’I have not joined APC’ – Tinubu campaign official Segun Showunmi

Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Segun Showunmi has denied defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), despite serving on President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 campaign council.

Showunmi made the clarification during an interview on TVC News’ Beyond The Headlines on Monday.

‘No, no, no. I have not joined the APC. Don’t get that twisted,’ he declared.

The politician explained that his decision to support Tinubu’s re-election did not amount to abandoning his political party.

He said his immediate priority was the 2027 presidential election, adding that decisions concerning Ogun State politics would come afterwards.

Showunmi also acknowledged his admiration for Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, and his close relationship with PDP governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu.

He said those relationships would influence discussions about political alignments in the state.

‘Power must be negotiated at the state level,’ he said.

‘We are supporting the president. We are able to support him. All of us are supporting the president. When we get home, we’ll look at the power-sharing mechanism and take decisions that are power-reaching,’ he added.

Showunmi’s clarification comes after his appointment to the Media and Strategic Communication Directorate of Tinubu’s APC Presidential Campaign Council.

His name appeared on the council’s revised membership list released on October 13, 2026.

Interestingly, Showunmi had stated in a June 2025 interview that he would leave the PDP and join Tinubu’s party if he decided to support the President’s re-election.

He has now maintained that supporting Tinubu does not mean he has joined the APC.
