Former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants and other aggrieved members in Kwara State under the aegis of Otoge Progressives (TOP) have formed a coalition to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections.
The group, however, said it would remain in the APC while working with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to seek a change of government in Kwara State.
The members made their position known at a stakeholders’ rally in Ilorin, the state capital.
The TOP comprises former APC governors, National Assembly aspirants, political leaders and party elders.
Addressing the stakeholders, Chairman of the APC Elders’ Caucus, Chief James Ayeni, said the group had resolved to work with another party to achieve a change of government in the state.
‘We are still members of the APC. We are only working with another party to have a change of government. We definitely need a change of government.
‘It’s quite unfortunate. We had thought we would make a big difference among the people when we had the Otoge revolution in 2019. So, with what’s happening, it’s necessary that we have a change of government in the state now.
‘Government is not for one person. It’s not a company where you have an overall boss. It’s a contribution of everyone that makes a government. We can’t make you a leader and think you can do whatever you want on your own,’ he said.
Also speaking, Kwara Central Senator Salihu Mustapha said the 2027 elections would provide an opportunity to reset the state’s political landscape.
He urged his supporters and other stakeholders to vote for Tinubu and candidates backed by the coalition.
He said, ‘We should use the next elections to reset the political landscape of the state. We should all be ready to vote wisely, and all guide our votes during the election.
‘We are here today to thank all of you for your dedication and support. Our philanthropy over the years will speak for us at the polls.’
A former governorship aspirant, Senator Yahaya Oloriegbe, said the people needed an approachable representative in the National Assembly who would attract development and improve their welfare.
