The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said the 40 Filipino crew members of the Panama-flagged bulk carrier First Margaux were unhurt after their ship collided with the China-registered fishing vessel Lu Qing Yuan Yu.
The incident happened September 17, 2026 at the Singapore Strait and is now being investigated by Singaporean authorities.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said the Lu Qing Yuan Yu took on water, but it remained afloat after the collision incident.
In an interview with reporters last Thursday, DMW Secretary Hans J. Cacdac said they have identified the 40 Filipino sailors of First Margaux.
‘Rest assured we have identified all the 40 Filipino seafarers by name and that we are reaching out to all of their families as we confirm their status,’ he said.
As of press time, Cacdac said they have yet to receive any report from the manning agency of the said sailors they were hurt from the incident.
He said they will provide the necessary aid to the affected sailors.
‘Of course rest assured because of the instructions of the President, we are reaching out to the families and we will assist them. Of course our number one priority is to bring them home,’ Cacdac said.
