

As Glo celebrates 23 years of operations and Nigeria prepares to mark its 66th Independence anniversary, the network expansion reflects a shared story of progress and connectivity. It underscores the importance of sustained investment in digital infrastructure, not only to improve telecommunications services but also to support the country’s broader economic and technological development in the years ahead.
