European Parliament study points to limited use of circular economy funding in Cyprus

Cyprus shows limited use of Cohesion Policy funds earmarked for the circular economy, according to a European Parliament study published on Friday.

The study, entitled ‘Circular Economy and Cohesion Policy Funds’, was prepared at the request of the European Parliament’s Committee on Regional Development (REGI) and examines funding, implementation progress and the geographical distribution of circular economy investments under Cohesion Policy.

According to the study, Cyprus, Croatia and Spain show ‘very limited financial mobilisation’, based on commitment and expenditure rates for programmed circular economy resources. By contrast, the Netherlands, Czechia, Finland, Austria and Belgium show comparatively higher commitment and expenditure rates.

As regards the focus of interventions, Cyprus is included, together with Hungary, Latvia, Malta and Romania, among countries with centrally organised systems in which support is focused mainly on environmental infrastructure.
