President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. remembered the late Quirino Governor Dakila Carlo ‘Dax’ Cua, who recently died of lung cancer, as a reliable colleague, friend, and public servant, extending his condolences to the local official’s bereaved family.
In a social media post last Thursday, the Chief Executive lamented the passing of Cua, 48, last week after being diagnosed with cancer in 2024.
He said the local official has helped many people, when he served as Quirino’s governor and representative at the House of Representatives.
Cua became vice governor of Quirino in 2001 until 2007 and later governor of the province.
After serving as Quirino’s Lone District Representative from 2010 to 2019 he returned to Quirino as its governor until he died on 15 September 2026.
‘Dax devoted 25 years of his life to public service, but his legacy will always be closest to home, in Quirino, in the communities he helped build and in the lives he made better,’ Marcos said.
‘Let us only hope that we can live up to the legacy that he has left for us,’ he added.
The President together with Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative and House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander ‘Sandro’ Marcos, his son, attended the wake of Cua at the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City last Wednesday.
They were also accompanied by Executive Secretary Ralph G. Recto, Department of Education Secretary Juan ‘Sonny’ Angara, Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rexlon ‘Rex’ T. Gatchalian, Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu P. Laurel Jr., and Department of Budget and Management Secretary Kim Robert C. De Leon.
Marcos expressed his condolences to Cua’s loved ones.
‘To his wife, Midy, and his parents, Junie and Angela, my deepest condolences. And to his three children, whom I had the chance to meet, I am so sorry about your dad,’ he said.
