Dar es Salaam RC gives Kariakoo traders October 24 deadline to clear roads

Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila has given traders operating on Kariakoo roads until October 24, 2026 to remove tables and goods and reopen the roads, saying the spaces must remain accessible to motorists, residents and emergency services. Mr Chalamila said in the city in Saturday, October 3, 2026, that the directive did not amount to a ban on trading, but was aimed at ensuring business activities were conducted without obstructing roads or compromising safety. ‘Remove the tables and open the roads,’ he said, stressing that fire engines and ambulances must be able to reach buildings without obstruction.
